If voting didn't matter they wouldnt be working so hard to rat fuck the elections.

dessalines@lemmy.ml · 24 pts · 2d (2 replies)

Not really true. Since voting in a capitalist dictatorship makes people have faith in their current system, threatening (and trying) to take it away lets people retreat to a position that capitalists also ultimately approve of and control. Its similar to candidate stacking: if both choices are pro-capitalist, then its strategically beneficial.

Would they rather eliminate voting entirely? Not really, because voting as a rigged game has proven its usefulness historically by giving people the illusion of choice, being a useful spectacle / popularity contest, and building faith in the system. Its really useful in preventing the alternative: which is worker's taking power, and its why all working class states aim to overthrow bourgeios democracy.

Bourgeois democracy is a completely rigged game, and has proven the safest and most reliable shell for capitalist rule, regardless of voting methods or form, whether its in the US, UK, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Australia, etc.

melfie@lemmy.zip · 15 pts · 2d

Giving a toddler a couple approved choices works better than dictating everything. It’s a shame the same technique works so well with a good portion of the adult population.

dessalines@lemmy.ml · 4 pts · 1d

One other thing I wanted to add: Bourgeios democracy / parliamentarism as a form of government is historically far more brutal than even fascist regimes. The UK and US genocided entire continents and killed millions of people under this form of "democracy".

The empire of the rising sun, the nazis, and Italian fascists only tried and failed to do what the UK and US had already acheived, under a far more stable form of government for capitalist-imperialism.

For me it's hard to believe how a sane Person can think that Trump isn't a human desaster compared to any other president in the last decades. And with him the entire party and big parts of the population just went crazy.

electric_nan@lemmy.ml · 21 pts · 2d (3 replies)

Trump didn't appear out of thin air. He is the culmination of US history. Every milquetoast democrat we have elected helped to prepare us for Trump. When Obama refused to prosecute the war-criminals of the Bush regime, and in fact expanded the illegal assassination program, he was a forerunner of Trump. If your only standard is "blue", then you have surrendered any political agency. You are a political non-entity. No one needs court your vote, for it is granted. You guarantee the capitalist agenda with your acquiescence to its illusory constraints.

offspec@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2d

Republicans literally want many of the closest people in my life to be dead for being trans. The only possible way they can win elections is if people don't vote, I don't care if democrats aren't doing themselves any favors, encouraging voter apathy is directly beneficial to Trump and his goons because their base always votes. Cope however you want though.

If you’re from outside the US, then what’s your stake in this?

I don't know maybe the fact that the us is a giant murderous empire that kills thousands(+) every year through direct military action and indirectly through financial warfare and has destroyed multiple countries? Really confirming Americans don't see people outside euroamerika as human.

I was talking to the fuckface saying that both parties are equivalent

Which party destroyed Libya? Which party oversaw and supported the beginning of this current escalation to overt genocide in Palestine? Which party filled Serbia with depleted uranium that continues to have negative effects in health outcomes to this day? Which party oversaw the drone strikes on weddings and innocents in Yemen and across the middle east?

I could keep going and also talk about the bi-partisan enforcement of sanctions that kill thousands(+) every year, or the backsites like Guantanamo that continue to run under both parties and so on.

PrejudicedKettle@lemmy.world · -14 pts · 2d (17 replies)

Ok, then why is it better not to vote? Or are you saying it's better to vote republican?

Which action, in regards to voting, improves this situation?

QinShiHuangsShlong@lemmy.ml · 14 pts · 2d (16 replies)

Voting or not voting in America is irrelevant one is not better than the other. Your vote means nothing you have a uniparty that works for the interest of a ruling class to which they have given 2 names. I often wish Americans would remember how change was truly affected by groups like the Suffragettes, and those that made up movements like the labour movements and civil rights movement etc (hint: it wasn't by voting for 99.9% Hitler). If they would start seeing people outside euroamerika as equal humans that would be nice too but I can only live and hope.

