Decipher this mood for me. Annoyed? Contented? Wanting? Bored?

He is polydactyl on all four paws. He can count to 26.

they seem interested/curious, imo. they're watching what's going on, their ears are perked up & pointing towards different sounds, their tail's doing that little languid dance etc

i'd see if they want to play with a toy or if they want cheek-rubs or something!

edit: also, your cat has thumbs, that's v cute :D

Slow tail curls = happy and interested.

Fast tail whips / tip twitches = irritated.

Darker cat thinks they're having fun, but correctly reads orange cat's annoyance and leaves

Calm but paying attention. Idk where people get irritation from because that tail isn't doing that.

BiteSizedZeitGeist@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 68d

When my wife's cat does that with her tail, I call it "happy hooky tail"

orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 25 pts · 69d

attentive and reactive.

Having a blast chilling with their favourite humans but wondering what you're doing with that smartphone in their face

My vote is mildly annoyed at being filmed. My cat gets irritated when the IR light gets emitted (I think for the autofocus) - he can tell when the camera app is open vs not - I think it shines right in his eyes and it gives him the irrits.

PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 68d

Ya wasps hate my laser autofocus. I don't know if it hurts them or scares them but they jump away when you focus on them.

He looks relaxed and curious

CandleTiger@programming.dev · 12 pts · 69d

Cat was content but something has interrupted its chill and it is ready for the interruption to piss off.

If it was my cat doing that annoyed tail tip twitch and watching everything that moves or gets close, I would be careful of my fingertips.

Content but hopefully play time soon.

toiletobserver@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 69d

You're my human and i like you, but piss off

I once found this image. I don't remember from where:

Hope it helps

"Bro we chillin' or...?"

kionay@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 68d

content, mostly

but you keep moving around and are holding a big rectangle so also a bit of "what are you doing?" whenever you move. but not too much since you're not moving around a lot

they're side-eyeing you when there's movement just to keep a little tab on what's going on around them

no way to know why they're keeping tabs, if they were scared they'd keep you more in field of view

A tail flick like that can indicate mild discomfort/irritability. As my cats aged and their arthritis got worse, I'd see more tail flicks like this.

Mesophar@pawb.social · 0 pts · 69d (2 replies)

I'm thinking this as well, mildly uncomfortable about something

CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works · -2 pts · 69d (1 reply)

Based on all those extra fingers, they're probably mildly uncomfortable with all the inbreeding.

Rocketpoweredgorilla@lemmy.ca · 5 pts · 68d

Inbreeding has nothing to do with it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polydactyl_cat

PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca · 4 pts · 68d

My votes for content. A long fast tail twitch is usually annoyance. This looks like "Chill and surveying" but it's the only context I have and I don't know your cat so this could be wrong.

polydactyl@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 68d

Girl hates cat. She is showing indifferent dominance by not looking at it ever.

WraithGear@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 68d

look like “I tolerate you, but why are you looking at me?”

Curious_Canid@piefed.ca · 3 pts · 69d

Sorry, but I can't see anything past the incredible cuteness.

zurchpet@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 68d

I think it does not like having phone cameras held against its face.

kittenz@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 69d

Honestly I think the cat is just being a cat, they let you know if something is bothering them or if they want something. Also cats don’t really have facial expressions so telling from looks is hard, but if you around a cat enough you can get a feel. Also you can trust a cat to get up and leave if the want to ( if they feel safe)

Consumed with murderous, adorable rage.
