Can verify. I got a pair for my Super Mario costume, and it felt like someone was following me with their fingers in my belt loops and holding my pants up.
Maybe someday, but I'm not yet ready to be known as the suspenders guy.
I'm worried it would change my whole personality. I know I'd do the "simple country lawyer" routine just to be funny at first. Then people would cringe as it became less and less of a joke. One day I'd look in the mirror and realize, "This is who I am. This is who I've always been. I am Clarence Thibodeaux. Got my law degree from a gumball machine."
That's because you are very perceptive. It is a direct reference to a Dropout interpretation of the simple country lawyer trope. While I love complicated lawyer, I based my comment more on the Willy Wonka's lawyer version:
i had a suspenders phase, but now i use them mostly for work pants. i have a pair with those suspender-specific buttons but i ordered them in the wrong size so they were way too big when i got them and now that i've lost like 20 pounds they are probably most accurately described as "cavernous". i should try them on again. could be a fun escape room experience.
With belt of course. But, I also wear a device similar to a skirt cage, I designed and built it myself. It rests on wheels on the floor and attaches to the belt. One can't be too safe when it comes to trousers.
I'm now considering helium balloons attached to the belt loops.
Attach it to the suspenders between your shoulders so you can do the cool draw from behind thing. A Leatherman isn't long enough to have problems like a sword.
If you decide you do want to be a belt and suspenders guy, look up Perry suspenders.
They make suspenders that hook under your belt. More reliable than the little metal clips, no buttons to add to your pants, and you still have a place to attach your Leatherman.
I've got several pairs and I've been pretty happy with them.
I would have thought the whole point of suspenders is no belt. Instead of a belt pulled tight around your waist enough to hold up your pants and everything you carry, let yourself breath a bit, loose and comfy
I tried suspenders once. The problem was when my pants were tailored I was 15 pounds heavier so by the time I tried to wear the suspensers with the pants, it just pulled my pants up uncomfortably. I had to ditch em.
I'm pretty drunk and stoned right now so I can't tell if you're joking. Sorry. That doesn't sound like a suspenders problem. They hold pants up, not down. Have you considered adjusting the length of the shoulder straps?
No, but he was world famous for trying a thing, having it fail, and then abandoning that thing entirely instead of addressing the minor failure issue and trying the same thing again.
My pants pulling up into my crotch is no joking manner. I'm not trying to say all suspenders are bad, just sharing my one experience with wearing them. I probably had the wrong type and was probably wearing them wrong but I was getting married in an hour so I had to take the suspensers off and wear a belt.
I went through a suspenders phase when I was wearing suits on a regular basis. They’re both comfortable and another way to flash a little color when men’s fashion is so boring.
But it never occurred to me that you could wear them with other types of pants. Can you? These days I regularly wear khakis: are they appropriate? How about jeans?
I'm a khakis guy and recently switched to suspenders, specifically the kind meant to be worn under the shirt, and am loving the change. Much more comfortable IMO. I wear polo shirts untucked and people tell me they'd never know I wore them until pointed out.
Just make sure to use either suspenders or a belt but never both. It’s like double wrapping your dingus, if it can’t be done right the first way, the second way isn’t going to improve the situation, so if done correctly, the second way is redundant.
I bought these last year together with "Italian work pants" and "Wool pants" found on the same store! Really upped my way of dressing and had lots of good comments so far!
I got suspenders (because the store was literally out of belts) for my work pants that use the worst claw clamp mechanism I have ever seen.
There is like a 5mm gap between the teeth so I have to fold my work pants belt line double and still if it experiences more than 0.1N of force, it will just fly off. I finally got a cheap 2nd hand belt.

Aha, suspenders is American for braces!
So "suspenders and pants" is "braces and trousers".

+1. They are great. I prefer pants with the buttons sewn in rather than the more common steel clamps.
Remember_the_tooth@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 151d
Do you have a good source for those?

I'mma nerd out on you. I sewed them myself. I've seen magazines advertising them so its not just me. ;)

Fwiw, any place that alters pants can add them cheaply. Then again, I only used them with suit pants that needed alterations anyway

Cargo pants. Suspenders really need to go with cargo pants so you can carry all your tools 😂

sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 151d
They held my pants up too well, that was the problem. The suspensers were stretchy and no matter how I adjusted them it was still pulling up too much.

Have you tried ... larger suspenders?
sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 151d
I have not. That was my only experience wearing suspenders and I was getting married an hour later so I didn't have much time to get a bigger pair.
