Had a friend that got blasted with a glass beer bottle. Brian damage and long stay in the hospital but he lived.
When he came back, he was 100% a different person. Abandoned his family, started talking to overseas women, gambling, and many other self destructive activities.
Before? Dude was a stand up guy. Worked hard and was a great family man. Sad that Fettermen basically suffered the same fate, but he needs to go.
I do find it somewhat funny that after suffering severe brain damage, Republican ideals became appealing to him. It says a lot about the rest of the group.
There’s a cool documentary Marwencol (2010) about a man who was beat up brutally and received life-altering brain damage. I can’t remember if it ever really touches on politics but he began a normal white dude and later on lived as a secret cross dresser who photographed GI Joes and Barbie’s in his backyard. Y’know the more I think about it maybe this actually still in line with the right.
Like, smashed over the head with a beer bottle? Holy fuck. They really should not have started such a cliché for that in bar fights in movies, I feel like some people think it'll break like the movies and you'll just "hurt the guy a little" not fucking kill them, or give them permanent brain damage.
My grandma's second husband was a farmer who lived pretty far out in the country. There was a guy that worked on his farm who just went by Plowboy. I have no idea what his actual name was, that was literally what everybody including his family called him.
Anyway, when I was a kid (probably 8ish), I overheard my grandma telling somebody that Plowboy's brother had gone into the biggest nearby city to take care of something, and Plowboy had insisted on going with him for some reason but wouldn't say why.
When they got there they split up, and apparently Plowboy had decided he wanted to go into the city to rob somebody. I don't know why, but I guess maybe he figured it would be easier to get away with it there than in the little town where he lived? It really didn't seem like he had given it much thought either.
He picked some random stranger, snuck up behind him, and stuck a glass coca cola bottle in his back like a gun and told him to give him his money.
The guy turned around and saw it was only a glass bottle, so he just took it from him and smashed it over his head then called the cops. I can't hear about a bottle being smashed over somebody's head without immediately remembering that story.
I remember a guy that always did stupid shit when he was drunk. One of his "party tricks" was to bite off pieces of beer glasses. One night he emptied a bottle of beer and just smashed it over his head, probably expecting it to shatter. It made a pretty anti climactic bonk sound and it knocked him out cold, hitting a barstool on the way down.
Right. This happened to him in the bathroom and the guy was looking to steal his wallet. Sad thing was, my friend didn't even press charges. Just so was fucked up. He didn't even care. His family was devastated. Amazing what some people will do and the outcomes they create.
That sounds like one of the worst things I can imagine, becoming a terrible person and actively making other peoples' lives worse. It's really sad to know that your friend would have been horrified of what he became.
I've been following him and he's stopped being a climate change denialist while on top gear but would only talk about it off camera. He started at admitting climate change was real on the grand tour and now on his farm show he openly talks about it. I won't defend him because I also thought it was off putting at first but I wanted to be bias.
With all that said remember he's an entertainer and not a lawmaker.
Hard to care about him. He gets one close call with death and becomes a worse person. Whereas most people who experience something like that become a better person.
He has to get the to point where he thinks MAGA are too leftist before he ratchets over to the other extreme and suggests maybe a communist dictatorship ain't so bad. So I'd say he's at least 1 more brain injury and/or lead exposure away from that point.
Some of these comments hoping for his demise are just terrible. I don't wish (further) harm on him, but I do hope it prompts him to retire. It'd be nice if it prompted a change of mindset, especially regarding free healthcare that he is the beneficiary of, but I'm sure that's too much to ask for
