Hate it when they use sidewalk as an extra parking space

Maybe it’s a nitpick, but it’s annoying having to get on road just to walk pass it.

The sidewalk should really be a different material than the road and be labeled, that looks like a parking spot.

hOrni@lemmy.world · 43 pts · 2d (29 replies)

It's a different colour and raised. It's clearly not a parking spot.

Edit. Proof below if anybody else doubts that this is clearly a sidewalk.

plantfanatic@sh.itjust.works · -15 pts · 2d (28 replies)

It’s the same colour, and it doesn’t appear raised in the image.

Op needs to take a better picture showing the issue, because this image makes it look like a perking space. Not helping make their case.

All the other spots have the same different curb material leading into the spot, they did a really good job blending that sidewalk in. Asking for this to happen.

The raised curb just looks like a pained line denoting the stall from here. It could be a handicapped stall.

It's yellow. And You can see the edge bricks. And You can clearly see it's raised on the next row.

SchmidtGenetics@lemmy.world · -12 pts · 2d

Where’s the yellow?

The edge bricks are also the exact same as in front the stalls, those don’t indicate anything.

You’re helping their case, not countering it.

plantfanatic@sh.itjust.works · -18 pts · 2d (17 replies)

You can see from the left part where it meets the road it’s the exact same color of the road.

The sidewalk and road are identical material and colour. Where are you seeing yellow?

hOrni@lemmy.world · 29 pts · 2d (12 replies)

Are You trolling or do You have a bad phone screen or are You colour blind?

plantfanatic@sh.itjust.works · -14 pts · 2d (11 replies)

You said there’s yellow, there is absolutely none in the image, can you provide an image so we can see what you think you see? Funny you resort to insults instead of providing an image to show what you’re taking about.

The materials for the sidewalk and road are identical, not even close to yellow, I provided an image as proof and to show you what I see.

Unnecessary red circle

This is a different color. It's a similar brick but rotated 90° from the road and clearly not the same color...

The other photo also had different color brick for the walk path compared to the road. You may genuinely be color blind, friend.

Here You go. You can see the curbs, side walks and colours. It's faded, because it's old, but it's visible.

grue@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2d

@hOrni@lemmy.world, be nicer. This is a warning.

@plantfanatic@sh.itjust.works... I hate to say it, but he's not wrong to question your screen and/or vision. The difference in color is subtle, but it's there. I wouldn't necessarily call it "yellow;" more like a beige/tan for the walkway vs. gray for the parking lot. At any rate, it's enough to be clear (to me, at least) that it was intended to be a contrasting color.

Here's what I ended up with when I used GIMP's eyedropper tool on the two areas:

newthrowaway20@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 2d (1 reply)

That's a similar brick, but it's clearly a different color and elevated. You might genuinely be color blind if you can't see it.

clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 2d

I have normal color vision and I asked think they are pretty similar, but distinct colors. Maybe it's more clearly different in person.

Dear internet person, I think you may suffer from some form of color blindness.

Paste the exact image you shared into MS paint or any image editor and extract color codes from the two parts.

Sidewalk: yellow
Parking spot: grey

Above commentor: "they're the same colour!"

Good lord, they are a poster on Lemmy not a journalist. Between the photo and their words, I believe them and see the wrong. It isn't some takedown piece in a major newspaper.

plantfanatic@sh.itjust.works · -5 pts · 2d (5 replies)

So people can’t discuss how this mistake could easily be made…?

Does that upset you for people to say the parking lot is actually designed terribly?

apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 2d (4 replies)

By mistake, do you mean the photo taken? I'm referring to how you said the poster should take better pictures to prove an already very obvious point.

SchmidtGenetics@lemmy.world · -3 pts · 2d (3 replies)

The only indicater, the raised curb, is hidden behind the vehicle, everything else they show looks exactly like the other stalls.

It’s not obvious, if it was, the person probably would not have parked there…. Now would they….?

And where I live sometimes handicapped stalls are separated by a curb, so… not obvious the curb even means anything anyways.

So yes, a better picture to show the actual issue would be nice.

newthrowaway20@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2d

It’s not obvious, if it was, the person probably would not have parked there…. Now would they….?

You're giving them the benefit of the doubt. Others are arguing they knew and didn't care. Either way it's wrong. Could it have been designed better? Yes. Would that stop people who still don't care? No.

apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world · 0 pts · 2d

Even if it were obvious to the driver, cars block sidewalks all the time. This is a common problem in all situations.

lmdnw@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 2d (3 replies)

Why aren’t they getting towed?

Ooops@feddit.org · 9 pts · 2d (2 replies)

Same reason cows in India are not forcefully pushed out of the street...

lmdnw@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 2d

Religion?

quick_snail@feddit.nl · 2 pts · 2d

You do realize that cows that stop producing milk are pushed out to live in the street, right?

They usually die from eating plastic shortly thereafter

Else, many are sold to Pakistan for slaughter

Arcanepotato@crazypeople.online · 17 pts · 2d

Wow what terrible design 😬

Manapany@jlai.lu · 13 pts · 2d (1 reply)

It's not a nitpik ! We should stop to be so compliant with bad biaviour.

BillyClark@piefed.social · 4 pts · 2d

Whenever cars obstruct sidewalks, I think about how it affects disabled people.

How does it affect a person in a wheelchair? A sight-impaired person? A person who has difficulty walking but is forced to park further away?

You're right, it's never nitpicking to complain about a person who parks on a sidewalk, or even about a person who partially obstructs a sidewalk, for example, with a massive trailer hitch on their massive eyesore of a pickup truck.

These people might be making somebody else's day much more difficult and stressful, in exchange for saving themselves a few seconds of walking. It's pathetic and it's the actions of a sociopath.

MrMakabar@slrpnk.net · 12 pts · 2d (2 replies)

Walk over it.

pHr34kY@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2d

I've done this. It's fun.

zergtoshi@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2d

Be careful not to crack the windshield while walking over it, because that'd be a real bummer for the car brain.
More importantly: don't get caught ;)

_deleted_@aussie.zone · 9 pts · 2d (2 replies)

Walk over the top. Leave footprints so that they learn from their mistake.

hOrni@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 2d (1 reply)

A ticket would be better than potentially getting into trouble for damaging somebody's car. Call the police or whoever is responsible for things like this in Your country.

explodicle@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 2d

If you do that in my country, the police won't investigate the crime you're reporting, but they'll keep your info on file in case a car is damaged later.

quick_snail@feddit.nl · 5 pts · 2d

Why would you red out their license plate?

AvocadoSandwich@eviltoast.org · 5 pts · 2d

Just walk over it?

jol@discuss.tchncs.de · 4 pts · 2d

If not car park, why car park shaped?? (everything is car park shaped if you're car brained)

FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2d

100%

I will put deodorant on the door handles of a car that does this. Unacceptable.

quick_snail@feddit.nl · 3 pts · 2d

Needs a bollard

Maybe you can find a big broken concrete block and put it in the middle.

Maybe if you find some yellow ribbon trash you can tie it to the block too.

All is solvable for free from trash
