The game is coming out this year, so why didn't they show even the smallest snippet of gameplay? So weird.
picandocodigo@lemmy.world · 38 pts · 71d
There might be a Nintendo Direct specific to this game soon. Remember they did a Star Fox Direct out of nowhere to present that game.
marighost@piefed.social · 11 pts · 71d
They looooove doing individual directs for their big games these days, I'm certain that's what they'll do for it.
I think the little bit they did show looked... off? I think I would have preferred a Twilight Princess remake.
Zoomboingding@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 71d
Plus with next year's Zelda movie they'll do a gameplay/movie trailer wombo combo in like September
nul9o9@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 29 pts · 71d
Love OOT, sitting this one out kinda sucks. But Nintendo is not getting my money.
Dojan@pawb.social · 15 pts · 71d
There will be emulation at some point.
samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 71d
Probably not for many, many years. Certainly nowhere near as fast as with Switch 1. But it is inevitable that it will be playable without a Switch 2 at SOME point in the future.

A month ago, I would have been right there with you. But the Steam Deck RAMpocalypse pricing made me realize that there won't be any new sub-$1000 consoles for a long time. I figured I might as well get a Switch 2 while the price is the lowest it will be in its lifetime so I can play the exclusives that come out on it, because I certainly won't be getting a PS6 or new PC any time soon! The last time I gave Nintendo money was for TotK in May 2023 until I got the Switch 2 last week.
Airfried@piefed.social · 4 pts · 71d
Just beat the recompiled version recently and damn is it impressive! This remake looks very odd, style wise. I'll have to wait but I think I'm fine sitting this one out for now.
Carnelian@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 71d
I wonder how different it will be mechanically from the original. I think it holds up pretty well once you get used to the controls
mrmisses@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 71d
I've been waiting for the next Zelda to buy a switch 2.. but as someone who still has their golden n64 cartridge, I'm not sure this is it
Zoomboingding@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 71d
It's probably getting more of a revamp than Star Fox at least
slimerancher@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 71d
It hasn't been long since Tears of the Kingdom so it might be a while. I hope we get something within couple of years though.
samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 10 pts · 71d
The next Zelda will be a launch title for the Switch 3.
slimerancher@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 71d
Both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom ended up in their list of best selling games, I doubt they will skip a whole generation.
Ilandar@lemmy.today · 3 pts · 71d
It will likely come late in the generation as a bridge to Switch 3, as Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild were.
slimerancher@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 70d
Heh, if we didn't get a new Zelda game for Switch 2, I am going to blame you and @samus12345@sh.itjust.works 😄
samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 71d
Yeah, I was being facetious. It's just gonna be while since TotK was only 3 years ago.
slimerancher@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 71d
Ah, no worries.
MisterDeutsch@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 71d
This is definitely my worry, too.
mrmisses@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 71d
Of right I forgot about that one. I haven't played it, I was/am still kinda tired of the first one after 100%ing it
b34k@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 71d
Just getting thru it myself. Actually just got my last shrines and light roots yesterday and headed to the final battle now.
It’s a joy to play on the Switch2 at 4k60 with very few frame drops.
cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 71d
I did the same for the first one. While the second was definitely fun, I didn't really care for how they reused the old world. Definitely give some time between so you can also hit that nostalgia by revisiting the old places, but with a twist
Datz@szmer.info · 5 pts · 71d
I don't think you should feel obliged to buy NS2.
I skipped the Switch and stuck to 3DS + Steam Deck, and now Switch 2 was a good deal since it covers two console gens.
So you could wait for NS3 in 5 years.
slimerancher@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 70d
This is actually not a bad advice. I did this with PlayStation, and skipped PS4 (and it was such a good generation!), played what I had on PS3, then Switch and then got a PS5. I am still mostly playing PS4 gen games, so plan to wait for PS6 Pro release, 3-4 years into next generation at least, but it still in the future and plans can change based on the features, price and my affordability.
kurotora@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 71d
My honest reaction (didn't saw the direct, just the videos published later). Edit: some format things.
