My employer doesn't do this (they have too much on their hands as is, being a government agency), but certain positions require security clearance and the Security Service supposedly does quite an invasive search on your social media. The background being that government agencies nowadays are considered to be infiltrated by organized crime.
Fair! I wonder if it also has to do with what you compare with. Some segments, elements, in The Office make me completely disappear mentally. They make me forget my mental illness, those aspects of my life that feel miserable. On the contrary, watching for instance true crime (if that even is entertainment?) pulls me even further down. I can't enjoy it, because for me, it just amplifies the horrors of life. And when it comes to music, I mostly enjoy listening to genres and lyrics that don't obviously reflect life: Blind Guardian, Kraftwerk, Perturbator, Eluveitie, Rhapsody, Aimer.
Heh, I've already started that project too. Sometimes I meet up with mom, sit down with her, I bring my laptop and Canon scanner (LiDE 400), and I let her tell about the photographs that we scan and save. Give the filenames some representative name and date. 😊

I started my hike too late and didn't realize how much quicker it gets dark in the forested mountains. And the Japanese wilderness is grotesquely eerie: really thick bushes, trees so tightly standing you can't walk in between them, which makes you feel trapped. Fortunately, I didn't encounter any beasts, but my heart was beating very fast, because I had heard stories about the Japanese bears tsukinowaguma attacking people.
If it gives them more room to focus on story and other decisive qualities, why not.
