In Nebraska you're old enough to vote or die for your country at age 18 or 19, but don't you dare think you're worthy of earning the regular adult minimum wage.
Oh man, I made a mistake taking the ASVAB. I had no plans of joining the military, but was encouraged to take the test anyway. I got 99s or 97s in all the general categories and a 99 in Electronics (my program of study at the time). I had Air Force and Navy recruiters chasing me for months. Navy recruiter said he wanted me for a nuclear technician. It took close to a year for the last attempt to contact me ended.
The law in my state defines ageism as discriminating against people over forty.
Fun fact! I complained at a job once because I was up for promotion and instead they hired a 22 year old with no experience vs my 11 years experience in the field and my boss accused me, a 35 year old, of ageism against this 22 year old person.
Funner fact! It wasn't actually ageism on my part but sexism on their part, because I happen to be a 35 year old woman and they chose to hire a 22 year old boy to be my boss. Then they asked me to train him. Then they fired me.
The fact that this wasn’t done in a “sensible” (using that term loosely) manner, say, limiting wage for people who are dependants, or even people under 18, shows that this is just a way to further kneecap the younger generations.
It's already so low, there is no reason to further limit the wage. It used to provide for a dignified life, 50 years ago, before they changed the cpi to understate it, while also not raising the minimum wage almost ever. Inflation adjusted is laughable, not that you all don't believe it, all they need is a consensus of ivy league suits to tell you your buying power has never been higher. Who are you going to believe, history, or them? Them obviously.
It's likely to fuck older workers, honestly. I'm sure as soon as people hit the age where they qualify for the higher minimum wage, they'll find a way to drop them.
My partner showed me this a couple years ago. Now, we'll be talking or I have a thought and the conclusion is "America" to which the follow-up is "want to put it on?"
It hits me harder each time I watch it especially how things have further eroded since then
Edit: I was curious and checked out the comments. They were surprisingly wholesome but I didn't scroll too far. However one sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole and I found something that made me do a double take:

The text from that image reads
THE TWO PLATFORMS
Every RADICAL in Congress VOTED for NEGRO SUFFRAGE. Every RADICAL in the Pennsylvania Senate VOTED for NEGRO SUFFRAGE. STEVENS, FORNEY & CAMERON are for NEGRO SUFFRAGE; they are all Candidates for the UNITED STATES SENATE. NO RADICAL NEWSPAPER OPPOSES NEGRO SUFFRAGE GEARY said in a Speech, at Barrisburg, 11th of Angust, 1866-"THERE CAN BE NO POSSIBLE OBJECTION TO NEGRO SUFFRAGE"
It's the writing style. If that is the type of material that one reads in their formative years it makes sense that it's emerging again in the twilight years
Ps. I'm sorry I spent so much time on this it just struck me and I had to explore. Made me sick at some points. To be clear, I support everyone's right to vote but the above quoted message was demonizing that sentiment. Also to be clear, Geary was a white man and won that election
Do you want to put your foot on the gas for brain drain? Because thats how you do it. Anyone smart enough to get accepted to an out-of-state school will never come back.
Nebraska lawmakers vote to take away the peoples votes. If a a majority doesn't matter, then their votes don't matter. Every Nebraskan would be supporting bowing and no say apparently ...
Honestly they should just "deport" every representative who defied their votes from the state and let the federal government say " you can't remove people for disagreeing with democracy"
Edit, did you know that charging 6000% property taxes to Republicans brings down house prices better than deporting people?

Because our laws are written by the elderly, ageism is legally defined as discrimination against old people.
