Dinner got a little strange

Rice with horse radish, two pork chops seasoned with curry powder and cooked with mushrooms in butter and olive oil and topped with cottage cheese and hot sauce. Pretty good after not having eaten all day.

Did you do a marijuana before making this?

Elting@piefed.social · 7 pts · 93d (1 reply)

GASP. Who? Me? What? I? (Maybe) would never.

SippyCup@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 93d

Anyway how is it with rice?

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 1 pts · 93d

This looks more like what gym bros eat to avoid carbs (and I do not know why YouTube keeps showing their recipe videos) than what a stoner would make as a light snack. There's no chocolate or chips.

Not choices I would have made, but it sounds like it would be pretty satisfying after a long day.

Did you season the rice with horseradish? Ive never encountered that combo.

Elting@piefed.social · 6 pts · 93d

I just put it on top of the rice last second. Usually i put horseradish in my mac and cheese, works great there.

This looks like one of those AI pics that look OK at a glance until you realize you can't actually identify any of the objects in it.

faintwhenfree@lemmus.org · 6 pts · 93d

At least I can identify rice.

Ah but notably it's not that cottage cheese is bad. Just being used where it doesn't belong, like desserts.

It is a cheese after all, and this use, while odd, is a place where other cheese could be fine as well.

Sometimes unusual combinations are great, like brie with sushi ginger. I imagine the cottage cheese works well with the spicy hot sauce and horseradish, and the umami of the pork.

I haven’t been able to eat anything except broth for several days

I would eat the fuck outa that

P00ptart@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 93d

I think that's the requirement.

scytale@piefed.zip · 5 pts · 93d

That’s definitely something I would cook up if those were the ingredients available to me. We sometimes do a cheese tsukemen with japanese curry as the dip.

FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 93d

I love eating "strange" things, trying out new combinations. This looks and sounds verily gourmet

Jarix@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 93d (10 replies)

What hot sauce?

VoodooAardvark@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 93d (9 replies)

Haha be sure that’s the one to get clarity on 😆

But for real… what was the hot sauce? You will be judged.

I mean, they're asking about the one thing that might have helped this dish...

Jarix@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 93d (7 replies)

Oh no I quite enjoy the description, I've many similar things and enjoy bizarre dishes. I just like hot sauces as well and was curious if it was something interesting or boring.

Not that boring sauces can't taste good, but they are boring to me if I've had them a thousand times: Tabasco, franks, Valentino, crystal, generic Louisiana hot sauce #100000000000.

As an example I'm a huge fan of just about everything Queen's Majesty puts out, or Heartbeat got sauces are always flavour and not just vinegar and heat

Elting@piefed.social · 4 pts · 93d (1 reply)

Its just cholulah, its my go to for good flavor and medium heat.

Jarix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 93d

Nice nice. I'm also a Cholula fan. Saw some cholula gummies the other day and had to buy them lol they are weird but but nothing special. Have you see Cholula branded salsa in your area? It's decent and worth trying a jar

DokPsy@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 93d

I found a small time bottler with some fucking delicious flavors. Focused on flavor, not heat for the sake of heat, not overly vinegary. https://flavormortis.com/products

Idk if he's doing online orders for it but I found him at a oddities convention booth and every flavor he had was a banger I could already picture what food I'd put it on

VoodooAardvark@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 93d (3 replies)

I think that’s the bottle off to the side - I’ve ruled out cholula, tapatio, and tobacco based on the bit of label showing.

Jarix@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 93d (2 replies)

Well that's awkward, it is Cholula they said

FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 93d

That looks like an abomination, but I will try anything once.

NutinButNet@hilariouschaos.com · 2 pts · 93d

It’s so interesting. It looks sweet yet savory all at once.

InternationalHermit@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 90d

It’s only weird because it’s all in one bowl. If you move the cottage cheese and hot spice to a separate bowl, it is no longer weird, even if you eat both at the same time.