PrejudicedKettle@lemmy.world · -9 pts · 2d (15 replies)

If both are equivalent, then why did you ask me to go fuck myself?

QinShiHuangsShlong@lemmy.ml · 13 pts · 2d

Voting and not voting are equally meaningless actions, pushing voting as something important and the democrats as something to strive for is bullshit that only serves to obscure reality and help perpetuate the status quo that is built on the mass exploitation and murder of those of us outside the empire.

QinShiHuangsShlong@lemmy.ml · 18 pts · 2d (7 replies)

Only if you don't see the people outside the US empire as people.

lastweakness@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d (5 replies)

As an outsider, I'm curious about this. So, the red train is fast for both the people inside the empire and outside the empire. The blue train is fast only for the people outside the empire, where it's just as fast as the red train. To me, it sounds like the blue train is still preferable.

QinShiHuangsShlong@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 1d (4 replies)

The blue train is fast only for the people outside the empire

While probably true on a technicality (although I'd frame it as accelerating slightly slower for Americans rather than not being fast). You also don't seem to take into account that it's the blue train setting the foundation that allows the red train to accelerate as fast as it does, or the fact that through slowing the acceleration for Americans slightly and their general better pr they sustain the system allowing it to continue immiserating hundreds of millions for longer.

Also it's not 2 trains per say but one train implementing a 2 part strategy. (The ratchet effect as people call it).

lastweakness@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 1d (3 replies)

I agree that a revolution is probably the solution there. But until then, would you rather vote for blue or red?

QinShiHuangsShlong@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 13h (2 replies)

I'm not a euroamerikan so whoever Americans vote for has no effect on how America is to me. They can vote Blue Red or Purple for all I care I just wish they'd stop upholding voting for the different colours of the uniparty as something that has any value.

lastweakness@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 13h (1 reply)

That's fair, but it goes against the idea of this post, which seems to be against voting at all. Voting against red feels like the bare minimum to do here. Not voting at all seems actively harmful.

QinShiHuangsShlong@lemmy.ml · 1 pts · 12h

I fully agree with this post though? Voting for Americans is meaningless. It holds no value, whether you vote for the blue half or the red half of the uniparty it's the same interests behind the scenes who own both. Nothing of value has even been won through voting, women's suffrage, civil rights, the modern 8 hour workday and 5 day week, etc. all won through struggle with actual meaning.

What? You don't want to do that yourself? You want me to do it and get myself killed?

eldavi@lemmy.ml · 12 pts · 2d

Neither you nor I have to do it because it's going to be forced upon us as Americans' material living conditions continue to worsen.

The difference is that if we do it ourselves it'll be a lot less traumatic and violent that it will be if it's forced upon us.

EmmiLime@lemmy.ml · 12 pts · 2d (1 reply)

The blue trolley does not move slower, I'd say it accelerates more slowly than when it's blue than red. The train never slows down.

agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works · -10 pts · 2d (1 reply)

That's a lot of words to say move slower. If the train accelerates at rate R when it's red, and rate B when it's blue, and B < R, the trim is slower when it's blue that red.

Calfpupa@lemmy.ml · 6 pts · 2d

Same policies, different jerk.

dessalines@lemmy.ml · 10 pts · 2d

Slower is not a good thing here. US democrats have been in general more competent managers of the US empire, care more about its image internationally, and think more long term.

The fall of the US empire (especially the closing of its 900+ military bases internationally) would bring the greatest benefit to the world, and help resolve one of the greatest contradictions in the world today: inequality between rich and poor countries.

Really, it was just voting? If that's the case, that voting is that important, surely parties would then be forced to intervene in access to voting as a means to have better control over who votes. Good thing that doesn't happen. And as we all know, online discourses have a greater effect on people's decisions than systemic forces.

God knows you weren't even thinking about the systemic forces behind those online discourses and who they reach or appeal to.

Edit: oh and look, it's a German liberal who claims to understand US culture and politics without systemic analysis, how bold and new on Lemmy.
