Work should appreciate I do the dodgy and work form my own computer when I work from home. My work laptop was borked with needing to login to bitlocker this morning, second day in a row. I would have missed my 9am meeting if I was only set up on the laptop.

The tradeoff is I may slip in a sneaky round of Nightreign at lunch but these are the deals we need to make

MeanElevator@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 308d

omg omg, first thought went to the singing frog ( not Al Jolson )

and a few years back I got a deutsche grammaphone historishe record of 1920s music

and it had the singer and song the frog was based on!

there is just so much culture and so much depth to it that I just don't know

Alamutjones@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 308d

I knew you would get this reference. We have similar musical habits

Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 308d (3 replies)

Sent the police check to employer.

It had my old name on it as well so I explained that I changed it due to having issues landing interviews in corporate in the past.

Let's see what happens.

Catfish@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 308d

Yeah, I'd err on not explaining unless asked. (Equally got really upset at being asked why for mortgage docs)

CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone · 7 pts · 308d

Employers just wanna be able to pronounce your name. Do want you gotta do to get that job. ๐Ÿคž

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 308d

My father changed his traditional European first name to fit in socially as people had trouble pronouncing it. It used to be very common to change names in Australia. Just say it's easier.

Saying it was to get a job implies employers are racist and might be deemed as you insulting them or blaming others. ( yes, many ARE racist and it's been proven HR often rejects based on name but they might get a bit upset if you point it out )

My first time trying the Christmas ginger beer from Bundaberg... and what a nice drop it is. Enough cinnamon to make its presence know but not enough to overwhelm the delicious gingery goodness.

Aldi in the city has quite a few 4-packs right now, I think you can check the app to see if it's in stock at your local.

Wednesday Trivia at Moon Dog Beach Club goes hard. Or maybe it was because it was a horror movie themed night? Either way, it was a very fun night!

Sounds awesome. :)

( Mr Seagoon would ace that. Me, not so much. )

It's only his Real Name if he wants it to be. I changed mine because I loathed the thing my parents picked. Boyo has a legal he hates that I feel really weird using, alas paperwork requires declarations of all priors so there is no real escape.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 5 pts · 308d

Name changes when you move country is not just about negating possible racism.

There are language differences and abilities to pronounce a name.

It's also about leaving behind the past and starting anew.

I feel it's up to the individual and will respect what they choose.

Seagoon_@aussie.zone · 6 pts · 308d (1 reply)

Finished Slow Horses Season 5. Life is so empty right now.

Giving 'The Chair Company' a crack. It's odd but intriguing.

::: spoiler Cat medical, cancer mention Melbcat is getting the Aldara cream for her nose and lip today. Iโ€™m worried about the soreness and irritation itโ€™s going to do to her skin. Apparently it can be brutal. But this is treatment to stop the actinic keratosis cells turning cancerous and spreading.

:::

Wear your sunscreen folks. Donโ€™t forget your ears, the part of your hair, and your lips.

Edit: Obviously look out for your pets with white or hairless noses and ears too

StudChud@aussie.zone · 4 pts · 308d

Aw yeee Hell House LLC Lineage came out on Shudder today! I binged the series the other week in preparation lol!

First one that isn't in found footage format, but it isn't bad!

Edit: there's totally gonna be a sixth film, they left this one on a cliffhanger lol! I love these films, they're just good, clean ghost/haunted hotel films. Nothing fancy or groundbreaking, but also no gore or over the top violence; just jumpscares and creepiness and a strange meandering story that seems to change depending on the film ๐Ÿ˜‚ I recommend the series for Halloween, and would rate it pg13 with parental guidance for under 15s I think

RustyRaven@aussie.zone · 3 pts · 308d

Front yard has been mown (I did the back yesterday). It was a touch windier today, I had to swap out my broad-brimmed straw hat to my wind-resistant felt version. It provides less sun coverage but does stay on my head.

I have determined that the grass clippings from a full cut of front & back yard is enough to cover nearly half the edges of the back garden beds with a weed-suppression border layer. Hopefully that in combination with going around the grass edges with the edger to cut back any runner grasses will keep most of the grass encroachment under control.
