I bought a pink electric toothbrush

Because it was 2 bucks cheaper than the black electric toothbrush.

I'm 42. Why does this picture look older than me?

disevani@lemmy.world · 23 pts · 2d

Probably thanks to my kitchen counter. I has a little bit of an oldschool vibe to it.

Quicky@piefed.social · 16 pts · 2d

Because of the flash.

Flash use was a lot more prevalent in the compact camera age.

lemmysmash@piefed.social · 6 pts · 1d

They used to make appliances from the same pinkish kind of plastic back then. Or sometimes it was white initially but had been turning yellowish-pinkinsh with time. Both things existed in parallel.

ladicius@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 1d

Fishing for compliments, Mr. Young looking guy, eh?

Uhm, "@Lost_My_Mind"...?

I have the same model, lasts longer than most because its truly sealed, even the charging is magnetic rather than gold contacts.

But don't leave it on the base 24/7, this helps the battery.

disevani@lemmy.world · 16 pts · 2d (2 replies)

Thanks for tip :) I've had the same model before, but it didn't last long because.. well, i lost it. Was pretty satisfied with it tho.

i assume its the oral-b 1000 series, i have the teal one, which seems to be on sale a lot of the times. i bought the replacements heads on line, for pretty cheap, and good quality, albiet it being directly from a german distributor, so its slight difference in fititng, but it works 100%, it works better than the OEM american ones and last longer, these were not the offbrand replacements i bought, it was the official heads for the german variety.

disevani@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 18h

This is the IO2. The replacement heads are pretty expensive for the IO series, afaik. Usually can find them in bulk on sale tho.

Reverendender@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 2d

Also don't drop it from mouth level onto a hard bathroom floor. That gets you a nonfunctional $100 toothbrush.

thenextguy@sh.itjust.works · 17 pts · 2d (1 reply)

I've been trying to add more color in my life and not just automatically buy the black things.

I bought some blue-green golf balls, partly because they were $10 off. But I'm wondering, if I lose them faster than the white ones, did I really save any money?

toynbee@piefed.social · 10 pts · 2d

I never really thought much about color for most of my life, then I had a kid. For as long as they've been able to kind of hold a conversation their default question to get to know someone has been "what's your favorite color?"

My answer was generally blue because I'm male and that's a pretty generic answer for men, but once they got me thinking on the subject, I realized that all of my favorite things were green. My favorite shirt (to the extent that it's now basically disintegrated), my favorite watchband, hell, even my favorite underwear.

So now my favorite color is green and, since the kid knows that, I have a lot more green stuff. It's very sweet that when they go shopping with their mom they see something green and automatically say "we should get that for Dad!"

Inverse pink tax, huh? Nice.

tiramichu@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 1d (4 replies)

I see it a lot when I'm looking at second-hand phones on eBay.

"Girly" colours like rose gold and sage green are always going for less than plain black.

I like girly colours, so that's great for me :)

Second hand tech is probably an anomaly though, because I imagine it's mostly guys who are buying used electronics and this skews the demand.

Bluewing@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1d

Sage is a cool color. But lighter colors like pink just aren't my taste.

Souvenir@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1d

Cars too. Bright pink cars are usually quite cheap.

Obviously, that is a choice. LOL.

Although, I am a 6ft6/2m tall bodybuilder and look like a Russian gangster. There is a part of me that wants to buy a tiny candy pink Japanese kei car. Just because it'd be continually funny seeing people react to me get out of it, them wanting to laugh, but not daring to because I look like I could kick the shit out of them. (I wouldn't. I'm a softie.)

JigglySackles@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d

Lol I went with sage on my newest phone because it was cheaper. I love that the insecurities of others gives me a discount.

vaionko@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 20h

I really couldn't give two shits about the colour of my phone, it's gonna get a case anyway. And that's pretty much the only piece of tech I have that even could have "girly" colours.

