"Robert Mueller Some racist pervert dude just died. Good, I'm glad he's dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people!"
Wait. Am I doing this right?

Trex202@lemmy.world · -18 pts · 145d

Actually no

Jerb322@lemmy.world · 34 pts · 145d

Fucking headlines are getting stranger by the day.

markz@suppo.fi · 17 pts · 145d (13 replies)

The hell is pickleball

Apparently something like tennis, but on a badminton court.

invented in 1965 as a children's backyard game

SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world · 33 pts · 145d (7 replies)

It's worse-minton.

Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 145d

Bravo!

IronBird@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 145d (5 replies)

no, nothing is worse than badminton. besides maybe that speedwalking shit

SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 145d (3 replies)

Clearly you have not pickled the balls

But yes, speedwalking is worse than that

IronBird@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 145d (2 replies)

wait, just remembered that cup stacking bullshit that got forced on everyone for awhile that shit was even dumber

SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 145d (1 reply)

Nobody was forced to stack those cups, either.

IronBird@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 145d

definitely got pushed from down top, nobody would willingly stack cups for "sport" otherwise

Revolver1864@piefed.social · 1 pts · 145d

Hey it did give us the Black Cocks NZ badminton team in 2004

areakode@riskeratspizza.com · 13 pts · 145d (1 reply)

Old people tennis. I feel like the trend was going younger last year, but now I feel it's only for middle age people and older.

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 145d

badminton is old people tennis. i feel like pickleball is midlife crisis territory

Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 145d

A lower net. Plays a more like tiny tennis.

Been getting more and more popular over the decade, and it’s pretty huge in the states these days. If you’re in a major US metro, you know someone who plays it.

Munkisquisher@lemmy.nz · 1 pts · 145d (1 reply)

Kiddy tennis for unfit old people

glimse@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 145d

Ehh it's not the most fun game but it's good for anyone of any fitness level looking for exercise. We used to play it during winter in college and I was fit as fuck back then.

It's great for older people because there's way less joint stress and injury is, despite this article, pretty rare

What innovations did he make in "modern" cheerleading?

resipsaloquitur@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 145d

If I had to guess, financialization.

CaptainSpaceman@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 144d

Im guessing he was the reason Penn & Teller had to do a Bullshit! episode on the subject

Atelopus-zeteki@fedia.io · 9 pts · 145d

Another one bites the dust.

frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io · 8 pts · 145d

Let us use this opportunity to eliminate cheerleading altogether in his honor

teyrnon@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 145d (16 replies)

What the hell is pickleball?

TheLowestStone@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 145d (6 replies)

Tennis with ping pong paddles and a whiffle ball.

vikingtons@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 145d (5 replies)

this mf whiffed and died lmao

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 145d (4 replies)

or more likely (knowing absolutely nothing about his health or injury besides his age), i'd guess he had vision problems because he's 76, the vision problems combined with a rotation on the court caused him to trip and hit his head or break a bone in his torso/pelvis/femur and that hit or break was enough to cause whatever other health problems he had to overwhelm him.

i have a friend who was, for a brief time, the leading authority in the world in knocking over old people and her professional opinion is that most falls (like over 2/3 of them) are caused by vision problems. Keep your eyes checked as you age, and make sure your parents and grandparents (if they're still alive) have current prescriptions because falls can kill you way easier than you think.

i have a friend who was, for a brief time, the leading authority in the world in knocking over old people

This makes it sound like she out there pushing them over

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 144d

When I first referred to her biomechanical engineering PhD this way her husband spat across the room. They are very dear friends.

vikingtons@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 145d (1 reply)

appreciate you lookin out 🥰

DokPsy@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 145d

Well someone has to. The old people certainly can't.

MrScottyTay@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 145d (1 reply)

Tennis with pickles for balls

teyrnon@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 144d

Such a waste of pickles you hate to see it.

Glytch@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 145d (2 replies)

Tennis for out of shape people

ThomasWilliams@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 145d (1 reply)

That's badminton isn't it ?

Glytch@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 144d

Trade the shuttlecock for a whiffleball and you're there.

wesdym@mastodon.social · -5 pts · 145d (3 replies)

@teyrnon Something that's very easy to look up if you have Internet access.

teyrnon@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 144d (2 replies)

Oh rather. Why discuss anything, we van let computers tell us shit!

wesdym@mastodon.social · -2 pts · 144d (1 reply)

@teyrnon I know it's easier to use other people's brains than your own, but give it a try.

teyrnon@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 144d

So true! The ones telling us the way things are are clearly the ones to trust! Glory!

C'mon grim reaper! Keep going!

BigDiction@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 145d (2 replies)

Imagining he slammed is head on some very hard or sharp object near the court? It’s pretty difficult to do that much damage on a typical flat court surface falling.

moondoggie@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 145d (1 reply)

It might not have taken much. I hear the Kirk boys are prone to head injuries

moondoggie@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 145d

Totally read that headline wrong. I was thrown off by thinking that photo was Brian Kilmeade

GalacticGrapefruit@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 145d (6 replies)

I love pickleball.

teyrnon@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 145d (5 replies)

What is it?

ProfThadBach@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 145d (3 replies)

All I know is doe not involve pickles.

teyrnon@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 145d (1 reply)

Further down it was explained, like badmitton or tennis but lazier I guess.

It's not a particularly dangerous sport either, don't know how this asshole killed himself doing it, must have been an act of god.

ProfThadBach@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 145d

I was just making a shitty joke. Sorry.

Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club · 1 pts · 145d

It doesn't?
Oh noo ...

GalacticGrapefruit@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 144d

Pickleball is basically badminton played with ping pong paddles. It was named after a dog named Pickle. It's actually pretty fun.

VM_Abrantes@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 145d

Counting or not counting sports-related injuries?

Reygle@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 144d

always love those posts "let's not mock people going to the gym"

a racist dies playing a goofy sport? "haha stay on the couch tard"

y'all are letting your bigotry show

balsoft@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 144d (1 reply)

I don't see a single comment like this here tho? It's either mocking him for his bigotry, wondering what the sport is, or mocking it as a rich-people-goofy-sport (which is still leagues away from "stay on the couch tard").

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 144d

Lots of "it's a fat/lazy/out of shape/etc people's sport", which I noticed a couple hours after my comment were mysteriously not there anymore

synae@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 4 pts · 145d (1 reply)

yes I am bigoted against racists, and you can too

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 145d

and you see all the ableism up and down the thread too? oh wait, you don't because it's against a republican
