So I remembered Adam Savage mentioning that he got the phrase from a friend, so I went hunting for the video.
Anyone heard of a film called Dungeon Masters?:
They're from a mastodon instance. They replied to me so maybe the people they @ can see them? Idk. Fediverse is weird. Imagine you're on Reddit and someone tweets at you. Pretty cool though haha
I must be too online lol because I thought there's no way somebody doesn't know Epic Rap Battles of history. Pretty sure they're one of the biggest YouTube channels.
My opinion of them is tainted, because growing up my older brother was a little too obsessed with the Vader vs. Hitler one. Like there's no way it isn't concerning that he could recite the whole thing from memory...
"The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.
To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.
To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."
I don't think it's that obscure to people of a certain age, but every time someone orders a salad, my immediate reaction is "You don't win friends with that!"
If I take a lamp and shine it toward the wall, a bright spot will appear on the wall. The lamp is our search for truth, for understanding. Too often we assume that the light on the wall is God. But the light is not the goal of the search; it is the result of the search. The more intense the search, the brighter the light on the wall. The brighter the light on the wall, the greater the sense of revelation upon seeing it! Similarly, someone who does not search, who does not bring a lantern with him, sees nothing. What we perceive as God, is the byproduct of our search for God. It may simply be an appreciation of the light, pure and unblemished, not understanding that it comes from us. Sometimes we stand in front of the light and assume that we are the center of the universe. God looks astonishingly like we do! Or we turn to look at our shadow, and assume that all is darkness. If we allow ourselves to get in the way, we defeat the purpose; which is to use the light of our search to illuminate the wall in all its beauty… and in all its flaws. And in so doing better understand the world around us.
The first one was an actual advertising campaign for Dr Pepper, but considering your other one is from Thundercats, I'm guessing I should read the first one in Johnny 5's voice.
Most of my references are from a sketch comedy troupe but my favorite of theirs is
"Whose a good baby? Presumably you are!" said to a baby. With a silly intonation. I like saying it with the weird intonation to cats. I don't have a human baby, prop or not!
In context, they don't know where the baby came from, it just appeared in the mess that is the props room. So he was being an oblivious not having baby guy.
In reality it was the guy who was holding its baby. He knows it's cute, it's his baby lol.
“In the future, if you're wondering: 'Crime. Boy, I don't know,' is when I decided to kick your ass."
I often use this quote in jest to my partner when my wife is actively annoying me replacing [ Crime. Boy I don’t know ] with what ever joke they’ve just made at my expense.
Yeah I loved eternity, but the bugs keep piling up to the point of annoyance. Very happy with Thunder these days. And Voyager is great too. Both open source and very actively developed.
We've met before, haven't we?
I don't think so. Where was it you think we met?
At your house. Don't you remember?
No. No, I don't. Are you sure?
Of course. As a matter of fact, I'm there right now.
