"If they've mastered big-ass triangles, than surely they've achieved world peace and conquered scarcity. Ah well, I guess there's nothing else for us to teach them"

warps away

Honestly amazing that these tech companies are able to make a building full of computers look like an open strip mine. They don't even try to beautify the campuses or anything, just bare dirt and ponds full of acrid water. I live in taconite country and have seen active mining operations put in more care for the communities they invade then big tech does

Based on what I read in the mailing list, Linus doesn't really give any weight to the social/ethical aspects of open source and merely sees it as a means to the end of generating technically better code. Perhaps all he really cared about all this time is that open source allows you to draw from a bigger pool of talent then would be possible with a closed source team. But I'm not Linus so I won't put words in his mouth.

Essentially, my takeaway was if it helps him achieve his goals easier, he's gonna use it. Not surprising coming from him, but incredibly disappointing.

In my area these turtles will hang out on roadsides to sun and lay their eggs. One day, I'm on my way home from work, and I almost rear-end a car stopped on a blind curve. The occupants were in the middle of the road, trying to coax a BIG mama snapper off the road with canoe paddles. I had to tell them that mamma will move on on her own, and all they're doing is making her hunker down.

Fortunately they took my advice and all parties were able to leave with their digits intact. I imagine mama moved on at some point too, once she calming down from being seriously pissed off by some tourists.

Seriously, dealing with Windows OOBE is like walking through a used car lot.

"Decline offer" "Decline offer" "Not right now" <hey, we need to update! See you in 30 minutes!> "Remind me in three days" "Turn off cloud backup" "Yes, I'm really sure" "Decline offer" "Share minimum telemetry" (oh, you thought you could turn that off? Lol. Lmao, even)

I don't know how anyone finds that mess easier than linux.

Unfortunately a lot of people still see him as an outsider tech genius who is standing up to the wealthy liberal elite. This is despite the fact that he is, on paper, the richest person alive. A lot of people I know, family even, curse Bloomberg and Gates as antichrists pulling the strings of the government puppet, despite the fact that Musk, Thiel, Kushner, etc. are literally doing that shit in the open
