And he said that all those small things can be done quickly, so people see results quickly and that builds a positive relationship with the public and that builds the political capital do do bigger things and start projects that take longer so people will have to wait and trust longer before results happen.

There need to be tests to determine if somebody is fit to own a gun or operate a vehicle. Part of that test needs to be about visual and mental aquity. Your mind and sight needn't be perfect, but at some point you are crossing too much into "you can't be trusted with other peoples safety if you are allowed to operate this instrument of death" and that is where a line needs to be drawn.
There is nothing ableist about that, it's a common sense safety measure for the people around you.

Ich bin Weitstreckenpendler. Mit 486 km reine Pendelstrecke pro Woche sind das 25+ Liter pro Woche. Ich spare auf ein E-Auto, aber ich verdiene weniger als 3000 netto im Monat. Ich verstehe extrem gut wie es sich aufatmen lässt sollte der Sprit wieder deutlich unter 2€ fallen. E10 ist mein zweithöchster Kostenfaktor nach Miete.
Trotzdem würde ich lieber ein 9€-Ticket sehen. Weil was irgendwie keiner anspricht... die Preise werden noch DEUTLICH steigen. In Frankreich sind viele Tankstellen schon leer. Wir müssen WEG von den fossilen Energieträgern. Und es kümmert die Deutschen halt immer erst wenn's ans Geld geht. Das sagen ja selbst die Wirtschaftswissenschaftler. Und dann bezuschussen unsere Ärmsten jetzt die Leute mit den dicken Sportwagen und SUV? Das kann's ja irgendwie nicht sein.
