Just accept your inner American and make it a car park.

sem@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 20 pts · 74d (8 replies)

No not the mall at DC, one of the only car-free places in the USA along with Disney World

dalekcaan@feddit.nl · 16 pts · 74d (1 reply)

Only because the cars at Disney World get their own park

deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz · 4 pts · 74d (5 replies)

Cock fighting arena it is then!

Agent641@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 74d (4 replies)

How many cocks do I have to fight at once?

logi@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 73d (1 reply)

Either one hundred foot one or a hundred one foot ones.

deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz · 5 pts · 73d (1 reply)

You could probably do four if you go middle out.

anomnom@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 73d

Rewilding that ugly pool area would be an amazing project.

CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world · 47 pts · 74d (4 replies)

While I get what you’re putting down, the reflecting pool is (in the not shitty timeline) actually a beautiful piece of art.

Holytimes@sh.itjust.works · 11 pts · 73d (2 replies)

The idea behind it is beautiful. But it's always been sorta ugly and shitty. Trump just took it from a meh 6/10 to a SOILD 2/10.

But the entire point of monuments is the ideas, concepts and representation. Not the actual piece it self.

Simulation6@sopuli.xyz · 10 pts · 73d (1 reply)

I am just amazed he didn't paint TRUMP on the bottom.

sulgoth@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 72d

I doubt he’d go that far. He’d paint it directly on the spire, much more visible.

CheeseNoodle@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 73d

Why not add some secondary side pools joined by underground channels with some very gentle induced flow beneath the surface? Those side pools could act like like living filters and bring some wildlife to boot.

corbindallas@fedinsfw.app · 24 pts · 74d (12 replies)

empty it, pave it over, make a ballroom

another

platinum plated with titanium studs and diamon glass

it's just our childrens futures, who the fuck cares

clearly no fucking body

Carnelian@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 74d (8 replies)

I’m thinking we replace it with a 2,000 foot long AI generated portrait of obama performing lewd acts on trump, and then for the next 100 years we can have a news cycle about democrats wasting money whenever someone suggests restoring it to the original monument

LovableSidekick@lemmy.world · 14 pts · 74d (7 replies)

The USA still being a thing in 100 years is taking a lot for granted.

CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 74d (6 replies)

Haha, humanity surviving the next 100 years is a lot to take for granted. Just because the USA is in the lead in the race to the bottom doesn’t mean the rest of the countries in the world aren’t in the race as well.

LovableSidekick@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 74d (5 replies)

Actually I give a lot more for humanity's chances than this organization we call the United States of America remaining as a unit for another 100 years.

CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 74d (3 replies)

You think the same billionaires that are fucking the US aren’t fucking your country?

LovableSidekick@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 74d (2 replies)

I'm American, I think billionaires are always fucking everybody, and I think the human race has better odds of surviving another 100 years than the USA as an entity. But I don't feel like debating whatever train of thought you're on.

CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 74d

Not a debate - it’s easy to say the US is fucked (rightfully so, we are fucked). My point was it’s happening to almost every single “first world” country right now. Same billionaires, same fucking playbook. Humanity is in a great filter moment and whatever’s left in 100 years is going to be a wasteland

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 73d

i mean extinction generally takes a long time.

Tollana1234567@lemmy.today · 4 pts · 73d (1 reply)

dont you mean GOLD plated, with diamond/zirconium studded along the walls. like the gaudy trump tower rooms.

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 73d

that's clearly goldeen plated

Holytimes@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 73d

Tun it into a skate park for the kids!

SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca · 8 pts · 73d

Well his Iran war resulted in more purchases of solar panels globally than anything any other President has ever done.

fireweed@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 73d (3 replies)

Tadpoles.

The ensuing frog plague upon the capital would be a nice little bonus.

cute_noker@feddit.dk · 11 pts · 73d

I will dress up as moses and scare the shit out of hegseth

fibojoly@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 73d (1 reply)

On the plus side, no more mosquitoes!

fireweed@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 73d

Oh no, that's a separate treatment: salamander larvae. Fortunately they cohabitate with tadpoles quite harmoniously.

MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip · 14 pts · 73d

Btw, Epstein files.

GreenKnight23@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 74d

Trump should be praised for using the reflecting pool to bloom algae. it's forward thinking of him to leverage a biological solution to the carbon greenhouse gas problem and attempt to replenish oxygen in the atmosphere at the same time!

such a stable genius!

bobo@lemmy.ml · 10 pts · 73d (1 reply)

I'm voting for the introduction of shrimp and silver carp!

some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 73d

Oyster Farm has my vote

altphoto@lemmy.today · 8 pts · 74d (4 replies)

What about crabs and snails that clean the surface

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 73d (1 reply)

fuck yeah crabs i changed my mind from pampasgrass

altphoto@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 73d

Real Americans go crabbing. Now it's a national icon.

Peppycito@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 73d

It's not the surface that's green, it's all the insides.

ivanafterall@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 73d

Release mosquitoes to pollinate the reeds.

OldGrayDog@fedinsfw.app · 6 pts · 74d (4 replies)

Instead of dumping chemicals in the pool, they should put a couple thousand algae eating fish in there like you put in your fish tank. Maybe a few goldfish cause old drumpf loves gold things.

iocase@lemmy.zip · 8 pts · 73d (1 reply)

Yeah that's honestly a gigantic missed opportunity. Make it into a massive carp or koi pond...

Dumping chemicals in the reflecting pool meant to, you know, reflect who you are as a person and as a nation, is too fitting for this administration.

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 73d

and like, you can just use 25 cent feeder goldfish. legitimately the local japanese restaurant wanted to buy ours (we were friends with their sushi chef) to use in their koi pond in their restaurant (or just take home) because once they're big, only an expert can tell the difference. a koi is a pretty goldfish basically. ours were named breakfast, lunch, and dinner because our pet oscar refused to eat them and we thought naming them after meals was darkly appropriate and might encourage him to eat them. it worked once., but not twice and then the fish were bigger than him. ours were the size of my foot. or forearm. same size.

Agent641@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 74d (1 reply)

Maybe some gators too

turtlesareneat@piefed.ca · 2 pts · 74d

Couple of coke hippos,

eestileib@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 5 pts · 73d
  • Start aquaculture farm in reflecting pool

  • Raise the shittiest shrimp in the universe

  • Brand them Freedom 250 Prawns

  • Let business partners buy them at huge markup

This is all so easy

littlewonder@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 74d (1 reply)

At this point I'm surprised Trump isn't proposing that we make our flag colors red, white, and algae green.

reddit_sux@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 73d

That's Iran's flag 1

Tollana1234567@lemmy.today · 3 pts · 73d (4 replies)

reeds are invasive though.

RunawayFixer@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 73d

There are native reeds in NA: " three separate lineages occur in North America – one endemic and widespread (the native), one from Europe (the introduced invasive), and one whose nativity is currently unclear which occurs across the southern U.S. from California to Florida and into Mexico and Central America (the ‘Gulf Coast’ type)." https://bugwoodcloud.org/mura/mipn/assets/File/Educational%20Resources/Phragmites%20Field%20Guide.pdf

ivanafterall@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 73d (1 reply)

Fine. Bamboo, then.

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 73d

no i insist on pampasgrass

ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 73d

They could probably find a native cordgrass and plant a perimeter of it around the pool to pretty decent effect I'd say.

supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz · 2 pts · 73d

Why? Water temperature
