The Internet is changing again?

Seems Firefox decided to return to Twitter.

Read:

We got new social media leadership who doesn't have time for morals

Yep. "We value morals, but we value money from the US gov and the MAGA crowd the most 👉👈"

not shocking considering the new ceo is an ai bro

also not shocking>? this

FWIW no donation money to the Mozilla org goes to Firefox development. It goes to everything else, including the AI bro projects and AI company handouts.

i know; i originally donated to mozilla specifically because i liked their goal of turning a page against the hate and bigotry on the internet, especially with mozilla.social but they got rid of that with their latest ceos.

they don't understand that i WANT a progressive company working to build a non ai browser AND make the internet community a better place.

LiamTheBox@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 29d (1 reply)

That honestly suck considering they are Google's pet with the search engine agreement.

XLE@piefed.social · 1 pts · 29d

Very much agreed. I don't think Firefox should take some high moral stance and reject Google money, but they need to develop alternative ways of getting funded, and cut irrelevant spending! That way they can actually start loosening Google's stranglehold on them

The internet is changing again

translation: it is more socially acceptable to be fash now, so we’re courting the fash now

This is the scummy part! Their "reintroduction" reads like a dogwhistle.

joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone · 7 pts · 30d (2 replies)

I wish they could just find a neutral wealthy benefactor so they wouldn't have to worry about pleasing people and just focus on making a better browser for all

cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone · 3 pts · 29d (1 reply)

that wouldn't matter since they have an ai bro as ceo who loves everything about ai.

joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone · 4 pts · 29d

:( why does everything have to go rotten, been using firefox since it was firebird, hate to let it go but that is bad news

eleijeep@piefed.social · 5 pts · 29d

I'm using a fork, so fuck you very much.

kungfuratte@feddit.org · 4 pts · 29d (5 replies)

What's a good Firefox alternative for Android?

catdog@lemmy.ml · 5 pts · 29d (4 replies)

Fennec

xxxb@feddit.org · 2 pts · 29d (3 replies)

well I do aggree, but it is a soft fork of Firefox so if Firefox dies then fennec dies as well.

XLE@piefed.social · 3 pts · 29d (1 reply)

Firefox won't die because its donors (Google and corporate friends) won't let it... But if it does, it'll be Google's call. Nothing you or I can do about it.

xxxb@feddit.org · 1 pts · 28d

well we could fork it and continue developing it. But I think neither of us want tondo that.

BlindPenguin@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 29d

Firefox is big enough that there might be enough traction to create a proper fork, if Firefox ever goes down. Though, technically the same is also true for Chrome, since the system behind it is also open source. It's just a lot of work. There's also still Webkit around. That one is often used for web-tech apps for desktop & of course Apple, so i wonder if it's feasible to make a real browser out of that. Midori comes to mind, idk if they still use it.

eldavi@lemmy.ml · 5 pts · 29d (2 replies)

all corporations either are or want to be.

Carighan@piefed.world · 3 pts · 29d

Yeah the only reason a company is not interested in fascism is because they're jelly they're not included in the money grift. And then they only desperately want to be included.
