She was the least popular candidate in 2020, but for some reason Biden chose her as his VP. Then she lost to Donald Trump in 2024, after practically being forced onto the ticket. And she's still thinking about running again?

JFC. Whoever is telling her this is a good idea, needs to be fired.

AshMan85@lemmy.world · 55 pts · 179d (1 reply)

Probably the same person that told Hillary to run

Michelle Obama is an immensely qualified and insightful human being for a number of reasons and BitchBoyBurr sold his soul to bonesaw McGee and the oil bunch without a second thought and then whined like the pathetic little supplicant he is at heart when people called him out for it. Fuck him forever.

Talked mad shit about those billionaires until they offered him a check finally. Turned out he was just jealous.

Canconda@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 178d

Looks like I linked it wrong. Was only linking the joke at 4:00 in... can't find a clip with just that. https://youtu.be/YYxJUGjmuxE?t=241

Nothing against Michelle Obama unfortunately that joke was included in the video.

wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz · 19 pts · 179d

That's the problem with the DNC putting identity politics over matters of policy. And I don't even use that term in the same sense as the right-wing anti-DEI psychosis.

DEI is a matter of policy. Choosing a milquetoast establishment neoliberal solely because she's a woman of color is identity politics.

It's better to nominate a progressive regardless of race, gender, or sexuality, than it is to nominate the most intersectional minority who panders to the right-wing "moderates."

The Dems lost in 2016 because they forced Hillary on everyone when they wanted Bernie. Clearly they still haven't learned their lesson...

samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 178d (2 replies)

for some reason Biden chose her as his VP

Because she was friends with his late son and fellow AG Beau.

FanciestPants@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 178d (1 reply)

She also took the most aggressive and direct shot at Biden that I can recall during the primary with her criticism of Biden's position on busing.

samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 177d

And to Biden's credit, he approved of her being willing to challenge him like that.

red_tomato@lemmy.world · 63 pts · 179d (7 replies)

Her only merit was that she’s not Trump. It’s a very good merit, but let’s hope for some stronger candidate next time, if there ever will be a next time.

Canconda@lemmy.ca · 26 pts · 179d

Ultimately americans need to turn over 3/4 of their sitting politicians by 2028 or else the power structure will remain unchanged.

Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 25 pts · 179d

Her only merit was that she’s not Trump

Correct.

It’s a very good merit

Not anywhere near as good as it sounds, given how difficult it is for millions of eligible voters to actually vote.

No matter how evil the alternative is, you have to give people something to vote FOR in order to convince them to risk their livelihood while waiting in line in November weather for sometimes half a dozen or more hours, quite likely with children in tow or while paying for unaffordable childcare.

The DNC won't hear of it, though. They're a for-profit corporation that exists to maximize legal (and sometimes illegal) bribes coming their way, regardless of electoral outcomes.

let’s hope for some stronger candidate next time, if there ever will be a next time.

Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 178d

Being "not Trump" literally only worked cause of Covid. If that didn't happen, I can almost guarantee he would have won 2020. As annoying as it is, the people that would vote for a Dem candidate need to be convinced to do so and no amount of calling them lazy or accusing them of being terrible people will change that. Blue no matter who won't work.

An electoral system always creates a ruling class. If you want to remove it, you need to randomly pick citizens and rotate them every x years. It's the only option to have a legislative body that is actually representative of the people, be it for the better or the worst.

BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 8 pts · 178d

notwhoyouthink@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 178d

Absolutely. Unfortunately this seems to be quite common with those that aim to run.

If Americans were actually represented by our government, things would be vastly different here and around the world.

defaultusername@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 34 pts · 179d (1 reply)

I'd love for her to run again and take votes away from Gavin Newsom in the primary so an actual working class candidate can win the nomination.

We can thank elizabeth warren for biden since you bring that up, our great progressive champion that knowingly threw the primary to genocide joe.

aramis87@fedia.io · 33 pts · 179d (1 reply)

If she wants to win, she needs to be out there today pushing back against the regime. Instead, there's crickets. That's a "No" vote from me.

MisterD@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 178d

Nobody in the DNC are pushing. They are all afraid. When the 2026 election is stolen, they will still do nothing.

chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world · 28 pts · 179d (6 replies)

And if she runs again and becomes the candidate, she'll lose again.

Kamala, dear, you're nearly as milquetoast as Biden. You're female, black, younger Biden. Nobody wanted Biden.

corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 179d (5 replies)

...and so many people didn't quite f'n get it that if you don't vote for Harris, you get Trump. Binary choices are easy for kids to understand but hard for American voters.

Have the day you begged for.

mercano@lemmy.world · 22 pts · 179d (1 reply)

We really need to move past First Past the Post, but the people who can institute the change are the people who are elected by FPTP.

hector@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 178d

We can in states with voter sponsored ballot initiatives, Michigan I think will be having a ranked choice voting constitutional amendment by referendeum after they submit a million signatures of registered voters or whatever it is.

Other states already did it, Alaska I know. It is a superior system that rejects extremists candidates, and makes people running third party not play spoiler. If you vote for third party first, you choose if he loses, your vote goes to the democrat. If the democrat loses, then your vote goes to Crimedog McGruff, or whatever.

hector@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 178d

If you nominate harris you get the president. You knew the situation and did it anyway.

I hope she does run again, because this time she’ll have to face a contested primary. I can’t wait to laugh my ass off when Kamala garners less than 3% of the primary votes. Hope the dumbass DNC wastes several hundred million on her before that happens too, serves them right to back corpo trash like Harris. Not like they’ll ever learn the right lessons from any of this anyway.

every second you spend berating the democrats, the right grows stronger. pick your battles friendo. I'm sure your contempt feels good but it's not flipping anyone's vote for midterms. focus on what's important, please.

