It's kinda funny. My wife and I were living together in a committed relationship for about five years. Then her mom said, in passing, "Aren't you worried he doesn't want to buy the cow if he can get the milk for free?" And that just sent her into a tailspin for weeks.
So, about a year later, we got married. And it's been great. Ceremony was an excuse to have a big party with all of our friends. We've got a bunch of pictures all over the house where we can say "Damn, we looked good when we were younger". Given the tax advantages and the fact that we were about to buy a house and have a son anyway, it was the logical move. But it's amusing that this was the straw to break the camel's back, so to speak.
Sounds kind of like the ideal wedding attitude to me. Light on the symbolism, heavy on the "one last rager to remind ourselves that we're actually kinda too old to be doing that anymore".
I actually love the marriage mechanics in Skyrim. if you're interested in someone, you put on an amulet of Mara and go talk to them. If they aren't interested, they ignore it, and there is no social awkwardness. If they are interested in you, they comment on the amulet and ask if you are looking for a partner. You can then say woops, my bad, I didn't realize that's what wearing this meant, or yes I am, are you interested, if so, let's go get married.
I wish real life was that straightforward. No games, no social awkwardness, no guessing.
The whole thing just feels extremely fake. I mean, it's a video game, everything there is fake, but the marriage in particular is something I can't suspend my disbelief enough to accept as being real in the context of the game world.
They even try (poorly) to justify it in a loading screen tip. Basically, "people die young in Skyrim; that's why they'll agree to marry you after you've done them a single minor favor."
Eh, im fine with it personally, clear out all the usual gameified BS.
It makes a certain story mod that says the Nords are homophobic feel like the jarring oddity, given Skyrim was the first in the series to do away with restrictions on marriage, and its not considered abnormal anyway.
Ah, I see your confusion. I'm not saying I have a marriage and a house and want a dragon soul instead, I'm saying I have none but only want the dragon soul.
You can monetize the power shout somehow in this capitalistic society. Worst case shout onlyfans? Even Cameo that app where you pay someone 199$ to say something.
By the time you're Thane of Whiterun you generally have enough to get the house there unless you somehow managed NOT to take every object you had been in the same room as along the way.
I'm not going to say I play to many video games (can you read too many books? Watch too many movies? Eat too many hoagies?) but the home ownership gave it away a little over hatoful boyfriend.

Similar boat. Already had a house, been together for years. Getting married was just for fun and tax benefits. It changed nothing, otherwise.

I never married in Skyrim. Not after probably a thousand of hour gameplay.
Real life no problem. Skyrim never.

Reminds me of the Horga'hn from Star Trek, we should use those in real life too.

Or not, i could do without having an aneyurism from hearing about that stupid jahahmaron ever again.
Also, they never clarified whether the statues give any indicator about gender preference either.

It's because life in Skyrim is so short and brutal. Half the population mysteriously dies every playthrough.

God, that reminds me of Fallout 4 and how after doing one favour for people they just let you completely take over their settlement.

Sometimes its fine to streamline and simplify.

In the mod "The Lost City" they have racism against Redguards that feels really out of place.

Kill 14 more dragons and sell of their scales amd bones.
This requires at least 75 in Speech and many of the perks.

Sure thing, buddy. You're keeping that achievement locked.

Not the marrying type. But if there is a dragon soul around, I'm a bit peckish.
