USMC boot camp was the first thing I thought of, "PT showers" in particular. All of the shower heads were turned on and the whole platoon would line up, strip down, and walk through them quickly. That was it, 80 or so dudes "showered" in a minute.
No wonder various illnesses burned through those squad bays like wildfires.
Consult on privacy requirements with appropriate school representative prior to project starting. Gender differences may impact privacy needs — avoid providing too little, especially for girls. Properly positioned partitions add privacy within budget limitations
I had to use divider-less, communal showers in grade school before/after swimming. Not only was there no privacy but the showers were disgusting, and there were no showerheads so you got laserbeam'd by a high pressure, freezing icicle of water. Also you weren't in control of the water yourself. Everyone got in position and then stood there under the sword of Damocles waiting for the gym coach to turn some fucking valve in another room.
Same. I didn't know this was weird till discussing it about 20 years after the fact.
In order to ensure that everyone showered, nobody was allowed to leave the shower area until the entire (boy's half) of the gym class had entered the shower area. You weren't allowed to wear any clothing or bring towels in the shower area. There was just a bunch of freezing cold 12 year olds, hiding their junk in their hands while a gym teacher paced back and forth, surveying the students to ensure everyone was complying with the rules.
It's just the way it was. When you see us old guys in the gym and we have no body shame it's because that's the way we were raised. We had open locker rooms and showered together. The hockey arena I went to had a horse trough for a urinal with a splash guard a out chest high running down the middle. You just didn't piss standing next to other dudes, you were looking another guy straight in the eye as you did it. 😆
These torture devices constitute a Great Filter separating white, cishet, neurotypical men from everyone else across multiple generations. You either adjusted to them, have suppressed the memories entirely, or... you still have weird sex fantasies about these rooms as a means of processing developmental trauma.

Five or six naked men bathing in a circle around one of these is yet another thing I don’t miss about the Marine Corps.

Even the modern guide says,
I wonder how many university athletes they surveyed before reaching that conclusion.

My high school had one of these in the gym locker room. Needless to say, nobody ever showered.

We had one in school. Showers were mandatory and supervised.

These have been in every gym I've ever used, didn't stop anyone from showering.
baggachipz@sh.itjust.works · 8 pts · 23d
That thing would still stop me from showering.
