đŸ«€đŸ‘Ž Losing weight for my own physical health and lifespan.

😎👍 Losing weight to gain the confidence to ask a muscle mommy if she'd kindly provide uppies.

RisingSwell@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 10 pts · 13d (1 reply)

If she's a real muscle woman then she can give uppies without me losing weight

GreenKnight23@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 12d

real muscle mommies don't judge and give uppies when uppies are earned.

they also don't compare themselves to persecuted Jews during Nazi rule when asked to take a shot and wear a mask.

Is that Gina Carano, who got fired from the Mandalorian for having bad opinions?

Tedesche@lemmy.world · 29 pts · 12d (19 replies)

Yes. Yes it is.

Edit: Specifically, she was fired for making the following statements:

The actor continued to say, "Because history is edited, most people today don't realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?"

Full disclosure, I've followed her career from all the way back in her UFC and American Gladiators days. I don't think she should have been fired for her words, let alone those words, but I'm curious, who was she calling the nazis in this scenario and what are those political views being so oppressed? Because it feels like there might be more nuance to the story that's being ignored.

NEZ27@lemmy.zip · 27 pts · 12d (4 replies)

Some of the extra nuance is that she routinely would dip her toes in the 'far right' hate cess pool. Disney, being Disney, asked her to dial it back. After enough incidents they cut bait. She was a bit character on a show that had some heat and refused to just not cry about courting Nazis.

Like you gotta know that Star Wars on Disney is going to be focused on kids. And if you're running around pushing conspiracy theories about Jews, you can't be too shocked when they shut it down.

ohulancutash@feddit.uk · 9 pts · 12d

She was about to get her own spin-off show too. What a fuck up.

BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 12d (2 replies)

Walt Disney is rolling around in his grave, or freezer or whatever.

Disney studios was kind of notorious for putting children through the ringer to make shows.

That's why he'd be spinning lol. I do think people forget that he wasn't "out there" because of that. It was quite a popular prejudice of the day. It's still a bit too widespread for my taste.

But Disney studios has a certain reputation for taking kids and turning them into products.

Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 12d

criticized for social media posts that mocked mask wearing during the pandemic and alleged voter fraud during the 2020 presidential election. She also mocked the use of gender pronouns, listing "beep/bop/boop" in her social media bio.

She was making the "people on the right should have free speech" argument, with the most historically inappropriate analogy possible.

a_non_monotonic_function@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 12d

My dude, this was about vaccines and masking and shit. She was literally over there comparing the attempted extermination of multiple groups of people by literal Nazis to taking a quick shot and wearing a 4-in square of fabric on her face.

A public figure trivializing the fucking Holocaust is certainly cause for not renewing a contract.

Yeah, that's been spot on my same take on the situation. I think she should be allowed to have whatever views she wants, regardless of how strongly I disagree with them. That being said, her censorship is more a result of unchecked capitalism than anything else. Disney's only care in the situation is if someone said something to pisse off the people that give them money. Nothing more, nothing less.

jesus christ she was so close to understanding it and now look where her "great leader" has led us.

hansolo@lemmy.today · 4 pts · 11d

Yeah, my parents do the same thing.

It's like we're having the same conversation. Like suddenly they've realised decades of being wrong about tons of things. They're all-in against fascism.

Then they say how Biden was a fascist and rounding up people to murder them (covid vaccines and women's reproductive health). And it's just so far into a mirror universe it's impossible to even dig out from that point.

starik@lemmy.today · 0 pts · 12d (6 replies)

That’s a dumb statement, but it’s pretty tame and no reason to fire someone. This is what people mean when they talk about Woke 1.0

w3ird_sloth@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 12d

Woke 1.0 is such a stupid fucking phrase.

Tedesche@lemmy.world · 8 pts · 12d (4 replies)

By today’s standards, yes, this seems tame. But keep in mind the context. She had made numerous right-wing and fringe statements before (e.g. questioning the efficacy of COVID masks), and this is basically equalizing the treatment of Jews by the Nazis to people making hateful comments about MAGA. It’s a pretty insane and inappropriate comparison. I will say I think she had a point later, when she argued she was discriminated against because the network hadn’t fired other actors who compared Trump to Hitler. Both statements are similarly disrespectful to the victims of one of the worst atrocities in history (although I would also qualify that they’re not equally disrespectful—Trump does at least admire Hitler and arguably aspires to be him).

