"Moderate" Democrats sure love being on their knees.

If he runs for president, he should run as a republican. At least he can pull the overton window towards the center more.

Edit: corrected "overturn"

UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world · 46 pts · 140d (2 replies)

He's going to be out in front with every national media apparatus screaming "Electable" and "Do you want another four years of Trump?"

No idea if he can win, but he's got all the right friends to make it happen. A real Hillary Campaign for 2028.

grue@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 140d

“Do you want another four years of Trump?”

This presupposes a term-limited Trump would be on the ballot anyway. Yes, the anti-American traitors are trying to make that happen, but that doesn't mean we should help them normalize it!

TrickDacy@lemmy.world · -13 pts · 140d

If trump stays past his term I don't think it's due to elections. Like you're not only suggesting that he will be on the ballot, but also Democrats will be cool with it?

Can you just be honest and say you're a fascist please? I'm so fucking sick of people twisting into any shape to say Democrats are essentially worse than Republicans.

Lol sorry but I always have issues with autocorrect on heliboard.

nile_istic@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 140d (2 replies)

Random, but if you use gesture typing in heliboard, they're trying to build their own open-source gesture library. You can help build it (and maybe improve the autocorrect to a degree). I think you go to settings, and there's a tab for "gesture data gathering".

aproposnix@scribe.disroot.org · 3 pts · 140d (1 reply)

Yeah, I think I might be a little too old school. I can't stand gesture writing. I always find it ultra confusing. Maybe caused by my dyslexia?

nile_istic@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 140d

Lol fair enough. My husband is the same, though not dyslexic. I can def imagine dyslexia would make it difficult though.

"Regrets" his words after AIPAC privately showed him how easily they could crush him politically if he didn't change course.

tburkhol@lemmy.world · 29 pts · 140d

Donors will abandon hmi for not supporting Israel. Voters will abandon him for supporting apartheid & genocide.

PP_BOY_@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 140d

But it's antisemitic to say AIPAC has a large influence in US politics.

Uh-oh, just got a notification that my credit score went down.

This is what he felt the need to apologize for:

“A lot of Democrats have looked at the Netanyahu regime and felt like, you know what, we don’t like his trajectory; that it’s time to rethink the U.S. relationship with Israel, especially military support,” Vietor said.

Newsom responded:

“The issue of Bibi (Netanyahu) is interesting because he’s got his own domestic issues. He’s trying to stay out of jail. He’s got an election coming up. He’s potentially on the ropes. He’s got folks, the hard line, that want to annex the West Bank. Friedman and others are talking about it appropriately as sort of an apartheid state.”

Co-host Jon Favreau then pressed him directly:

“Do you think, looking down the road, that the United States should consider maybe rethinking our military support for Israel?”

Newsom answered:

“It breaks my heart, because the current leadership in Israel is walking us down that path where I don’t think you have a choice but that consideration.”

He's not even allowed to say that some day things might hypothetically get bad enough where they may need to consider not funding Israels genocides with a blank check...

He shouldn't hold any sort of political office.

Yet we'll get yelled at for not supporting this scumbag.

quick_snail@feddit.nl · 6 pts · 139d (3 replies)

Nobody that matters will condemn you for supporting a progressive. Fuck this guy.

Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zip · 6 pts · 139d (2 replies)

Just wait till he's the nominee then we get brigaded with "You either vote and support him or you're no better than Hitler!!!"

daychilde@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 139d

The simple truth is if he's an option in a primary, then I'd be voting for a better candidate.

If he's the Democratic option and my choice is him or voting for fascism, well, I'll vote for him in a heartbeat. Because I don't support fascism.

But I'll do what I can with my vote in the primary, first.

quick_snail@feddit.nl · 1 pts · 139d

Trolls like that don't matter.

daychilde@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 139d

In a primary? Nah.

If he made it into the general as the non-fascist candidate? Yeah.

explodicle@sh.itjust.works · -2 pts · 139d

Such a Russian bot thing to say. By calling you not a person, I'm getting you to vote for harm reduction.

frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io · 18 pts · 140d

Unless his reasoning is that it was just apartheid before and is full blown genocide now, he's wrong. They've been running on apartheid my entire life.

kreskin@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 140d

I regret ever considering him to be a viable presidential candidate.

Seems like timing is a bit early to move to "center" for the general, Gavin, seeing as how we haven't had 2028 presidential election primaries yet.

Feels like these politicians are either (1) extremely bad at reading the room or (2) they are making sure they have a space in the next stage of fascist takeover and realize it's pointless to try to appeal to the MASSIVE anti Israel polling in the Democratic party AND this country.

It felt like they were leaning into Liberal Zionism with a taste of "Benjamin Netanyahu is the problem" so they could call it a genocide.

But, now, the slimiest of these politicians like Gavin Newsom are going in complete reverse to his voters and polls. Feels like they don't even have to consider the voters. They're not speaking to us at all.

I try not to assume they are stupid. It's too simple. They are doing this for a selfish reason to maintain some sense of position or at least not be rounded up with the rest of us.
