I knew this comments would be "never heard of salt on melon" or the other half that they have always salted their melon. Personally I can eat it either way as it a melon, they delicious.

My mouth salivates at melon cube salad with feta cheese, basil, chili and flakes of salt.

who are you?

FavouriteShapes@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 2d

That sounds really good, but normal salted melon didn't vibe with me. Dedicating the melon to a savoury salad like you suggest is more lawful good though

They salt melons?

velma@sh.itjust.works · 18 pts · 2d (1 reply)

Try sprinkling some Tajin on melon.

cannedtuna@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 2d

celeste@kbin.earth · 8 pts · 2d (2 replies)

i don't know about other melons, but salting watermelon is pretty normal.

Prosciutto and melon is also a classic snack

Sludge@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 1d

I did this as a snack for my two year old last weekend. He loved it.

I put salt on watermelon, it brings out the flavor more.

Elting@piefed.social · 19 pts · 2d (1 reply)

Imagine salt doing to food that thing it does to food.

baggachipz@sh.itjust.works · 8 pts · 2d

Exactly, but lots of people are incredulous about the idea of salt on melon.

BilSabab@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 2d (7 replies)

it was a different time.

Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 2d

Yeah they didn't have Tajín yet

username_1@discuss.tchncs.de · 4 pts · 2d (5 replies)

They don't salt melons anymore?

BilSabab@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 2d (4 replies)

why would you need to salt a melon? it's a melon

username_1@discuss.tchncs.de · 7 pts · 2d (1 reply)

Because it's even better with Morton salt?

BilSabab@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2d

Morton Feldman salt or Morton Subotnick salt though?

cannedtuna@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 2d (1 reply)

Because salt helps draw out the water in the fruit which makes it juicier and taste sweeter. Just a little bit does a lot for it.

Also sweet + salty is a great combo.

Tidbit: the slogan is because Morton said their salt wouldn't cake in high humidity.

Gerudo@lemmy.zip · 5 pts · 2d (2 replies)

Salted watermelon and cantaloupe is delicious, fresh cucumbers are way better with a little salt too.

RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 2d

Cucumbers and tomato..excellent. The melons? Hard nope.

But to each their own.

BilSabab@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d

thats wicked. REPENT!

myyass@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 2d (4 replies)

This is kind of like salt and cayenne pepper on a mango. I thought it was crazy until I tried it. Salt on a watermelon is basically a electrolyte drink.

BilSabab@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1d (3 replies)

what's wrong with you people? watermelon is fine as is

myyass@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1d (2 replies)

The mango thing is a street food, forgot where like salted watermelon, its for high heat places. Sodium, potassium, Magnesium, water, sugar. Natures Pocari Sweat/Gatorade.

myyass@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 1d

My mind went somewhere else with that since I recently watched an episode of The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System lol

BradleyUffner@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 1d

I tried that once after hearing people talk about how good it is. It was NASTY.