I guess I’m saying I can understand why they fired her. Part of me doesn’t agree with it—I think people should be allowed to make political statements outside of a work context without risking their jobs—but with our current societal norms siding with corporate image concerns, this does seem in-line with the norms of that approach. I don’t agree with her statements and think she should have had the right to say them without reprisals, but she also has no right to be surprised at the consequences in my view.

Senal@programming.dev · 3 pts · 12d (2 replies)

Define "political statement".

Because it looks like you're putting "this is just like beginning of the holocaust", "non-whites don't deserve human rights" and "let's seriously consider not having a secret police" in the same bracket here.

A statement being a political position doesn't (or rather shouldn't) automatically shield you from the other meanings of that statement and writing that off as all being "corporate image concerns" is insidious.

Tedesche@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 11d (1 reply)

No, you define it.

Should an employee who advocates for abortion rights be able to be fired because their employer doesn’t like the optics of their statement? Should an employee who vouches for a particular political candidate be able to be fired for it? I think we can both agree that a person who advocates for the genocide of a people should be punished, but where do you draw the line? As much as I don’t really care for corporate interests, there are real consequences for companies that continue to employ people with controversial views; why would they want to continue to employ those people when they could win back public favor by firing them?

I don’t think I could define a line between what’s “accepted” political speech that’s protected against employer reprisal and what’s not. Unless we go old stand-bys, such as calls for violence, which are easy to evade. I’m not suggesting this is an easy or even a possible problem to solve; all I meant was that think employees should be protected from firing for reasonable political statements. What “reasonable” is defined as is a much more complicated question, and I concede I don’t have an answer for it.

Senal@programming.dev · 1 pts · 11d

No, you define it.

If im asking you it's because I don't understand your viewpoint , how would me defining it help with that?

Im seeing a wall of text here so I'm going to split them up into something more coherent.

Should an employee who advocates for abortion rights be able to be fired because their employer doesn’t like the optics of their statement?

Should an employee who vouches for a particular political candidate be able to be fired for it?

The answer to both is that it's a legal issue, my personal beliefs don't really factor in to the legal outcome.

I think freedom of speech isn't freedom from consequences so consider the (sometimes legally viable, if not morally) consequences of your actions and act accordingly.

I think we can both agree that a person who advocates for the genocide of a people should be punished, but where do you draw the line?

Thats a very rigid position to take on something that has significant subjective nuance.

I'd evaluate on a case by case basis and make a decision based on what I can live with.

As much as I don’t really care for corporate interests, there are real consequences for companies that continue to employ people with controversial views; why would they want to continue to employ those people when they could win back public favor by firing them?

No idea, not sure how it's relevant but I don't generally care enough to have an opinion I'd be willing to defend.

Im not being dismissive, I genuinely don't give corporate PR tactics that much of my headspace unless I have no choice.

Agreed

I wasnt looking for what "acceptable" political opinions consist of, i was wondering how you defined that category in general.

I ask a variation of this question a lot (check my history for examples).

Im not looking for a fight im just bad at understanding ambiguity in some contexts.

starik@lemmy.today · -4 pts · 12d

Agreed, the anti-mask shit was annoying, and it is ridiculous to compare being criticized for your political views to violent pogroms. But it’s just run of the mill dumb conservative shit. It does more harm than good to get people fired over piddling speech offenses. These people love to play the victim, and this just gives them ammo. She was the victim in this instance.

Fact: athletic women are hot.

surewhynotlem@lemmy.world · 15 pts · 12d (5 replies)

My problem with muscular women is the lifestyle. I don't go to the gym. I don't want to be with someone who has such a strict routine in their life. I want someone to help me kill a pint of Ben and Jerry's while watching Schitts Creek, then go at it until 2am.

Droechai@piefed.blahaj.zone · 9 pts · 12d (2 replies)

What you want is a person working in concrete pouring. Tons of physical work, all on the clock

Knock_Knock_Lemmy_In@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 12d

This gets you useful farm muscles, not aesthetic gym muscles. Most construction site guys look in worse shape than an office worker.

surewhynotlem@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 12d

I think this is why construction workers are so hot..

Yeah, but gawd dayum, back in the day, she was just absurdly hot.

Which isn't to imply age is the problem, but rather to reference a point in time when biting her lip was the only thing I knew about her mouth, and not the idiot things it said.

Reminds me of a story from Germany. An entertainer called Stefan Raab was a bit misogynist when he claimed that "woman boxing" was not really a sport. So he publicly challenged a female boxer (Regina Halmich) for a boxing match in 2001. At the time she was world champion in her class. Didn't go well for him.

He challenged her again in 2007. And lost again. And in 2024 with the same result.
