He didn't know it was enough to be fatal until it was too late but I guess the truth isn't sensational enough to tweet

SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org · 85 pts · 140d (3 replies)

Yeah, the way it's worded makes him sound like a mad scientist.

a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world · 47 pts · 140d (2 replies)

In hindsight it would seem that he made a bad decision at least.

clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works · 11 pts · 140d (1 reply)

He mad

a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 140d

A mad lad?

starik@lemmy.zip · 147 pts · 140d (3 replies)

He thought the bite wouldn’t be fatal because of the snake’s age.

WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world · 36 pts · 140d (2 replies)

Isn't that usually the opposite from what we now know? Like the young can't control the venom or something?

starik@lemmy.zip · 38 pts · 140d

That’s right, he thought it was too old to kill him

Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de · 1 pts · 135d

well that goes both ways, a juvenile might go whole hog with the venom whereas an adult might decide it's not worth spending the venom on you.

doesn't matter, doctors still give you PPIs and call it a day.

Krudler@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 140d (7 replies)

Ulcers, occasional reflux, and GERD are different things.

This man's research specifically centered around ulcers and the cause.

__Lost__@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 9 pts · 139d (3 replies)

Then you should get a different doctor

PlasticExistence@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 139d (2 replies)

Pray you never recognize the truth behind why that user keeps saying that, because that will mean that you have a serious problem that doctors will have failed to help with.

That user’s experience was my experience too — with a highly-rated doctor.

Krudler@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 139d (1 reply)

You know dude, I've been there myself.

My sister's been there, my whole family's been there, I dated a gastroenterologist for 7 years, I created a computer-based training program which was first year medical-level for a research drug for reflux.

This dude's just driving the conversation down to the basest, most surly Facebook boomer-esque sniping. It's completely obnoxious, it misrepresents the actual medical facts behind the symptoms and treatment. One line cynical statements are just thought terminating and I detest them.

PlasticExistence@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 139d

Maybe he’s just in pain and you could try a little patience and empathy instead, especially considering your informed position.

Krudler@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 139d (1 reply)

Your redundant comments feel like some sort of anti-intellectual flex.

FundMECFS@piefed.zip · 10 pts · 139d

It’s not anti-intellectual to hold medical professionals to standards.

It’s well known that PPIs are overprescribed and many people end up having undiagnosed H. Pylori infections for a while before it’s picked up.

FundMECFS@piefed.zip · 11 pts · 139d

Because back then it was medical canon they were psychological/caused by anxiety.

gary215@thelemmy.club · 52 pts · 140d (4 replies)

That's a little bit to much dedication for me.

SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de · 43 pts · 140d (2 replies)

you're never going to be a world renowned herpetologist with that attitude

nova_ad_vitum@lemmy.ca · 10 pts · 139d (1 reply)

Best I could ever be is a semi-renowned derptologist.

I_am_10_squirrels@beehaw.org · 1 pts · 137d

Someone who studies huskies?

MissJinx@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 139d

is it? he never had to work a day again

Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works · 25 pts · 140d (3 replies)

Probably voided his life insurance policy.

bdonvr@thelemmy.club · 20 pts · 140d (2 replies)

Generally full life insurance covers even suicide (after a few years, you can't just buy it and go do that immediately)

puppycat@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 10 pts · 140d (1 reply)

going to the life insurance store and asking if they cover suicide

definitemaybe@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 139d

You don't need to ask. It's clearly explained in simple terms in the summary of coverage. It's not even hidden in the fine print.

voluble@lemmy.ca · 23 pts · 139d

“He got me,” Schmidt said of the snake's bite. "That f***ing Dispholidus boomed me."

Schmidt added, “He’s so good,” repeating it four times.

Schmidt then said he wanted to add the snake to the list of reptiles he wants to observe this summer.

Be "funny" but on-brand for this guy to be related to this Schmidt

InvalidName2@lemmy.zip · 7 pts · 139d

The lizards he's wearing look like at least a couple different species of Basillisk (I'm thinking it's a mix of Green and Brown Basilisks). They don't make great pets, but they do show up in the pet trade (at least in the USA). I wanted one soooo bad back in the day.

Treczoks@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 139d

Now that is a dedication to science. Hats off to this hero!

Ioughttamow@fedia.io · 3 pts · 140d

Anything for the great plan

MML@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 140d (1 reply)

Those lizards from Holes were real?

NannerBanner@literature.cafe · 3 pts · 139d

The species in question is a species of snakes.

Digit@lemmy.wtf · 2 pts · 139d

When one loves lizards too much.

dohpaz42@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 140d

The GOAT suicide plan.
