Don't worry, atmospheric oxygen is too low to make gigantic spiders possible.

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 17 pts · 362d (1 reply)

If giant spiders existed, I could at least make a living the same way I accumulate gold in a fantasy RPG. 🤷‍♂️

kautau@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 362d

Only if you went through the trial of the grasses. Those things would be crazy fast

Tollana1234567@lemmy.today · 8 pts · 362d

but warming is helping certain organisms of the sea to bloom. Jellyfish are actually increasing despite the increase in temperature and pollution.

xylogx@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 362d (5 replies)

Oh great, so the giant spiders will have oxygen tanks?

Death_Equity@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 362d (4 replies)

Only if we give them supplemental oxygen as they lack the ability to manufacture and have little to no engineering education.

pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 362d (3 replies)

they lack the ability to manufacture and have little to no engineering education.

...so far.

If you are so inspired, you can follow Nightvale's example and begin an after-school volunteer 'Teach a Spider to Read, Stop the Madness' campaign.

pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip · 3 pts · 361d

Thank you! I have been "volunteering" there - two days each week - since the City Council thoughtfully invited me to.

Death_Equity@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 362d

We should be fine so long as we don't let the woke liberal leftists communists socialist colleges let spiders in under DEI with funding from Soros.

Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works · 23 pts · 362d (2 replies)

Why aren't the activists leading with this?!

spinne@sh.itjust.works · 7 pts · 362d (1 reply)

It's like they're not even trying to bring others on board!

pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip · 2 pts · 362d

Yes! I want bigger spiders, too. How can I help?

Wait...I might have lost the logic thread, on this one...

tetris11@feddit.uk · 17 pts · 362d (2 replies)

YES. I HAVE BEEN NOTICING.

Psythik@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 362d (1 reply)

I've noticed the opposite problem: spiders are disappearing.

Last summer my balcony was covered them. This year... well if they're around, they're hiding pretty damn well. I can't find a single web this time around.

tetris11@feddit.uk · 3 pts · 362d

I've found 2 big ones this last week - one in the bath, and one under the electrics

TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 362d (3 replies)

yes yes yes but how do we make them smarter, and faster?

MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca · 10 pts · 362d (1 reply)

You’ll need Kern’s nanovirus for that; the virus will facilitate the genetic transfer of knowledge and "Understanding" from one generation to the next.

tetris11@feddit.uk · 5 pts · 362d

Anybody want this computer made of bees? It stinks and is as loud as a jet engine, but it can do 5 Megaflops a second. There might also be a woman in there undergoing some kind of mental breakdown. Just ignore that.

Hubi@feddit.org · 5 pts · 362d

We need to give them wings first

Don't kill spider friends please

portuga@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 362d

I let good spiders roam around my house and kill the annoying blood-sucking bzzzs and other nuisances I don’t live in Australia though

halvar@lemy.lol · 4 pts · 362d

I always just catch them with a box and let them out outside. Our family always did. I'm always stunned at people killing them.

Nikls94@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 362d

looking at Huntsman Spiders 🕷️

You don’t know what you’re talking about mate

jaybone@lemmy.zip · 6 pts · 362d (5 replies)

I’m with you on this. But I wonder at what point you draw the line. A spider the size of a watch? A spider the size of a car? At what point do we prefer the smaller spider?

Naz@sh.itjust.works · 4 pts · 362d (1 reply)

I've read dinner plate is the metric when shoes no longer work and so that's the standard

portuga@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 362d

I heard bananas. Maybe banana-sized leg is where we draw the line?

kameecoding@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 362d

At what point? At all the fucking points, what the fuck is wrong with you people in this thread?

Yeah but not in video game or movie physics, which I assume is what we are talking about in this theoretical scenario.

LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 362d

Aw hell yeah. I love me some spoders

How dare you swear in my Christian household! We don't say the dreaded "s" word in this house!

/S

Jokes aside, I wish we could completely get rid of all bugs and insects without harming the planet, especially spiders.
