The Democrats are going to investigate your crimes? Are we talking about the same Democrats?

krashmo@lemmy.world · 85 pts · 34d (3 replies)

They investigated last time too. They ran out the clock on all the important stuff and nothing of consequence came of any of it but they technically did do quite a few investigations.

jaybone@lemmy.zip · 38 pts · 34d

Just enough to get a bunch of investigators fired.

TRBoom@lemmy.zip · 28 pts · 34d (1 reply)

Investigations are great for them politically, why wouldn't they?

They sweep the house and set up special commissions investigating all of the wrongdoings very publicly and with much ceremony and somber pomp.

Then either they'll defer the discovered crimes to the justice department to make arrests (these will be ignored) or send impeachment proceedings to the senate (these will be swatted down).

This lets them "do something" without actually making any changes. It will also be coordinated with the media to be the focus of politics for a while and not something dangerous like young anti-capitalist upstarts trying to steal the party they rightfully rigged so long ago.

By making it seem like they're doing something the can also tamper down some of that anti establishment energy that's been boiling over recently.

I hope they fucking fail.

Yeah, that does seem to be the safest bet for the current democratic party

Seems to be paraphrasing:

“If we lose the midterms, heaven forbid, these Democrats — y’all, impeachment isn’t even the real concern,” the Louisiana Republican told a conservative audience on Friday. “They will turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body, and they’ll go after the president’s family, the Cabinet, his donors, friends, half of you in this room will be targeted.”

The House speaker added, “I run the protection program. I’ll take care of you.”

You would have to be a moron to believe Democrats will hold Republicans responsible for anything.

BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 21 pts · 34d (5 replies)

If the Dems don't hold MAGA responsible for their many CRIMES, it's YOUR fault.

Mamdani recently said:

"For far too long our party has seen its job as managing decline instead of delivering material change for working people. It has seen its job as explaining why we cannot instead of showing how we can."

YOU are part of "managing decline," either out of cowardice, or by design.

Politicians are generally lazy and greedy, and if you tell them that you expect nothing from them, give them permission to do nothing, and tell them that we'll do nothing about it, and that's exactly what they'll do - Northing - and they'll go right back to their favorite pastime, Insider Trading.

Last night, 29 year old Democratic Socialist Melat Kiros won her primary over a 15 term incumbent, and said:

"For decades Democrats have failed to meaningfully deliver for working families,” Kiros told POLITICO’s William Steakin late last night following her stunning victory in Colorado’s 1st Congressional District. “We have to root out the corruption and get money out of our politics … It’s about political will — and that means we have to vote out any of the incumbents that are standing in our way by taking that kind of corporate PAC money.”

You are talking about the OLD Democratic Party, the lazy, corrupt losers that helped MAGA gain power, and let them into the White House, TWICE. The MAGA Comedy act of Schmuck & Jeffries are as responsible for that as MAGA itself, and the NEW Democrats that will take over after the Midterms will not will not accept their traditional Corporate Establishment Democratic Identities as Cowardly Weenies. They are being elected to make change, they are taking that charge seriously, and we need to support them with everything we've got.

We need to send the message that we will no longer accept them doing nothing. We already elected them once to do something about MAGA, and they fucked us over, and let MAGA back in. If we take it back again, we expect them to deal with MAGA decisively, crush it, and purge it from our government, and our society.

But instead, your response is: "We know you won't do anything to save us from the MAGA Parasites, but that's okay, we never really expected your help anyway."

Ew, gross. Grow a spine.

cockmushroom@reddthat.com · -2 pts · 33d (2 replies)

Jax@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 33d (1 reply)

I'm not sure how 'motivating action' factors in to the belief that the Democratic party can change. That the Democratic party is changing, especially when looking at the recent wins for the left.

You'd need to help me understand what your point is. If your point is 'Blue MAGA' then I'd have to disagree, I have faith in men like Mamdani and young leftists to change the Democratic party.

MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world · -1 pts · 34d

putting the current administration in prison.

What powers, exactly, do you think they'd have if elected? They can investigate but they do not have the ability to put people in prison. The legislature and judiciary are separate branches.

If we're not stupid enough to refuse to vote again, we're just going to go back to spouting these impossible expectations and then blaming Democrats when they can't do it.

If they don't investigate anything then sure, they deserve to be criticized to hell and back.

Tidesphere@lemmy.world · 31 pts · 34d (7 replies)

However the only way to reform a country is to be realistic

BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 34d (2 replies)

As I've been telling any Democratic Coward/ MAGA Quisling that crosses my path: If that happens, it's your fault.

Statements like that give them permission to do nothing, and tells them that you will do nothing if they do nothing. And that's exactly what they'll do - Nothing. YOU are a "Strongly Worded Letter Democrat."

But the Citizens aren't doing nothing. Were taking the steps required to make the changes we all want. Right now, progressives are beating incumbents in primaries all over the country. In the Midterms, many of them will win, including several flips from MAGA Red to Progressive Blue. And once they're in office, there will be changes in leadership, and a new direction.

Those are steps we need to take, and the first one is already successfully under way. These new Dems are NOT going to sit back while DINO leadership defers to MAGA in everything.

IF you truly want the Dems to stand up to MAGA, then DEMAND that, not give them permission to fail, again.

WanderWisley@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 33d

BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 3 pts · 33d

Not necessarily. There will still be options for most of them, if we have the political will to play HARD BALL.

Also, it's important to remember that these people are literally career criminals. They don't know how to operate legally. Now that we know who they are and what they are up to, we will just prosecute them harshly for their future crimes - and there will be future crimes, they can't help it.