MisterDeutsch@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 71d
I was a little bummed about a remake instead of a new game announcement, but I just remembered I’ve never played any of the N64 lineup. Put me in the “looking forward to it” group!
cattywampas@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 71d
You've never played any N64 game? Not even on NSO?
MisterDeutsch@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 70d
I was a Final Fantasy teen when the N64 came out. I missed the whole generation and came back for GameCube.
I did have the GameCube special edition of Ocarina and Majora’s, but they felt like such a step back from Wind Waker and I was so busy with college that I just shelved it and never looked back.
blockheadjt@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 70d
"Such a step back from Wind Waker"
They're a bit less hand-holdy, you mean. Man, I wish I had that disc. I'd play through them again.
MisterDeutsch@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 70d
By step back, I supposed I mean in art-style. I loved the look of Jet Set Radio and Wind Waker.
Guitar@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 71d
I play through this game at least once a year. Second favorite game of all time, just behind Majora's Mask. Really looking forward to playing this one.

The club of people who like MM over OoT is super small. Glad to see another member in the wild!
cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 71d
I have still never finished it lol. Might have GI throw this on my steam deck.
shweddy@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 71d
Is the switch 2 just the n64dd we never got? When is yoshi story and 1080⁰ dropping does Nintendo even make new games anymore or are they just gonna coast on our nostalgia forever
THE_GR8_MIKE@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 71d
We got the Yoshi game like last week actually. So basically, yes.
Airfried@piefed.social · 6 pts · 71d
Wait until you learn about the first year of Switch with it's many WiiU ports. Barely anyone noticed because barely anyone had a WiiU but Nintendo notoriously reheats cold stuff and then drizzles some extra cheese on it.
slimerancher@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 71d
By new games do you mean new IP?
shweddy@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 71d
Not neccesarily new ip I'd be fine with new plots in older franchises but they aren't even trying
slimerancher@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 71d
There are lots of new games in that case, even if the characters are same, the gameplay and / or story isn't always the same. For instance, take the current Yoshi, Pokopia, Donkey Kong Bananza, Tears of the Kingdom, Fire Emblem, Metroid Prime 4, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, not to mention upcoming Splatoon Raiders, Xenoblade Genesis. They have also been releasing new entries in non-story games like Mario Party, Rhythm Heaven, Switch Sports etc.
Of course, nothing wrong with it if these games don't suit your taste, but saying that Nintendo isn't making anything new is far from the truth though.
Squizzy@lemmy.world · -4 pts · 71d
The scond one. Its why the are so litigious. No one can pirate what they dont create and they know they are not creating
Ilandar@lemmy.today · 9 pts · 71d
I suppose the great thing about growing up with the original version of this game is that I'm wedded to the original look. No remake will ever interest me because of this. It just looks wrong.
Gerudo@lemmy.zip · 9 pts · 71d
I just want a new game in a core franchise.
Zoomboingding@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 71d
Like Mario Kart, or Metroid, or Donkey Kong, or Splatoon, or Fire Emblem, or Xenogears, or a Pokemon game BETTER than the core franchise?
samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 5 pts · 71d
I think "core franchise" here means "3D Mario or Zelda."
Gerudo@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 71d
Yep, I'm STILL waiting on new Star Fox and Fzero too after all these years. My intention wasn't to put down the ones mentioned above, but not even getting a whisper of new Zelda/Mario before getting OOoT and Star Fox remakes is a bummer.
samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 71d
As a Metroid fan, having no new game is sometimes preferable. 😔 But I agree, F-Zero in particular has been neglected for far too long, even longer than Star Fox!
picandocodigo@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 71d
I hope Star Fox is something similar to what Metroid Prime Remastered was for Retro Studios. They used it as a project to get a new team to learn how to make a Metroid Prime. This could be a project to learn how to make Star Fox on Switch 2. So it'll hopefully be a new beginning with more titles in the future following the same style.
