There's some good stuff coming out of shelter point and a good bourbon from near Vernon, but the latter especially is hard to get even in the same region.
We have a distro problem even when the trade barrier problem is fixed.
do they have the right kind of oak trees up there? i thought the white oak was a crucial source of flavor and basically the thing that makes it whisky at all. theres already been a shortage in the states for a while that forced manufactures to stop making full oak barrels and be more efficient with the wood we have.
You mean the Kentucky bourbon boycott that damaged bourbon producers so badly that one of them is basically out of business while two more have shut down production? That boycott of Kentucky alcohol?
We need our own "Nationalized" version of the service, or maybe we can grass roots croudfund it. Frankly any basic middle man services should be in the hands of the gov. This shit isn't rocket sciance and those service funds should go to them and not some POS stakeholder
our own "Nationalized" version of the service, or maybe we can grass roots [crowdfund] it
Nope. We can't afford the dev and maintenance of our own setup, clown-funding or no. Go with whatever Europe is using, as it's like 50 countries already.
Dev costs?? Bro the groundwork is already known this shit won't cost billions (assuming fuckery doesn't happen) , it provides us jobs and funds our gov, Fuck giving other people this money, it should pay back into the country. I like the EU but I see no reason we can't just copy existing systems and pay Back into ourselves.
Canada was our greatest ally. You don’t threaten your friends. This is the consequences of our own actions. Centrist democrats should have had this moron in prison it wasn’t a game and now the entire world is cutting ties.
At least on mobile, there's no header that says this is the beaverton. And it wasn't until I got a third of the way through the article that I started to realize that this had to be satire of some sort and then had to look at the website name in the address bar.
Edit: I just took another look and there is a header but it is incredibly hard to see. And I'm not entirely sure that that's not on purpose. I'm beginning to really fucking hate these satire sites.
And perhaps you could have read the text underneath that told you it was a satire site?
I mean come the fuck on! Basic due diligence here! I FUCKING TOLD YOU IT WAS A SATIRE SITE! And yet somehow, in what passes for your mind, you blame the satire site for you not reading the thing that told you it was a satire site.
Not to mention the headline is so obviously satire you have to have the reading ability of a tin of sardines to miss it.

Satire or not, boycott the fuck out of my shitty country wherever possible! I would if I didn't live here!

I did not even realize this was a Beaverton article, because are they not doing it already?

Canada should be able to make their own good whisky as they have places at least as desolate and depressing as the Scottish Highlands and islands.
ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca · 10 pts · 42d
We do, we drink Rye.
ZDL@lazysoci.al · 5 pts · 42d
Or we could make other kinds of liquor. Whisky isn't the only (nor even necessarily the best) liquor in the world.
SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 42d
You know whiskey is several types of drink, right?
ZDL@lazysoci.al · -10 pts · 42d
No. No I didn't know that. I had no idea that scotch, bourbon, rye, etc. etc. etc. were different.
Here's a thought, Sparky, in the future don't be an insulting jackass, K? Buy-bye.

Projection is a bad look, my dude. See where the guy wasn't stepping on your dick even a little bit and you responded like he cut off your Camaro.

Why does lemmy.ca, of all instances, have so many fucking dickheads on it?

Scotch, rye, bourbon, vodka etc are all whisky.
ZDL@lazysoci.al · 6 pts · 42d
Vodka is not whisky. Unless you use a bizarre definition of "whisky" that says "any distilled spirit".
dan69@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 42d
Isn’t their whiskey spelled ‘maple syrup’?
Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 42d
We do indeed have maple flavoured whisky.

There are seven types of whiskey, not just bourbon, but Canada makes Bourbon style whisky that actually wins awards over that shit from Kentucky.

Maybe we can name this nationalized service something like "Interac"
Smaile@lemmy.ca · 3 pts · 42d
Do they do credit and similar services? Honestly I straight up forgot it was a Canada only thing
nomecks@lemmy.wtf · 5 pts · 42d
Well you could hook it up to your bank line of credit and get all of the benefits of a credit card without the high interest rate and fees
Smaile@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 42d
Hmmmm, that's a neat idea
Reannlegge@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 42d
A few institutions do but it is interact mastercard hybrid.
Canajan@piefed.ca · 5 pts · 42d
Yes this, Interac works very well and should be expanded to include credit, or as described by another person, link it to a line of credit.
Screw the Americans, we need to continue the push to decouple our economies.

This is what Australia needs to do as well, with our eftpos system.
The only difference between it and the American two structurally is that it hasn’t been verified or implemented for credit payments, only debit.
Reannlegge@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 42d
I think we could even join the EU’s new system that replaces Mastercard/Visa
