I regularly smoke big chunks of pork and beef just to shred and mostly freeze so I can later throw on top of stuff. It's a huge upgrade to instant foods. Smoky instant ramen
Our local fire department just did their semi annual BBQ fundraiser. We looked but didn't find the $10 to get any of it. We were thinking of making pulled pork mac and some sandwiches.
Canadian here - It's like our national dish. NOBODY calls it "mac and cheese" up here. Don't think of it as mac and cheese. don't compare it to mac and cheese. It's its own thing that occupies a completely different niche and scratches its own itch. Once you realize it's not meant to compare with real mac and cheese the healing can begin.
Take a Kirkland beef hot dog and finely slice it into half moons, cook them in a saucepan until it is crispy, and then deglaze with milk and add the cheese powder, before mixing in the cooked noodles. Optionally slather it with ketchup and/or sriracha.
Edit: Also president's choice (a no-name brand here in Canada) is objectively better than every other boxed mac and cheese product in existence (I have done blind taste tests) - Galen Weston is still a prick though
I don't know, I tried Kraft dinner again recently after not having had it since I was a kid and it was terrible and not at all what I remembered. The noodles had the wrong consistency, the cheese sauce wasn't even cheesy, and the whole thing had a weird chemical flavor. The presidents choice white cheddar shells are pretty good, but the best boxed mac and cheese are the Matheson ones by the guy from The Bear.
That's all the bacon I put on it. There's about three times that much bacon in it. Sometimes you save a little bit of what you added to sprinkle on top so it makes a better presentation.

There's a great recipe for that in the book "How to Serve Man"

I've always preferred pasta over penis. Just sayin'.

"Put bacon on it" is a pretty universal hack.
...now I want some bacon.
FauxPseudo@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 138d
The veggies and extra dairy were the real hack. Bacon was just because.

Ive always hated box mac and cheese. I can remember the first time I had it because of the sense of betrayal. How could something I love be so foul?

What do you call it then?

Kraft Dinner, or KD.

The only thing I know about this is that if I had a million dollars, I'd be eating more Kraft Dinner.

tastes fine to me. certainly not "foul", just a little salty.

Grab a bag of frozen sweet potatoes and peas and you can really kick it up with minimal effort.
P00ptart@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 138d
Wait till you try it with those veggies and some corned beef.
FauxPseudo@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 138d
I need some brisket so I can make more corned beef.

Yes.

Is that seriously all the bacon you put on it? That is so disappointing.

Etterra@discuss.online · 3 pts · 138d
Okay that's fair. Although personally I prefer it all on top because it keeps it crunchy. Crunchy bacon is always better than non-crunchy bacon to me.
FauxPseudo@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 138d
My wife agree. She had her portion of bacon in cut and on the side.
But she also didn't want any of the other extras. She is a boxed mac purist. Though occasionally she wants some curry powder.