I don't think we'll hear about new 3D Mario this year if we didn't hear anything around the movie. Like Zelda, it's probably taking ages because they'll make something proper and big. Mario needs to implement some new game mechanic, who knows what they'll come up with.
Chozo@fedia.io · 2 pts · 71d
We won't get a new F-ZERO until Mario Kart stagnates. Miyamoto once said something to the effect of Nintendo not wanting to have two racing games compete with each other.
Minnels@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 71d
I haven't played since autumn but the new mario kart wasn't great. I was so disappointed :(
Ilandar@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 71d
Can either of those be considered "core" if they are forgotten?
Zoomboingding@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 71d
I'd also like a Mother 4, but you can only ask for so much.
I'd wager Mario gets SOMETHING this year for the 40th anniversary, but it'll be a smaller title this fall/winter. Zelda just got TotK, so we shouldn't expect a big new title for a couple years.
Airfried@piefed.social · 8 pts · 71d
Best 3D Zelda game for me. But boy, do I not fuck with this style. Not at all.
k0e3@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 71d
Yeah it didn't sit well with me either. Hopefully, it'll look better once we get to see more of it in action.
sdcSpade@lemmy.zip · 8 pts · 71d
I wish they had shown just a little more! I'm mostly curious if they're going to tone down the Shadow Temple because with this fidelity it's going to affect the age rating for sure.
samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 10 pts · 71d
Can't wait to see this guy in HD!
sdcSpade@lemmy.zip · 12 pts · 71d
Huh, looks like they already toned it down for the 3DS, it's been too long since I played that version (and only once). He looks like the took a shower before the fight compared to the original.
samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 71d
I noticed that, too. The remake will almost certainly have the blood cleaned up as well, but hopefully he's nightmare-inducing regardless.
sdcSpade@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 71d
cattywampas@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 71d
Why would it affect the rating? Skulls and ghosts and a few blades aren't exactly M for mature material.
sdcSpade@lemmy.zip · 8 pts · 71d
Blood and very direct allusions to torture. The Shadow Temple was strangely unaffected by all other changes to blood color in the game, but it won't be hidden in muddy textures this time.
samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 71d
Was any blood changed other than Ganondorf's at the end of the game?
sdcSpade@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 71d
Some enemies have blood effects and attacking the walls of Jabu Jabu's insides does the same. Those aren't 'changes' in the Ganondorf sense as there is no version where those are red, but they made the conscious decision to have blood effects in a softened form, which I consider a change.
Datz@szmer.info · 7 pts · 71d
I feel old having played the originals of all these remakes coming out, and not being excited anymore. Though in this case, I played OoT 3D instead of the original.
I'm sure kids will like it though. That 3DS remake is 15 years old now.
kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 70d
Oof. The 3DS remake is closer to the original N64 game release than to today. As an N64 kid, that one hit me right in the olds.
slimerancher@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 71d
Kids and older people who didn't have Nintendo growing up and missed on these games.
ericdavidmorris@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 71d
My only play-through of OOT has been the 3DS remake so really looking forward to picking this up again.
sirico@feddit.uk · 5 pts · 71d
Wonder how it'll stack up to the recomp project
samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 8 pts · 71d
I believe this is a full-on remake, so it will probably be pretty different.
MissesAutumnRains@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 5 pts · 71d
Ugh. I will never buy another Nintendo thing if I can avoid it, but I'd be lying if I said this game didn't really test my willpower.
piyuv@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 71d
Buy it second hand! Or buy it if they really nail it and don’t make it a game key card
MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net · 5 pts · 71d
I'm pretty sure Nintendo hasn't published a single key card game.
piyuv@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 71d
Pokopia?
MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net · 2 pts · 71d
Yep. I don't follow Pokémon so I had to double check. There's usually some weaselly stuff going on with Pokémon as it's technically The Pokémon Company and Gamefreaks doing the heavy lifting... but Nintendo did indeed publish Pokopia outside of Japan. No weaseling out of this one.
samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 71d
Nintendo specifically said that Nintendo developed games wouldn't be key cards, so even though it is weaselly, it does follow what they said.
slimerancher@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 70d
Pokémon games while published by Nintendo are pretty much their own things. Even the polish and quality are not always up to the mark of other Nintendo games, but there is no denying that they are still part of Nintendo.
MissesAutumnRains@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 71d
I'd have to really think about it, to be honest. I'm sure buying used sidesteps a lot of the ethics there, but I also have been feeling less console-y lately.
I may just wait a bit and see if other handhelds figure out a solution. Yarr and all that or whatever.
cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 71d
Buy a steam deck, emulate the n64 version. Win win.
MissesAutumnRains@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 1 pts · 71d
I was actually looking into that. I might do that if there's a bit more beefy Steam deck coming over the next year or so. Or maybe I'll grab one of those Lenovo handhelds and throw SteamOS on it. I really wanna try some of these Switch 2 titles, though, so I think I'm gonna have to do my research and learn all the old pirate places again so I can do the ROM thing when the Switch 2 emulation gets figured out.
cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 70d
Switch 2 emulation is a long ways away. Its dirt simple on steam deck, just install emudeck, there's a guide, then download your Roms and dump them in their corresponding folders. And its easy to emulate the n64 version. Deck still has my vote over the competition due to support, repair ability, and hardware overall. Even if it is a few years old at this point.
greenbit@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 70d
So Majora's Mask next makes sense as well. I'd happily go through both with modern controls, the N64 emulation is neat but such a headache
MisterDeutsch@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 70d
My secret wish is that Majora’s Mask is just included in the game. But more likely it’ll be a quick turnaround to capitalize on the live action movie.
costcomuffinman@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 70d
Before the Switch 2 launched, I was determined to hold out for an Ocarina of Time remake before buying one. Now with the increased hardware cost, I’m less certain, but if they completely overhaul the world and gameplay to feel like a new game (like FFVII Remake levels of redone) I might change my tune.
flamekhan@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 70d
I avoided the Switch 2 and opted for an Ally to play PC games. It's tempting to pick one up for this but I just find Nintendos pricing and policies to be really gross and anti-consumer at this point. I'll probably just play the classic version again.
thethrilloftime69@feddit.online · 2 pts · 70d
Ok I'm pretty underwhelmed tbh. It's pretty lame that Nintendos 2 biggest games this year are remakes of games I loved in elementary school.
Having said that.....day 1 purchase for me.
FatVegan@leminal.space · 9 pts · 70d
And people wonder why they make low effort games that cost 80 dollars
TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 71d
OOT is one of my favorite games of all time. I'd be interested in this if I didn't have to buy a Switch to play it. Forcing people to spend several hundred dollars on a device to play your games is so 1991.
Minnels@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 71d
All consoles have exclusives. What do you mean? Some games are even pc exclusive.
I agree that having the possibility to play all games on all consoles/computers would be great but that is not the world we live in. And you are not forced to play everything. Or you could like... Borrow the console and game from a friend just like in 1991.
Jyek@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 70d
Nintendo is the exclusivity king though. Sony was releasing their exclusives to PC until recently. Microsoft releases their games on multiple platforms these days. If you want exclusivity to stop, you have to vote with your wallet. Zelda is my all time favorite franchise and I haven't spent a dime on Nintendo in over 8 years because of their BS.
Minnels@lemmy.zip · 1 pts · 69d
Yes, I agree. I sadly bought the switch 2 in hopes it would be a banger but so far it is just a massive disappointment. I also think exclusives suck but at the same time since it is Nintendo I know they will never ever release any of their stuff to any other format. They are the only ones standing firm on this point.
I also vote with my wallet and believe this is super important and tell others to do the same. But at the same time i guess I am just a sucker Nintendo fanboy since I own pretty much all their consoles.
SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone · -3 pts · 70d
It's gonna be bad
