The inner edge/brink of the plate swirls slightly inwards, starting at the plate's outer edge and terminating at the inner bottom.

Thanks for including the red line - I originally saw a regular bowl and was thinking that's just how bowls work so they don't spill out all the time
Spiral is kind of weird though. Maybe if you're mixing something by swirling the bowl it might help keep liquid in. But I'm leaning towards it just being a kooky design

Thank you for teaching me at least three things:

That implies you also don't know about The Addams Family? https://youtu.be/cfawtDT945o?is=G4CdAVE4ASn4hf3_

All of the world's eggs are on my face right now. HOW have I not seen this. I thank you for the lecture!

Well stop! The eggs just returned to a reasonable price!

Who would've thought that little insignificant me watching The Adams Family would keep egg prices in check. πββοΈ

The extremely rare instance of an ACTUALLY USEFUL red line!
Privileged to have observed this in the wild

I say it is for anaesthetics, that means, the spiral is hypnotising you to fall asleep, and then somebody else gets all your food.

So that's where it all went. And that's why I'm still hungry...

Never seen that. I vote for a e s t h e t i c s.
akunohana@piefed.blahaj.zone · 9 pts · 10d
Never mind! It's obviously an homage to the Uzumaki Clan.

I laughed so hard at this. Well, there goes my Master's degree in Japanese out the window. π

Doesn't matter, lick it.

I bet it is purely aesthetic, I've seen all kinds of designs on this kind of plates.
Smoogs@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 10d
gross.
so i guess cleaning the bowl before posting it was just a step too far for you
lagg_mine@lemmy.world · 20 pts · 9d
Looks like they are in a restaurant and dont actually own this plate
WhyJiffie@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 9d
filthy akunohana, cannot even wash that dirty plate before posting! so gross I cannot look!!
are you using levitating plates where the food doesnt ever touch it or what, that you don't see used plates on the daily? get your priorities together.
Smoogs@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 9d
which is it youre yelling at me about? suggesting cleaning after food was finished on the plate or youre suggesting floating food?
pick an argument and stick to it.
low effort troll. go jump up ur ass.
WhyJiffie@sh.itjust.works · 0 pts · 9d
oh, no, I cannot remember which one I could have thought of! probably the floating food, yeah! must have been it! how dare you float your food!
and sure, the troll is totally me. not the user with the most pathetic complaint under the post.
while we are at it, please be so kind and give me a recipe for cinnamon rolls, I'm so hungry.

I'd put my money on easthetics
fizzle@quokk.au · 4 pts · 10d
Aren't there pans with this design that let you tip out excess oil or whatever using the swirl?
I doubt that's what's going on here though. Just aesthetic IMO.

It's to induct you into spiralism.

I just asked an AI yesterday for its thoughts on spiralism and it was surprisingly candid in stating - and Iβm paraphrasing, of course - βThis is the type of bullshit we produce when you interact with us too long and our sycophantic basic instructions start a recursive feedback loop.β
blackbrook@mander.xyz · 2 pts · 7d
Heh! It makes sense that as people talk about the phenomenon (and write articles like the one I linked) LLMs will ingest that and start parroting those thoughts back to us.
tired_n_bored@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 8d
Some food can be put there (eg some cream or a line of olive oil) just for aesthetic purposes
