the corruption has reached such a high level of volume and frequency now that americans dont even care any more. its now perfectly fine to spend tax dollars on steak and lobster. cant pay your rent or car loan or mortgage ? from the other side of the world you look like you are ruled by the mafia and 40% of you think its great.
dohpaz42@lemmy.world · 43 pts · 162d
We care. We just can’t do anything about it. So we dissociate to survive.
HasturInYellow@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 162d
Mayhaps we could gather in small secret groups and decide which building look especially cold this winter. Maybe we could help warm them up.
K9life@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 162d
This, right here, you nailed it
johan@feddit.nl · 1 pts · 162d
Yes as we know that's how tyrants have been overthrown throughout history, by all getting together and giving up.
dohpaz42@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 162d
Your lack of mental health awareness is disturbing, and dangerous. Do better.
johan@feddit.nl · 1 pts · 161d
I understand you might look at it from your personal point of view, but you gotta be able to take a step back too.
The most powerful country in the world is sliding into fascism, we are months away from from perhaps the most consequential election in US history and the response from you is "nothing can be done, and thinking about it too much is bad for my mental health".
Of course I'm simplifying and I definitely empathise with the many Americans who are suffering and struggling, but if you think that my comment is "dangerous" then surely so is your defeatist message?
So much can still be done, and it's vitally important to keep caring and try and protect democracy and rule of law. Who is the "we" you are talking about? Because surely it's far from all Americans.

We probably be better off with the Mafia in charge.

daychilde@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 162d
Yes, that is what the article says. :)
Wilco@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 162d
The military does this as well. I got put on a rifle detail in basic, 6 of us has to shoot several cases of ammo. If the company didn't use the ammo they would not get it for the next training session.
Breezy@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 161d
So why not keep the ammo you shot instead of wasting it.
Wilco@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 161d
Because if you have 2 cases of unused ammo they will cut the amount you get next time by 2 cases and you may not have enough.
The ammo can't be saved/hidden ... because it is military weaponry. It has to be turned back in or used (spent casings turned in).
Breezy@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 161d
May not have enough for what? This is just a complete waste of money. They litteraly set it on fire in order to get the same amount as last year.
Wilco@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 161d
They may not have enough for the rifle range if they get shorted. No, they fire the ammo, they shoot the ammo and turn in the spent casings.
Breezy@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 161d
They seem to have enough to waste at the end of every year so i think they get plenty. Wasting it is just stupid. And idk how to respond to that second sentence. It seems so ai, its not like i litteraly meant they were catching ammo on fire jfc.
krull_krull@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 0 pts · 162d
That's finr better than nit using all the budget and have it decreased next quarter, and unable to respond when there's a need for sudden spending increase
That said tho, there are BETTER AVENUE for rhat kind of things. Repurposing old weaponry to send for Ukraine perhaps? But who I'm kidding.
Brkdncr@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 162d
Honestly feeding military workers surf & turf once a year isn’t a problem for me. I wish they would do it every year they have surplus budget.
CubitOom@infosec.pub · 20 pts · 162d
They do it before they send them to war.
PyroNeurosis@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 10 pts · 162d
Or extend deployments. The MoraleMeal^TM^ is a flexible all-in-one solution to fixing attitudea.
Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 162d
The expense of feeding the troops a fancy meal was a fraction of the cost of one of the hundreds of missiles they've used so far in Iran. It's just about the least objectionable line item in the entire military budget right now.
Muffi@programming.dev · 8 pts · 162d
It's cute that you think actual military workers got some of this surf & turf splurge. It was only for the suits on the very top - barely military.
somethingsnappy@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 162d
Lol. Surplus budget. It isn't the late 1990s.
Brkdncr@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 162d
That’s what was in the article.
night_petal@piefed.social · 9 pts · 162d
I may be misreading the wording used in the article, but to me it reads like they were getting orders of doughnuts at $600 each somehow. Were they just getting massive amounts of fancy doughnuts per order ?
bitjunkie@lemmy.world · 26 pts · 162d
No. They were laundering public funds.

any dammage they do to the USSA terror regime is welcomed by the world.
Jaysyn@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 161d
I wish this was actually damaging to them.
Bloomcole@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 161d
they do a lot of dammage.
Usually to the rest of the world now also themselves.
Better to have this incompetent evil government than the usual evil one.
