I didn't realize there were states without this still... I guess I was wrong: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restrictions_on_cell_phone_use_while_driving_in_the_United_States

Even in MA, it is not heavily enforced, I see people driving with a phone every other day.

That is out of date. Someone should look up the law in Iowa that just went into effect and update it. I'm too lazy to look up the required details.

These bans are worthless unless you actually enforce them.

That's funny, here in California we just upped the strictness on our cell phone ban. Now touching it in any way while driving is treated as using it.

I can see the benefit of banning cell phone use while driving, but there's little point in modern cars when there is an even bigger touchscreen integrated into the car.

Things would be a lot better if people would use the Bluetooth functionality of their car so they wouldn't have to be holding their cell phones to their ears.

Next let's make a law against abusing your child by naming it "Camberleigh".

Just when you think you’ve got a decent understanding of the USA and that it has little surprise left … it pulls one of these out of its hat…in the middle of that other big surprise from the past year.

Goretantath@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 220d

Ah, so THATS why so many outastaters keep using their cells while driving around me..

Digit@lemmy.wtf · 1 pts · 219d

Does this include preventing the car itself from using its inbuilt cell phone?

That would prevent yet even more crashes.
