Even without the current rash of lettuce etc. Mexicans can get a form of "Montezuma's revenge" (Alamo revenge?) from eating in America, because their guts aren't used to the local bacteria. This can happen any time you travel internationally - especially if you eat any kind of street food.

Jokes aside, your risk is much lower if you avoid pre-washed or pre-cut fruits and veggies. Anything left sitting in its own exuding juices is a shit attack waiting to happen.
