So many things would be better suited to the grocery store having large hoppers of the item that you fill your own containers with. Either the hopper counts out how much is fed through, or you sit the empty container beneath the hopper on a scale, zero it, and then fill and get the weight printed on a little sticker. We have this technology for jelly beans and coffee grounds, but apparently it's far too advanced for anything else
Someone posted "we've had beans and jeans, why not deans?" And then people started posting The Dean. Which is, to date, my favorite Lemmy trend. Sadly, us Deanfearing, good, kind, and deancent Dean Pelton posters are at war with the sick, godless, heretical Dean Winchester posting heathens. It's very sad. Deanversion attempts are being made, but I fear we will have to eradicate them, lest their inDeantrination corrupt the youths.
Honestly, this would be a really cool way to build Cobb houses, which are very environmentally friendly, have fantastic insulation, and are some of our oldest still standing structures, iirc. Good hat and boots (roof with overhang and foundation), 3d printed Cobb walls, and a lime coating, and I could see this really making housing costs a lot lower in certain communities.
Biggest downside to Cobb from my research is just that electrical and plumbing typically needs to be running conduit on top of the wall, instead of inside the wall, if you want the option to upgrade or change it later.
