Chief Justice John Roberts says that hostility toward judges has ‘got to stop’

https://www.cnn.com/2026/03/17/politics/john-roberts-hostility-got-to-stop

Chief Justice John Roberts warned against personal attacks on the judiciary, telling an audience Tuesday that while criticism of opinions is fair game, “personally directed hostility” is dangerous and must stop.

Roberts did not mention Donald Trump by name and, as he so often does, he went out of his way to stress that the attacks he was referring to were coming from “not just any one political perspective.” However, the chief justice’s admonishment came weeks after Trump said that justices who ruled against his sweeping tariffs were an “embarrassment to their families.”

Idk man maybe you shouldn't have given immunity to the guy who's given to attacking anyone who doesn't bend over and take his micro dick

My god is that the consequences of my own actions I hear?!?!??!?

Justice Roberts sowing: Hahaha! Holy shit, this is awesome!

Justice Roberts reaping: Oh, what the fuck? This fucking sucks.!

The hostility will continue until immunity is removed.

Roberts is such a dishonest jackass.

Maybe they need to start doing their jobs, first.

iltoroargento@lemmy.sdf.org · 18 pts · 162d (5 replies)

Judges have always been a toss up in the US. Most of the time, their job has been taking bribes and protecting the interests of the orphan crushing rich.

dhork@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 161d (4 replies)

Sir! You offend me. Those judges do not take bribes. That would be illegal!

They take gratuities. See? Those are totally different.

I would submit that hostility towards conservative judges needs to increase.

FuglyDuck@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 161d

traitors that need impeaching, conviction and imprisonment for the rest of their pathetic life.

any one going along with Trump's nazis thing (including roberts.)

But I suspect Roberts is talking about conservatives calling pizza shops and having them deliver pizzas to justices as a form of intimidation, as well as the straight up threats, etc.

and he is right, that needs to stop.

kreskin@lemmy.world · 43 pts · 162d

He can go fuck himself.

Didntdoit71@feddit.online · 42 pts · 161d (2 replies)

Roberts is a direct cause of this hostility...because he chose partisan political play over protecting human rights and upholding the constitution as written. He played the game for a dancing orange wannabe emperor. He lost the respect of the world and history. He can go fuck himself.

This is what happens when you sell your soul to the devil. Remember during Trump one, when Kennedy stepped down to make room for Kavanaugh? And right after the Kavanaugh swearing, Trump and Kennedy are walking away from the podium, and Trump says something-- and Kennedy stops dead in his tracks, saying basically "Wait what?"

https://www.c-span.org/clip/white-house-event/user-clip-a-wag-of-the-finger/4754791

I'm still waiting to hear about a lip reader telling people what was being said there, at least as much as can be seen. At the time the speculation was that Trump pulled strings to get Kennedy's son out of some trouble (that I forget) in exchange for Kennedy stepping down early to make room for Kavanaugh. And in that clip it looks like mere seconds after the Kavanaugh announcement, Kennedy found out just how much Trump's word was worth.

You see his hand go up, "Relax, guy!"

ToiletFlushShowerScream@piefed.world · 33 pts · 162d

It's nice to see roberts admit he's turned the court completely away from the Constitution and is now purely a political actor serving as the activist for Republicans.
He deserves every hostility he gets from every American he has betrayed in order to enrich himself and his buddies. Families are suffering because of him, and he doesn't think he deserves their hate?

Surely small, regular violences committed by one person toward 340,000,000 people merit a large violence against that one person in retaliation?

phutatorius@lemmy.zip · 13 pts · 161d (1 reply)

Systematic dismantling of democracy is not a small violence.

EvilBit@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 161d

Divided up among the hundreds of millions of individuals, it becomes small in a relative sense. Relative to something like the murder of an individual, the impact of dismantling democracy is small and protracted, but the largeness of the violence in aggregate is real and what my original post alludes to in applying it to an individual.

Problems bigger than Roberts.

Problems the Federalist Society.

It has compromised Lawyers and Judges at every level, across the entire country, literally in the tens of thousands.

And is largely responsible for the legal wins for conservative terrorism.

Roberts is just one of a legion.

BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 160d (1 reply)

The thing is, Roberts has been in a position to stop this from happening for some time. He rubber stamped its approval essentially. THat's why he deserves his name shamed in history books.

A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 159d

Roberts has been in a position to do nothing but serve the Federalist Society agenda.

Thats why he rubber stamps all this shit.

And the Federalist Society needs to be why hes shamed in history books.

Federalist Society is basically Operation Snow White, if it had succeeded, as far as government infiltration/takeover attempts are concerned.

Only on a much more massive scale.. cause Snow White got about 5,000 people into government. Federalist Society has at least 70,000 Judgeships, District Attorneys offices, lawyers, etc etc.. amongst their ranks, in positions or poised to enterthem, and while Lawyers themselves may not be government, the shit they push in court can absolutely affect government.

Retail4068@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 161d

Ohhhh is Roberts afraid of the consequences of his actions?

On another note. Drones are incredibly easy to access and can deliver a payload quite easily.

whatalute@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 162d

Maybe if Roberts hadn't been so busy sucking off daddy donvict over the years then trump wouldn't have built up his insane expectation that the Supreme Court is there to do his bidding. But of course to Roberts...it's really only the people tired of being forced to witness to all of his court's dick sucking who are big meanies to him. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes Roberts.

He’s a coward who is directly culpable for everything we are going through right now.

crusa187@lemmy.ml · 9 pts · 160d

Roberts the dingus will forever go down in history as the chief justice whose court destroyed the very fabric of American democracy. Unbridled corruption and a dereliction of justice are this court’s defining features. Many SCOTUS before his attempted it, but it wasn’t until the neoconservative filth ushered in by the heritage foundation that they found success. May your remaining days be filled with disgrace and humiliation Roberts - I look forward to pissing on your grave to give you your chief justice desserts.

If the hostility is towards biased judges then stop being biased. You are not supposed to be biased. If the hostility is towards judges in general then fix your legal system. It isn't working if people are hostile towards judges for no reason.
