You just got pulled over by the police for speeding on the highway (50+, stunt driving), what song was blaring in your car?

TANK! by The Seatbelts

if TANK! is playing you're not pulling over, you're making a daring escape that likely involves multiple jumps and driving down at least one staircase

Speeding with ... "50+"? That's like 80km/h ... the minimum speed required to use an Autobahn.

HereIAm@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 7h

The + is doing some very heavy lifting here.

I’ve got a playlist that’s just the music from Forza 2. I renamed it to “speeding ticket” when it landed me one.

Still listen to it while driving sometimes, tempting the fates.

do you mean 50mph over the speed limit, or 50mph.

OP is probably talking about "Stunting". In Canada that is speeding but on another level. Higher fines, suspended license, impounded vehicle.

I don't tend to speed. Once your going cross state the speed limit is 65 miles an hour and I see diminishing returns going over 64 and if your talking fuel efficiency that kinda stops at 55.

That's a long ass song title, is that like the isekai version of elevator music?

village604@adultswim.fan · 2 pts · 20h (3 replies)

It depends on the vehicle. Different engines have different efficiency curves.

For example, my truck is only rated for 27mpg highway. But if I don't exceed 65mph, I can get it up to 40mpg.

Going 55mph doesn't make a noticeable difference in efficiency vs 65.

HubertManne@piefed.social · 1 pts · 19h (2 replies)

that seems strange that you can actually go over so much as usually they do the best they can to post the best number allowable. And yeah the little difference is why im willing to go to 64. Thats the point where I feel going any faster does not appreciably get me faster. yeah on a long trip you can shave off a good chunk but its just not worth it to me at that point.

village604@adultswim.fan · 1 pts · 19h

Yeah, they were super conservative on their efficiency metrics. But I'm not complaining

Nollij@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 14h

Cars in the US have to follow EPA testing methods, and those are the only numbers a seller is allowed to use.

The standard has changed several times over the years, most notably in 2008. Prior to this, the tests were "best case", and were almost impossible to get in the real world. Since then, the tests have become much more "typical use", including factors like air conditioning, high speed (80mph) driving, cold engine, and cold weather. These significantly reduced the published numbers vs previous years.

I could easily see a car rated for 27mpg in the 2008 test also getting 41mpg+ in the 2007 test.
