Pathologizing fascism twists you into these types of knots. The truth is that the fascist we're currently seeing proliferate are cunning, deliberate, calculating, and effective. Now is not the time to underestimate the enemy.
Fascism is not the result of stupidity, but the result of measurable deterioration of education, social safety nets, wages, transportation, health, etc...
Their effective propagandists are not just exploiting the weaknesses of their marks and of the system they're pretending to be a part of, they've also been CREATING those weaknesses over the course of over half a century.
Pathologizing fascism twists you into these types of knots
Not with a little more specificity.
It's a literal cult created with the help of decades and decades of brainwashing and underhanded politics to clear the way.
Like with any effective cult, victims don't have to be especially stupid or gullible to be sucked in, but the longer they remain in the cult, the more warped their reality and the less acute their capacity for any contrary thought processes becomes.
The truth is that the fascist we're currently seeing proliferate are cunning, deliberate, calculating, and effective
Yes and no: while it's almost impossible to determine for sure who's what due to all the overlap between the swindlers and the swindled, most fascists aren't inherently especially clever or especially dull, they're just people who believe awful things, with various amounts of agency over it.
That's one of the worst parts of it: while some are obviously much more susceptible than others due to their environment, preexisting bigotry, lack of empathy etc, almost nobody is COMPLETELY safe from the fascist brainwashing, given enough time and the right environmental factors.
Now is not the time to underestimate the enemy.
On that we agree 100%
Fascism is not the result of stupidity, but the result of measurable deterioration of education, social safety nets, wages, transportation, health, etc...

Brother, youâre going to have to conclude that this is a Christian. In fact, he is THE Christian.
They keep showing us that this is Christian behavior and we keep pretending there is some majority of Christians out there that negates the behavior. Itâs a myth, the âgoodâ Christian.
âNot a Christianâ is simply the âno true Scotsmanâ fallacy of our times.
Is that sheâs a spoiled brat whoâs dad paid for a congressional run in a tiny state, which she lost, but has blond hair so the Trump weirdos had to have her.
Iâm sure sheâll get there soon enough, but sheâs only in her early twenties I think. The hate seems to prematurely age these assholes. Same with Miller and Cruz and the rest of these ghouls.
It's even more sinister than that. She is parroting Nazi propaganda written by Carl Schmitt which claims that the ultimate authority for moral and legal decision resides with the 'sovereign leader' and therefore anything that the leader decides is good and legal.
I looked for a first or second degree source to get the exact wording, but they're all paywalled behind academic journals. Behind the Bastards did a set on him
I know that sheâs just lying and being a piece of shit as usual.
She's not though. The supreme court says the president is above the law, remember? It is impossible for him to issue an illegal order, because the law does not apply to him. Jeez, get on board with the monarchy already.
It's what fascists believe, and what fascists can do is only limited by what they're allowed to get away with. So far, that's been pretty much everything.
Itâs not naive, itâs a lie meant to change the conversation and distort the opinions of people who donât know better.
If the person representing the government says it, it must be true, right?
They arenât saying that for people who know better. They donât care about people who know better. They are saying it for people who donât. Those are their supporters. Those are the people who can be made into supporters.
No, they did not. The ruling was the president cannot be sued for official acts. Any soldier who obeys an illegal order can still be held accountable. Well...in theory.
That's why Fox News was created in the first place. All those Nixon lickers went to work there to set up propaganda for shitheads and after thirty years - BINGO
If you're talking about the "If the President does it it's not illegal" quote, that came from an interview between Nixon and David Frost which occurred after his presidency was already over.
It's a performance. A dog and pony show. A cargo cult facsimile of "press access". They're only keeping up appearances until they don't have to anymore. As in, once everyone has dismissed it as a farce, they can stop with the farce. As long as there are too many remaining who try to take it seriously, who would get people riled up if they just stopped even bothering to PRETEND to have press access, they will keep pretending for the sake of convenience. We all know what's really happening here. A tourniquet has been secured around this limb and the blood flow has been terminated, and they're just waiting for it to die, rot, and fall off on its own.

It's literally just a reminder for troops to follow the law and the fact that the magasphere is taking it as a political attack is incredibly telling.