We just have to hound them for their entire lives. And their families. And their businesses. And their neighbors. Make everyone they know regret their association.

Make them American Pariahs. We could create an actual official list of Wanted Pardoned MAGA Criminals, and if any actionable criminal activity by these specific things individuals is uncovered, there is additional bonus rewards for reporting them. Encourage people to monitor them CLOSELY in every aspect of their lives.

If the Democrats take the House and Senate, it will be soul-crushing if they don't pursue a strong liberal-restoration agenda and fiercely prosecute the Republicans for engaging in blatant self dealing.

Thanks to the history I've lived, I don't expect them to, especially as the DNC shows signs of capture, but it will be very sad.

Then the Republicans will get back into office, and the US will fall in earnest, possibly attacking Canada and Greenland when the government bankrupts the state, and eventually ending with China and Europe bombing the snot out of DC.

If we're lucky, by then, chunks of the US will have seceded from the union to form smaller clusters of states, so that the entire nation doesn't have to be conquered by the Allies.

dellish@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 34d

The DNC will be too busy trying to quash the popular Socialist movement, they won't have time for little issues like major crimes being committed by the government.

GraniteM@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 34d

I hate that this is so plausible a scenario. I'd love to be proven wrong, I'd love to see a wave of stronger-left candidates elected in primaries and then to office, and I'd love if the party in general could see what an existential threat the current situation poses, whether one is talking about the level you're talking about or merely forever losing any credibility with their own base assuming some vaguely normal political situation continues from where we are now.

We're over the precipice of the collapse of the American experiment in democracy. It's not impossible to drag us back, but it'll take something heroic to get it done. The alternative is a long plunge down to some very sharp rocks.

Why does everybody assume that the Dems are going to do the same things that fucked them up the last time?

The voters want MAGA to be punished for their crimes, and they are electing people who intend to do that. It's a new world in the Democratic Party. MAGA DINOS are glowing brightly, and we all see who they are. They are as responsible for the rise and resurrection of MAGA as MAGA themselves, and if they don't actively take a redemption path, they are going to be primaried out in humiliating fashion.

They better get on board, or start punching up their resumes for their next job.

the_crotch@sh.itjust.works · 0 pts · 31d (4 replies)

Why does everybody assume that the Dems are going to do the same things that fucked them up the last time?

Because they've lived in this country for more than 10 minutes

BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 0 pts · 31d (3 replies)

If that's the case, then it's YOUR fault. If you've been paying attention, like you imply, you should recognize that there is a powerful new movement in the Democratic Party, and instead of trying to get everybody to surrender in advance, like always, you could support them.

Instead, you'd rather give them permission to fail again, and let them know that you'll accept it, and guess what? They will. They'd rather go back to their Insider Trading hobby than do their jobs, so if you give them permission to ignore us, they happily will.

Instead of accepting their cowardice, you could scare them into doing their jobs, by threatening to primary them, threatening to vote against them, screaming at their phone call people, demanding they do their jobs, OR ELSE!

Or you can be a weak little pissant who tries to tell those who are fighting for YOU, that they are wasting their time.

Now they are seeing consequences. A 15 term do-nothing Rep was just beaten in the primaries by a KID! And there is a lot more of that going on, and it has become apparent to EVERYONE that we are on a new path.

You can be part of the old, weak, cowardly Democratic establishment, and help them crush this new trend, or you can get on board and give it more fuel.

If you don't, then yeah, whatever bad happens is your fault.

BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 32d

There are no Republicans any more. That was just their larval stage, before the morphed into their final form - MAGA. They are ALL MAGAs now.

Reps had some brain cells, but not MAGAs. One of the defining characteristics of every MAGA is their Virtuosic Incompetence. Sure, they'll have plans, but they are used to the primary objective being profit, not success. They don't care if their plans fail, as long as they were able to make money off it.

Look at the Reflecting Pool. A total disaster? Not for Trump, who almost certainly pocketed $10 million of the $14 million dollar cost, and will skim off even more from the repair budget.

Need another example? Consider Trump's career as a Serial Casino Bankrupter. People like to use it to illustrate why he's a bad businessman, but those weren't failures, they were a Business Model. Buy a casino, rape it for every penny of profit, borrow as much as you possibly can, don't pay your bills, stiff your contractors, file for bankruptcy, and stick all your creditors with the bills. And then do it over and over until the courts just won't allow it any more.

He has made an art out of profitable failure, and he'll do the same thing with the MAGA party. Sure, they've got a massive war chest, but do you think he's going to spend it on anyone but himself? He can't even run again, so he's just going to keep that campaign cash, which is reportedly close to a billion bucks. He can't let that go, his mental illness/ OCD won't allow it.

Ultimately, MAGA will hang themselves, long before the Dems get their shit together to do anything about it. I just hope there are a few Dems who will recognize that moment, and capitalize on it, even as the MAGA comedy duo of Schmuck & Jeffries attempts to help them to their feet, as the MAGAs spit on them the entire time. It's got to be a kink for those losers.

BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 34d

That will happen if the Dems continue with the MAGA comedy act of Schmuck & Jeffries. They will play along with MAGA, and act discouraged and outraged that MAGA is pulling these perfectly predictable actions that are easily avoidable, but somehow never are. It's barely excusable when they are the minority, but it is totally inexcusable, incompetence, and political malpractice to allow it when they have the Majority. MAGA manages to do anything they want when they have power, the Dems need to do the same thing.

We don't need leadership that will match them in corruption, we just need leadership that will play HARD BALL, and force MAGA to follow the laws of this country, or be punished like ANY OTHER CITIZEN.
