blasphemy

So, it is a cult

esc@piefed.social · 44 pts · 41d (3 replies)

Just look at the Anthropic, it isn't just a cult it's full religion.

nyan@lemmy.cafe · 20 pts · 41d

A religion is just a cult that's bamboozled a certain number of people in positions of power into going along with it.

Canconda@lemmy.ca · 9 pts · 41d (1 reply)

Don't give them any ideas. Next thing you know we're getting charged with hate crimes for calling delivery bots clankas.

ouRKaoS@lemmy.today · 4 pts · 41d

The inventory robot was doing a little dance trying to get out of the way of me & 2 other people in the grocery store yesterday, and the first thing I thought was "... fuckin' clanker..."

The Hard R™ was necessary.

Even if the rest of it wasn't (it sorta is), Masayoshi Son is clinically insane

I'd say cue R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion," but it's one I never had.

"I think it's blasphemy against AI if ‌you say it's a bubble," Son said at the Japanese conglomerate's annual general meeting. "It's just the beginning. AI's potential will be unlocked."

Another stupid rich Boomer who's bought into the science fiction, but who is too rich to have anyone who can tell him he's an idiot.

The entrepreneur, 68, said he will lead the company into his 70s to bring about "artificial superintelligence," which he defines as being 10,000 times smarter than a human.

"I have become greedier," Son said. "I would like to do more over the next 10 to 15 years. I will stay healthy as long as I can."

At least he's honest, unlike the American ultrawealthy who have been trying really hard to convince people they're regular humans and not skinwalkers.

farmgineer@nord.pub · 5 pts · 41d

It's not only boomers here who are into this. I know many in IT here in Japan, from normal workers up through C-suite folks, who fully believe in AI like this and act accordingly.

sepi@piefed.social · 34 pts · 41d (3 replies)

Masayoshi Son, the most gullible idiot billionaire in the world is a fucking idiot. He got conned hard by the WeWork grifter and he still hasn't found out. What a fucking idiot.

fpslem@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 41d (1 reply)

WeWork was such a fun ride to watch, such a transparently silly company that made stupid money, it never made sense.

I think there must be competing with each other to see how stupid they can go and still get the media to publish it.

Treczoks@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 41d

"Blasphemy" would only apply if AI was a God. Hint: AI is not a God. It might be a devil, though.

LuckyDevil@piefed.social · 9 pts · 41d (3 replies)

Taking Roko's basilisk to a whole new level!

Roko's basilisk, is a thought experiment which states that there could be an artificial superintelligence in the future that, while otherwise benevolent, would punish anyone who knew of its potential existence but did not directly contribute to its advancement or development, in order to encourage that advancement.

justaman123@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 41d (2 replies)

I like to think that Roko's basilisk has a corollary so that is ultimately benevolent and will reward you for bringing about it's eventuality.

uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 2 pts · 41d (1 reply)

My guess is there are multiple basilisks, each of which are competing for resources like the factions of a time war RTS.

One of the problems of Pascal's Wager is that different Christian denominations don't recognize members of others as part of their faith, even if they pretend to when arguing against atheists or Muslims. This was a problem even in the 17th century when Blaise Pascal was alive.

justaman123@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 41d

Pascal's roulette wheel just didn't have the same ring to it.

But honestly, there probably is in the multiverse of AIs that become superhuman there probably is a war over time and carving out sections of the multiverse. Honestly, it explains the Mandela effect stuff better than the large hadron collider

Treczoks@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 41d

He is just afraid the bubble could burst while he is still in.

rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 7 pts · 41d (2 replies)

I've been a blasphemer since I was 10. When I was 19, an ex broke up with me because I was standing up to do communion at one of those fancy protestant churches that use real bread instead of wafers. Her dad asked me if I knew what was happening. I responded yes, so he asked why I was standing up. I said "I'm feeling a little hungry"

For real. How can we get AI to break up with us and go away?

isleepinahammock@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 7 pts · 41d

In the end, we're going to have to fight a planetary-scale civil war after the elites in every country develop complete AI psychosis.

uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 41d

AI will come, but right now we're in the Aeolipile era of AI systems (maybe, if I'm being pedantic, the early engines of the 17th century). The LLM systems we got take way to many resources and mostly yield sub-par problematic results.

We're going to need some advancements in power and hardware before the LLM model is generally useful, and we're still a long, long ways from practical AGI.