So a king but you can't say you're king in this country because of our countries historic animosity to kings.
I think it goes further than that. It takes the cultural tendency to pretend things are great while covering up issues (something that's especially strong with conservatives). Giving king/dictator an intelligent-sounding pseudoscientific name makes it very easy for their base to stop digging right there.
are you there yet America? or is there yet another fascist mark you need to pass before you call for a general strike or at least do a "no king" thingy on a weekday?
There was a post on Reddit a while back where Americans tried to name as many countries on a world map as they could. Quite a few didn't even get the United States in the right location. One person labelled Brazil as the United States and the United States as Canada, Canada and Alaska were Alaska.
The founding fathers were proto-fascists and created a fully fascist country that proceeded to do tons of fascist things.
Fascism is the dominate form of governance around the entire world. Stop pretending there is some moment of awakening. There is only fascism and more of it.
Why do you think all governments are against Anti-fascists? Hint: because they are all fascist.
Fascism is where the government and corporations merge. Please look at any modern government to see the revolving door between private and public.
Consolidated power with nationalism and scapegoating. Sound familiar? Oh yeah that is all of Europe. Perhaps you can argue the US is a worse form of fascism and I would happily agree.
Mexico is a vassal state to fascist America. They have been doing the biding of the USA for a very long time. Corruption and nationalism abound in Mexico.
If we want to defeat fascism we have to open our fucking eyes.
I suggest you update your views to the modern era.
First of all, we've been having a major political revolution since 2018 with AMLO, even though we weren't fascist before that, either. It's popularly referred to as the 4T, and it includes major reforms that have reduced corruption and significantly increased our quality of life. Second of all, the US can kiss our ass, and we've demonstrated that within the past year that we're not going to budge with Sheinbaum in charge, who has taken a defiant stance on many fronts already, even going as far as suing the USA personally.
nationalism
You misunderstand how that manifests in our culture, and I suggest you talk to Mexicans living in Mexico about how they feel about their country before bringing that up. Because if your archetype is the bleeding heart American with guns blazing and draped in a star-spangled flag with a Bible in hand, you'd be wrong and frankly insulting. We have a deep respect for our traditions and our general sense of family, which transcends borders. As the late Costa Rican-born artist Chavela Vargas once said, "We Mexicans are born wherever the fuck we want," because we're not exclusive but inclusive.
we have to open our fucking eyes
I also suggest you open your eyes to the rest of the world and stop being a Negative Nancy who's out to depress everyone. Look abroad. The world is bigger than, and doesn't revolve around, the US.
I think you need to stop pretending Mexico is not controlled by the US. It is a bad look to deny reality. We cannot fix our problems if you ignore the truth.
The US would roll Mexico over without breaking a sweat, but the truth is they don't need to. They own Mexico like they own all South America.
Stop pretending that I believe it is all about the US. It is all about the US or more importantly the extremely wealthy people that control it. I don't believe this, I know it.
You fell for political theatre. You live in a corrupt fascist country. We will never be able to fix this with everyone living in denial.
When you can point out the first country that isn't producing ever higher income gaps I will maybe believe they aren't entirely fascist.
Prior to the Jan 6 Trump Terrorist Overthrow attempt, he was asked multiple times if he intended to have a peaceful transfer of power.
The same types of âhe didnât mean itâ and âheâs the president, he canâ arguments were used and then bam! He committed treason that day and most days and we all collectively clutched our pearls. Now weâre letting it happen again but in a worse way.
Actually an order is illegal if it violates a federal statute or the Constitution. The order also cant ignore a court ruling. A president also cant give an order that exceeds the power Congress has delegated. And, the one Trump seems to ignore constantly. A president cant abuse his authority for personal benefit.
Short list of Trumps illegal orders:
Executive Order 14160: Trumpâs order to restrict birth right citizenship. A violation of the 14th amendment, and thus, illegal.
Executive Order 13769: First travel ban targeting several countries. Violation of due process and discrimination protections. Illegal.
Trump issued orders to penalize firms like Perkins Coie, WilmerHale, Jenner & Block, and Susman Godfrey. Illegal order, violating the 1st and 5ft amendments.
DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) executive orders. Blocked because DEI programs werent illegal. So the order to target "illegal" DEI programs was just straight up dumb as fuck.
Federal funding freeze. Violates the separation of powers. A president cant withhold money that Congress has appropriated.
Directive to the Election Assistance Commission to change voter registration rules. A president has no constitutional authority to dictate changes to the ECA.
No Leavitt, they're encouraging service members not to follow UNLAWFUL orders, quite literally what they said. How do you get from UNLAWFUL to LAWFUL? If the President only gives lawful orders then what's the big deal?

Second of all, the US can kiss our ass, and we've demonstrated that within the past year that we're not going to budge with Sheinbaum in charge, who has taken a defiant stance on many fronts already, even going as far as suing the USA personally.

To be fair the US military has never in more than isolated cases cared whether a order is "lawful" long history of gleefully committing "crimes".

The claim is that by definition anything the president orders is lawful by virtue of the president giving the order.
It's a necessary leap they need the rank and file to make if they want the freedom to unleash the military on cities they don't like.
