Hello everyone! After Discord's new CEO came to power, I think its now time to find a viable discord alternative. I figured out that fluxer.app might very well be the best one so I decided to make a community about the Fediverse on there
Fluxer is a discord-like application that also aims to bring decentralization by making users able to host their own Fluxer instances! There's a lot of potential and I think we should support the project. If you want to join, here's the link :D
EDIT: So guys, about the CLA thing.. Hampus (the Developer) removed the CLA completely so now the software is released under plain AGPLv3, which is really nice! Here's my source

Stoat have ruled out federation. They are also UK based too. Not good long term.

Yes they have. It is third in their priority list.
But a centralised system based on a service hosted in the UK?

Idk what you're talking about since Fluxer is based in Sweden
Skavau@piefed.social · 1 pts · 183d
I was referring to Stoat there.
super_user_do@feddit.it · 1 pts · 183d
Ohh stoat is based in the UK, which isn't exactly the best in terms of privacy
super_user_do@feddit.it · 1 pts · 183d
Stoat's great issue is that development has been stagnating for the past like 5 years. It's bad because it doesn't have a sustainable business model (which Fluxer has by the way) and also because it is based in the UK

Having the pricing model upfront is a good thing. Running these services costs money, and I'd rather know what their plan is now than be surprised in the future.
Skavau@piefed.social · 1 pts · 184d
Idk how the pricing model works down the line when federation is active, but yeah.

Seems like "premium features" only apply to users on the flagship server. If you self-host you get everything.
Skavau@piefed.social · 2 pts · 184d
Yeah that means that he'll be degrading his own income down the line lol but it does give new self-hosters the same tools to collect income which, like it or not, is necessary.
super_user_do@feddit.it · 6 pts · 184d
Really fair point, but I think some compromises are necessary to keep the project financially sustainable. Stoat is incomplete, it's not federated and has shady development practices. Also, vc barely works and it's unreliable as heck

I think they mean Voice Chat with VC lol

I think they might mean the GenAI back and forth

I would really like to read the CLA, but this:
Seems like a green flag. If followed through in the CLA, it means that any version released under AGPLv3, that contains any contributions, will remain under AGPLv3. So in theory Fluxer could at some point change the license, but everything up until then would remain free and open source and available to, for example, continue a similar project. Furthermore, as long as the code contains contributions that were made during the AGPLv3 days the code will remain under AGPLv3.

Updates on the CLA thing Apparently Hampus (the developer of Fluxer) stated that he's removing the CLA completely

I was hoping for a decentralized version of discord ever since they started requiring phone numbers.
vogi@piefed.social · 5 pts · 183d
We really do be needing a fancy xmpp client with voip with mumble or something else. Especially if https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0503.html gets stable and implemented. I do not use xmpp, but I dont understand why it does not get the same love matrix or even irc gets. (in terms of being an alternative)
innocentz3r0@programming.dev · 3 pts · 182d
The clients for XMPP are really bad. Also, matrix sells itself in a variety of ways, discord alternative, corporate usability, e2ee signal replacement, all that. Although matrix client implementations aren't that great, the publicity does work. And IRC has historic relevance.

Is Fluxer US based though?
M137@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 184d
No, why ask this instead of just looking it up? It's Swedish.
Lumisal@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 184d
Thank you

I still dont understand. Why not Matrix based Element or Continuwuity?
super_user_do@feddit.it · 1 pts · 180d
Because Matrix has got to many inconsistencies and it's too complicated for the average user. Sometimes e2e encryption breaks chat history, the official instance is slow and, most of all, there is NO native support for video calls and screen sharing. Element just uses Jitsi Meet In a chromium wrapper
fruitycoder@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 180d
I belive the native support piece is recently out of date info: https://element.io/blog/exploring-matrixrtc-real-time-communication-in-rooms/
Skavau@piefed.social · 1 pts · 180d
Because no-one is using it
fruitycoder@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 180d
But that is more true of any newer system
Skavau@piefed.social · 1 pts · 180d
Right, but Matrix has been around for a while and yet its only use is to be a hub for tech-related projects and support rooms. How would you propose we somehow get people using it?
fruitycoder@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 179d
Thats mostly a UX piece not a backend thing to me. Matrix RTC is a huge step to me, but discord is just voice channels for me.
I want to check commets voice chats myself

The link doesn't seem to be working.
super_user_do@feddit.it · 2 pts · 179d
They closed the community. It's been cool until it lastedÂ
Skavau@piefed.social · 1 pts · 179d
They seem to have pulled the room.

Did something happen to the Fluxer community? It's suddenly gone from my list (with no "!" outage symbol, just gone) along with the second one that was established for ApexSync. Curious where else to follow the community while ApexSync is still in development.
Pamasich@kbin.earth · 2 pts · 180d
I'm assuming they acted rash and emotionally when they decided to make their own platform, and realized the task was too big for them to shoulder, so they went nuclear. It's not just the fluxer stuff, at least one of them also deleted their socials.
I think them deleting their apexsync discussion server before the release date (so people have no chance to switch over if they forget the name) is proof that the project has died. Or at least isn't planned to release any time soon after all.
super_user_do@feddit.it · 1 pts · 180d
Apparently Fluxer is moving the infrastructure to a better one so sometimes outages are to be expected..Rome wasn't build in 3 days
Pamasich@kbin.earth · 2 pts · 180d
No, they're pointing out that the server this post is about got deleted.
The admins got annoyed by Fluxer's stability issues and announced they'd be developing their own activitypub platform instead to compete with fluxer, leading to them neglecting the Fluxer server this post is about.
Then, both the fediverse server and the one about their alternative got deleted. At least one of the admins also deleted their Mastodon.
TheBeardmancer@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 180d
Bummer, I was enjoying the community.
super_user_do@feddit.it · 2 pts · 179d
heck I go away 1 day and nukes get thrown
