Not sure why this is someone "famous". He clearly needs help with serious mental health issues. I'm always surprised to hear that he has such a big followers base.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Twitch is a demented world I'm glad I was never a part of.

rigatti@lemmy.world · 62 pts · 307d

Honestly it's fine if you're watching smaller streamers. The huge ones is where it gets weird.

Twitch tryna compete with kick.com by pushing degenerates

burntbacon@discuss.tchncs.de · 8 pts · 307d

Maybe make that kick.com a link to how bad shit really was.

Tollana1234567@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 307d

twitch is the mainstream version of kick, kick is where all the degens go if they cant make it on twitch. twitch needs to enforce a games only content. because alot of the twitch streamers are switching to grifting off politics.

Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 307d

I was never a watcher of any Twitch things until I found Brutalmoose, whose retro/oldschool tendencies and relaxed demeanor made him a very lovely person to put on in the background of my partner and myself working. Otherwise, I know next to nothing of the popular peeps other than they seem to like shouting and being part of drama, both of which are a huge turnoff to me.

Tollana1234567@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 307d

right now is the hasan incident, dont you people know hes using the dog incident to distract from his political mishaps fro being called out.

We’re living in an age where entertainers mirror their audience. They aren’t about escape from reality or ideals to dream of. They are about wallowing in reality. They excuse the sorry condition their audience is in. Frankly, I think they occupy a brain space that used to be occupied by having friends. We have all had stupid friends we sit around and do stupid shit with, right? Well, not anymore. Now you just watch this idiot on your phone. It’s depressing as hell.

axx@slrpnk.net · 1 pts · 306d

This is depressingly accurate.

IronBird@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 307d (5 replies)

because, we are so overwhelmed with obvious fake bullshit 24/7, that anything "real" is a breath of fresh air.

Asmongold is some random hoarder whose claim to fame is playing fucking WoW, he also used his newfound status to take care of his ailing mother and now father.

this is why more people tune in to watch any given asmongold stream than they do fucking...jimmy kimmel, who only has a show because he knew someone and they couldnt find anyone else with less edge.

it's like...the truman show in way

funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works · 8 pts · 307d (2 replies)

Not that I'm a huge Kimmel fan but the man worked his way up in broadcasting from college radio station and being a radio host through the 80s and 90s before getting a TV show. I wouldn't call ~25 years of work before landing a TV host gig "just knowing someone"

GladiusB@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 307d (2 replies)

He was a huge WOW player and on his decline he hopped to FFXIV. Now I was a FFXIV player for years and loved the recognition. So his followers just ballooned because he hired a hit squad and went after the harder stuff in end game. He left that game but kept the followers. He was funny at times. But I can see why his popularity grew within video games. He's a solid streamer on that front.

Flames5123@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 307d (1 reply)

I watched him for a bit when he hopped on FFXIV, but then he had some misogynistic takes that made me see how awful he really was.

VerilyFemme@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 61 pts · 307d (10 replies)

Yeah that tracks.

All you need to know about Asmongold is there's a video of him on-stream trying water for the first time ever.

He gagged when he drank it.

Then he "watered it down" with soda.

Actually, that's not all you need to know.

Deathray5@lemmynsfw.com · 20 pts · 307d (1 reply)

givesomefucks@lemmy.world · 50 pts · 307d (6 replies)

Sure enough, he ended up finding a dead rat. Unsurprising, considering he previously used a dead rat as an “alarm clock” because the sun would begin cooking the corpse, causing it to smell, and the stench would wake him up.

This guy is a disgusting piece of shit...

That being said, skin does have a "horny layer" that we scrub off:

The stratum corneum (Latin for 'horned/horny layer') is the outermost layer of the epidermis of the skin. Consisting of dead tissue, it protects underlying tissue from infection, dehydration, chemicals, and mechanical stress. It is composed of 15 to 20 layers of flattened cells with no nuclei or cell organelles.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratum_corneum

Scrub that off with abrasive scrubs full of chemicals and you exposure a "fresh" layer that looks good and healthy, but doesn't offer the same protection. Which can lead to issues like acne or even skin cancer.

You still need to shower though, and not use a fucking dead rat as a smell alarm clock...

But there's almost always a small seed of truth they build the crazy off of. Like how every pearl starts as a tiny piece of sand.

meejle@lemmy.world · 25 pts · 307d

I don't think his layers will be making anyone horny

ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world · 50 pts · 307d (19 replies)

He's an entitled man-child YouTuber who gained some popularity as an mouthy asshat playing World of Warcraft back in the day. And since then he's convinced himself that because he has a following he must be a gifted genius. And apparently that has translated into him not showering for reasons.

In short, as you already knew and implied, he's less than nothing special.

ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 307d (14 replies)

I think he moved on to other games eventually. He has a fairly high subscriber count on places like Twitch and YouTube. So in some sense he is relatively famous. But he seems to think that that makes him important or that his shitry opinions matter. When he isn't, and they don't.

I mean... that might be the only redeeming thing about him. Money didn't change him. Unfortunately, that mean's he's still gross lol

Donkter@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 307d

Only some of its entitlement. The man is clearly either extremely traumatized and depressed or showing signs of more serious mental issues like schizophrenia.

As we have seen time and time again. In our world money acts as a very good mask for mental issues, but he would be having the same issues if he didn't luck into streaming, he would just be in a much much worse situation.

Or possibly he would have gotten help if he had had to rely on family and friends who might have convinced him to seek help sooner.

rozodru@piefed.social · 28 pts · 306d (5 replies)

the guy lost his mother due to their hoarding, hygiene, and health issues. the guy recently also lost his father to health issues/cancer. You'd think it would be a wake up call for him to start getting his shit together but it won't.

I guarantee you he's going to get health issues because of his teeth. His gums have rotted away and routinely bleed (he wipes the blood from his gums on his bedroom wall btw). His home is infested with rats, cockroaches and god knows what else that I'm honestly surprised he hasn't been bitten by a rat yet while he's sleeping. The guy is so repulsed by water that I'm surprised he doesn't have rabies. He can't even drink it because he finds it gross. He won't eat any fruit and vegetables for the same reason, they're gross.

All he eats is junk food and fast food and he's as thin as a rake. his gums are rotted. I'd be curious to know what his index and middle fingers look like at this point...
