Nothing serious, this is for fun. My example was a friend told me you get computer viruses if you use disks that were dropped on the ground outside. His logic was he was told you get sick if you eat stuff off the ground. Sickness is caused by viruses. Computers can get viruses. Computers "eat" floppy disks. So if you put a dirty floppy into a computer you will make it sick by giving it a virus.
Yes it's mostly wrong but you can sorta see the logic...

My 16 year old nephew told me he can't date a girl he likes who is 15 because it's pedophilia if she is not in the same year/grade as you. She's 1 grade below him.
Kids are cooked these days.

I just had a 26 year old tell me a 28 year old was too old for her… it’s not just kids, we all are

My friend told me there was a ghoul who lived in a tree in my neighborhood. He took me there to see it. In the tree, I saw a crazy looking hairy beast, sneaking around behind the branches... It kept saying "Hosssssssssss" menacingly.
Turned out to be his best friend in a gorilla costume. I was only 6. That shit fucked me up.

Hiro Protagonist is a freelance hacker and pizza delivery driver for the Mafia. He meets Y.T. (short for Yours Truly), a young skateboard Kourier (courier), who refers to herself in the third person, during a failed attempt to make a delivery on time. Y.T. completes the delivery on his behalf, and they strike up a partnership, gathering intel and selling it to the CIC.
Within the Metaverse, Hiro is offered a datafile named Snow Crash by a man named Raven, who hints that it is a form of narcotic. Hiro's friend and fellow hacker Da5id views a bitmap image contained in the file, which causes his computer to crash and Da5id to suffer brain damage in the real world. Hiro meets his ex-girlfriend Juanita Marquez, who gives him a database containing a large amount of research compiled by her associate, Lagos. This research posits connections between the virus, ancient Sumerian culture, and the legend of the Tower of Babel. Juanita advises him to be careful and disappears.

Snow crash is one of my favorite books!

Thats hilarious.
I seriously believed BC stood for before Christ until like a year ago. I'm embarrassed for that. Brainwashing is powerful.
Also I think a kid told me the GBA sp can't play GBC games. Well guess what I tried it the other day and it CAN.

I think that does stand for "Before Christ":
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anno_Domini
The modern terms are called Common Era:
Personally, I think we should pick the start of the Holocene as year 0
calliope@retrolemmy.com · 3 pts · 23d
To add on to this, the article on Common Era actually also mentions when different countries started adopting BCE vs BC.
vrek@programming.dev · 4 pts · 22d
Wait... Doesn't bc stand for before christ? I know there's also bce which is before common era which is effective the same thing but just renamed...
bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 22d
Well maybe I'm wrong on both!!
vrek@programming.dev · 2 pts · 22d
I know ad doesn't stand for after death but for anno domain is or something... Its latin for in the year of the lord. That's why it supposed to start when christ was born, not when he died. Otherwise there would be a 31 year gap between bc and ad
duckshuffgoose@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 21d
I was literally taught there was a 31 year gap between the ages, because evangelicals are special
vrek@programming.dev · 1 pts · 21d
Did they give a "name" to those years?
duckshuffgoose@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 18d
I honestly can't recall. Probably?
vrek@programming.dev · 1 pts · 18d
Fair enough.
Korval@lemmy.today · 3 pts · 22d
Maybe you got BC confused with AD? Growing up, I was taught that AD stood for "after death," which is wrong.
bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 22d
Year of the lord iirc

That sex is when you pee on eachother. Which like. That can be involved for some folks if thats your cup of tea but its hardly the definitional component 😅

Wait... So I've been doing it wrong all these years? No wonder she hasn't gotten pregnant!
CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 22d
I’m remembering the “argument” I had with my daughter when she was six about how I thought it was implausible she could get away with wearing someone else’s skin, WHAT ABOUT THE EYE LIDS?? you can’t make that work!!!
vrek@programming.dev · 2 pts · 22d
Also even slight weight changes would be evident. They are slightly lighter, you don't have enough skin to cover you. The are slightly heavier you now are extra flabby with your skin.

One kid put on his dad's respirator and said it was a gas mask. Then he turned on an air compressor and said it was emitting poison gas and told me I would die over night.

Almost as crazy as "fan death"

I was told there is a tree in London that goes all the way to moon. I can see which fairy tale my 9 year old friend still believed now, but 7 year old me believed it for whole summer.
vrek@programming.dev · 1 pts · 21d
Yet some idiot would still hit it with there car and claim they didn't see it.

That's why we only insert floppies into computers in a sleeve, a bit like a disk condom. And hard disks work better anyway

Yeah but then you don't get the same speed
