Funny that it works well to distract from the real extinction we are facing, an absolutely serious, scientifically proven threath to all of humanity: Accelerated climate change if we do not get away now from fossil fuels. A world with 3 ° C warming, which is the path we are on, will not be survivable for technical civilizations. And time is running out. A problem to which AI data centers are only contributing to.
It's 100% gonna be some anti-competitive legislation to strengthen the position of Anthropic and OpenAI against newcomers. Based on bullshit "AI is scary" stories they keep putting out.
They really want us so scared about AI extinction, all while the environment is so fucked we're most likely gonna see a mass extinction event by the end of the century anyway.
AI development has made the situation so much worse that we may not even need to wait till 2100 anymore.
Everytime I hear this US story of 'we need to slow down because everyone is going to fast', I am reminded by Musk saying 'we need to slow down because everyone is going to fast'. Is there a chance China is further ahead of the US then we realise?
The EU is still high on the success of their regulations while they totally miss that they need innovations. Nobody will wait for the EU to approve their world-changing AI.

The “extinction warning” was marketing.

Right idea for the wrong reasons, I guess?
Hard to believe that any AI-rules that the EU can agree on are going to do anything about the actual issues, though.

There are NSFW links to what that stuff can do for free on the side for stupid perverts for free. Imagine what it can do if you pay enough.
