Always upset that #6 is “quiche” and not “pie” which is obviously the broader category

Tagger@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 309d (13 replies)

But a pie should have a lid. If anything #7 should be pie rather than calzome.

youCanCallMeDragon@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 309d (6 replies)

The lid is optional (pizza pie, pumpkin pie, quiche) I will die on this hill

grue@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 309d (1 reply)

I feel like there are more kinds of pies without lids than ones with them anyway.

UnculturedSwine@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 308d

But then that would make a covered pie a calzone! And a hot dog a taco! And soup a salad! And an omelette a salad! And ice cream a sala- wait... I think this system is growing on me...

defaultusername@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 309d

What a splendid pie. Pizza pizza pie.

brotundspiele@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 308d

Could y'all please stop dieing on hills all the time?! I love hiking, but all the corpses are really disturbing.

merc@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 309d

And even with a lid, it isn't quite #7.

#7 is for things where there's basically no distinction between the top and bottom. Even pies with a crust on top has a distinct "top" side, whereas the sides and bottoms are all pie crust.

#7 is for calzones, corn dogs, burritos, dumplings, pot stickers, ravioli, etc.

NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone · 0 pts · 309d

None of those are pies. That’s not even heresy, just wrongness.

ChicoSuave@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 309d (1 reply)

A closed top pie form is called a galette.

The open top form is pie.

trolololol@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 309d

You got the galette backwards

makyo@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 309d (1 reply)

Pies with lids are calzones

RisingSwell@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 309d

So most pies are calzones? Because most pies have lids.

Kanda@reddthat.com · 1 pts · 308d (1 reply)

This means that a calzone is a pie or that a pie is a calzone

OneWomanCreamTeam@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 307d

Calzone is a pie.

dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net · 8 pts · 309d (1 reply)

A slice of apple pie is a taco. A slice of pumpkin pie is toast. A whole apple pie is a calzone, a whole pumpkin pie is a quiche. See how silly you sound?

(/s, the whole thing is clearly silly)

youCanCallMeDragon@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 309d

My therapist will be hearing about this

brap@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 309d (1 reply)

But quiche is even more fucking delicious.

MacNCheezus@lemmy.today · 3 pts · 309d

I mean, it’s basically an egg pie with cheese and/or bacon, how could it not be delicious?

TheGiantKorean@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 309d

Calling a pie a quiche would upset more people. Thus quiche.

usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 309d

I think a pie should have an upper crust, so it's more of a tart. Of course, tons of common food names break this convention so maybe quiche is fine anyways

MacNCheezus@lemmy.today · 18 pts · 309d

Walks in with a burrito

“Behold, a Calzone”

Walks in with a hot dog

“Behold, a taco”

Walks in with an enchilada

“Behold, sushi”

infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net · 15 pts · 309d (2 replies)

Fool! That isn't a cake!

It's a lasagna.

Glytch@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 309d (1 reply)

Lasagna is pasta cake

Isn’t McDonald’s bread legally cake due to its sugar content?

grue@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 309d

That court ruling was about Subway's bread, but I don't doubt McDonald's is similar.

AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 309d (1 reply)

If you're going to bring lawyers into this, we'll never see the end of it.

_stranger_@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 309d

we've never been so close

otp@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 309d

The "sushi" should be "burrito". That's just one type of sushi, because what I picture when I hear "sushi" would probably be in the "toast" category (if rice counts as the "bread")

Gullible@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 309d (2 replies)

I’m confused by the salad. Shouldn’t it be dozens of layers? I’m unfamiliar with whatever this meme’s progenitor was

ButteryMonkey@piefed.social · 7 pts · 309d

This is what it comes from, and this meme is a poor cut of the rules and logic, probably for space reasons.

A salad with croutons is nachos.

https://cuberule.com/

makyo@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 309d

The layers have to be starches, but if you have croutons then chaos

stupidcasey@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 309d

And? Subway's has to classify it's bread as cake because it's too sweet.

VicksVaporBBQrub@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 309d (4 replies)

Italian salad.

ryedaft@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 309d (3 replies)

No, that's a "torst" whatever the fuck that is. You have a bottom of carb and no sides or top.

MimicJar@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 309d (1 reply)

What if I put the meatballs down first and then top it with spaghetti?

ryedaft@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 309d

Upside-down torst

mr_timns@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 309d

“Toast”

henfredemars@infosec.pub · 5 pts · 309d

Back in my day they used to charge by the pixel.

blockheadjt@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 309d (3 replies)

A quiche is a kind of pie. So that item should be the pie category, not the quiche category

Wolf314159@startrek.website · 1 pts · 309d

Pie is just a sweet quiche with fewer eggs.

NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 309d

Nope, it’s missing a lid.

MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 309d

A cuiche is a casserole in a dough.

JeSuisUnHombre@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 309d

::: spoiler Salad :::

mad_lentil@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 308d

Casserole is a salad eh? I kinda dig it

panda_abyss@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 309d (2 replies)

This is missing several configurations.

Like two open and adjacent faces like a shawarma, or the inverse of two filled adjacent faces, which is a folded pizza slice

ptu@sopuli.xyz · 2 pts · 309d (1 reply)

Shawarma is a type of sushi and a folded pizza is taco

panda_abyss@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 309d

No, folded NY style pizza has one crease

Shawarma is mostly covered except where the toppings are exposed

Blackmist@feddit.uk · 2 pts · 308d

A sausage roll is now sushi.

grue@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 309d

Yep, that's right. What's your point?

NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone · 1 pts · 309d (1 reply)

The one labelled “calzone” is pie, as it has a base, sides and a lid. A calzone is just a pizza folded over, which by this designation system makes it toast.

RisingSwell@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 8 pts · 309d

Folded over clearly makes it a taco

It's missing a wrap, which would be only the front wall open.

_core@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 309d

I've started so many fights with this 😁
