A tip for all buttons, especially the sticks, triggers and bumpers is to hold the controller with whatever you're cleaning pointing down so any possible buildup falls out instead of into the controller.

Vinegar is a good cleaning solution that also disinfects to an extent. But honestly? Just disinfect and then polish.

I fix people's stuff at a repair cafe, and it baffles me people don't clean electronics before knowingly giving them to someone else to work on them.
Yet nothing beats "kitchen PCs" I had to work with in college. It's exactly how you imagine a PC would look like in a back of a college cafeteria.