P1nkman@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 1d (1 reply)

I have that one! Though, if you read my username, I think you'll understand why lol

thethunderwolf@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 1d

jeese

Maeve@kbin.earth · 7 pts · 2d

Cool. I am pleasantly surprised, having been buying men's products for over a decade, because https://money.usnews.com/money/personal-finance/taxes/articles/the-pink-tax-costs-women-thousands-of-dollars-over-their-lifetimes

TheOctonaut@piefed.zip · 7 pts · 1d

I have the same one! Same colour. I bought it because it was slightly cheaper but also I tend to buy the most colourful version of anything because it helps me spot it and actually use it (ADHD, so if I don't see the thing at some point during the day, it ceases to exist)

southsamurai@sh.itjust.works · 6 pts · 2d

Totally undull, totally nsfw tangent

Back in the day, electric toothbrushes were popular among the local lesbian population.

Apparently, when modified, one could fit them into a strap rig and use them between other lips. I had one used to jokingly threaten me once. It was... intimidating

Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca · 6 pts · 2d

Ribbed for her pleasure.

Pat@feddit.nu · 5 pts · 1d (2 replies)

I have something similar, same brand, different product. Toothpaste can get into every nook and cranny of those. Wash it well, before it dries and solidifies into a mess.

disevani@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d (1 reply)

I noticed that too. Already doing that, but thanks for pointing that out!
Wonder why they put those holes in the replaceable head...

SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca · 2 pts · 1d

To allow to flush out toothpaste with water.

kettuli@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 20h

That’s the least pink pink thing I’ve ever seen.

Zier@fedia.io · 4 pts · 2d (1 reply)

Oh no, your teeth will never get clean. Pink products only work on girls. /s

Good for you on saving money.

666dollarfootlong@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2d

Yup, op is gonna get cooties now. Rip.

sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 1d

I have a pink vape because its easier to spot in low light conditions.

... and possibly also because its funnier to have a pink vape to refer to as a 'nicotine nipple'.

db_null@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 7h (1 reply)

YSK it's super easy to just swap the battery on those. Mine was down to dying every 2-3 days. Got a new battery for 25 bucks, they're easy to find.

The bottom of the charging base acts as the 'screwdriver' of the bottom of the brush. There are videos easy to find online too. Now it lasts 10 days again easily

disevani@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 7h

Good to know! Thanks

MrOtingocni@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2d

It's gonna turn your mouth gay.

Maybe it'll only turn it bi if you don't go for the back of the tongue every time.

Shrugs Meh, there's worse fates, and hey, that's two extra bucks in your pocket.

SPRUNTnsfw@fedinsfw.app · 2 pts · 2d (3 replies)

I have this model of toothbrush and it is by far the worst toothbrush I have ever used, electric or not, in all of my life, hands down.

I hope you brush your teeth in the shower because the toothpaste is not going to stay in your mouth.

PR3CiSiON@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 2d (1 reply)

Just keep your mouth closed?

SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca · 0 pts · 8h

Tollana1234567@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 19h

i brush it closed, also what i do, i have the same one, but different color. i just take the pea-sized tooth paste and smear it on my teeth first let it sit there, and then turn it on.

LadyButterfly@reddthat.com · 2 pts · 9h (1 reply)

I bought that one! The heads were too expensive though so I had to buy a different one. Bloody waste of 40 quid that was.

disevani@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 7h

i bought some in bulk on sale, should last me a lifetime. Still overpriced tho..

arin@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 2d

The bottom looks too much like a vibrator... Hm....

tired_n_bored@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 7h (1 reply)

The manual says that when the battery dies you have to trash the toothbrush. That's false and misleading. If you open it, inside there's a simple rechargeable AA battery.

I love not to let capitalism win over me (at the least I don't want to trash something that works)

disevani@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 7h

Looked it up, and you're right. That's hilariously stupid, but great to know! Thanks :)

Ajel@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d (1 reply)

Hmmmm io2... Io3 forfard has better motor. Then it's the same all through io10. Io2 is the throw-in model.

Tollana1234567@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 19h

those are overpriced though. the 1000, 1500,the one in the pic is 1000, it sufficient for its price.

thethunderwolf@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 1 pts · 1d (1 reply)

ok