DougPiranha42@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 179d

And what is important? The DNC pushing nationally unelectable, unpopular candidates down the throat of the electorate during primaries, so they can lose the general election to the republican candidate like Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Kamala Harris in 2024?

Theprogressivist@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 179d

You had your shot and chose the establishment. Fuck off into the same hole Biden is in.

Mantzy81@aussie.zone · 16 pts · 179d

I think Kamala would be a okay President (as in, "not a fucking idiot" ), however she's still a corporate pawn, Israeli shill and centre right like most other Dems who's main selling point is "not Trump". There are few good options within the whole party who actually support social agendas and not whatever a company's lobbyists or Zionists are paying them to support.

But more crucially, she's a woman, and not white and for 50% of the voting population (i.e. the ones who actually get off the couch to go vote), their racism and misogyny is more than enough reason to not vote for her - in fact, they'd relish in not doing so as it supports their fundamental principles of being a cunt.

ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works · 15 pts · 178d (1 reply)

Alright, lose to AOC in the primary then.

I mean, at this point AOC is the only good option possible out of who is looking at running. If there's someone with a better chance and track record, I am all ears.

Doomsider@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 178d

I was originally thinking AOC versus Erica Kirk.

AshMan85@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 179d (1 reply)

Nope, give us someone better

LumberjackRanger@leminal.space · 2 pts · 178d

Somebody we can believe in.

TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 179d (4 replies)

Yeah, I don't think Harris is the candidate, but who is? I'm skeptical that democratic voters can reach a consensus on a candidate. I'm sure establishment/moderate Democrats can come to a consensus on their candidate, and progressives can come to a consensus on their candidate, but there's only one party nomination. Will the progressives vote for the candidate the moderates come up with? Will the moderates vote for the candidate the progressives come up with?

BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 19 pts · 179d

Right now, we have only one priority, and everything else has to take a back seat until we fully accomplish that objective: We have to crush MAGA decisively, and purge it from our government and our society. We cannot address all the other problems this nation faces as long as we have treasonous, corrupt, racist, pedophiles cheating, bribing, stealing, intimidating their way into power, and keeping good things from happening to this country.

So the next Democratic president has to be a Warrior. We cannot afford any more feckless Democrats like Biden and Obama, who stood by and watched as the larval Republicans morphed into their final stage: MAGA, and stole America right out from under their noses.

The next president needs to know that we expect them to FIGHT for us. We are in unprecedented times, and we will require unprecedented solutions, and we need a President who isn't afraid to act decisively toward the true National Security Threat that a violent domestic terrorist organization like MAGA genuinely represents.

I will support the candidate who pledges to fully crush MAGA, and MEANS it.

I'm not sure who that person is yet, but I'm looking at Mark Kelly, Pritzker, and a couple others. There are a few I would love to see in the office, like AOC or Warren, but they can't get elected right now. Newsome is a phony billionaire lover.

I'm waiting for that Warrior to step up, and declare war on MAGA. THAT'S my guy.

CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 179d (2 replies)

Well said.

Also: will the progressives vote for the candidate progressives come up with? Because there is always the chance that when it boils down to an actual individual, they may not pass some purity test(s) that are typically run against politicians.

LuceVendemiaire@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 0 pts · 178d

"purity test" hey quick question would you still vote for someone who dismisses trans rights

Sadly, the voting idiots of he United States would just elect Donald Trump again if K.H. ran again... even if it meant digging up his dead body...because let's stop lying. It wasn't about het being "chosen" without a primary. She lisy because she was a woman and she was black. Americans will not elect s female president, probably within the next 50 years. Misogyny is alive and well, burning brightly right beside racism, in America. I say that as a white man who had seen and heard every excuse and every lie. Americans are stupid. That's the bottom line. They are ignorant and uneducated, and don't want to be educated. They enjoy their ignorance and their racism and misogyny. They will not change until the Boomers and Gen X (I'm Gen X) are dead and buried because those two generations are a millstone around the neck of this nation. Sadly, we're bringing up an apathetic pair of generations in the form of Gen Z and Gen Alpha who just don't care about anything beyond their pet causes and social media accounts. In the last 30 years, Americans have thrown our once great nation to its knees and they're guilty of raping lady liberty as surely as the Epstein rapists and murderers are guilty of the crimes they committed. I worry that ghhd country I grew up loving is going to have to burn to ash before it can be recovered...IF it can be recovered...which is justifiably questionable. Anyone saying Trump was a better choice should be forced to move to Russia...along with thd people who voted for him - or "obstained" and got him elected. This IS America's WORST GENERATION.

AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world · -2 pts · 179d (2 replies)

Already working for Trump, Putin, and AIPAC I see.

/u/return2ozma consistently called for no one to vote for Harris, or Biden, during 2024, actively helping Trump to win by sowing defeatist propaganda. They are a Nazi supporter, adjacently.

They don't care who the DNC runs, they will campaign against them, because no one that makes it through the primary will ever be "pure" enough for this troll.

Edit: your down vote just helps to prove my point. You are an anti-democracy troll.

"A secret postmortem of Harris’s performance by the DNC found that her major issue with voters stemmed from Biden’s poor handling of Israel’s massacre in Gaza and her own refusal to break with him on it, a policy choice that fundamentally soured support from progressives and young voters."

This statement and seeing who posted it disregards the entire article. This is an attempt to undermine a solid democratic candidate to help the right win in 2028 nothing more.
