Pretty sure luigi is the only one who'd smoke in that group.

AngryishHumanoid@lemmynsfw.com · 64 pts · 351d (21 replies)

Mormons will surprise you there, they'll smoke a blunt while telling you why God doesn't want them to drink caffeinated soda.

NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world · 52 pts · 351d (1 reply)

How do you stop a mormon from drinking all your beer?

Invite two of them.

Hazmatastic@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 351d

I had a friend who would say awkward situations were "worse than Mormons making eye contact at the liquor store," so that tracks lol

Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world · 28 pts · 351d (3 replies)

Kinda like how my buddy who grew up in rural Lancaster, PA said the Amish kids always grew the best weed.

thesohoriots@lemmy.world · 19 pts · 351d

I can only imagine if there’s nothing to do but build barns and agriculture, you’d be damn good at both.

captainlezbian@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 351d

If it's plain weed as the lord provides and they're industrious and plain folk there's no reason not to unless the charter forbids it

NotSteve_@piefed.ca · 2 pts · 351d

Smoking big doinks out in Amish

mkwt@lemmy.world · 18 pts · 351d (1 reply)

The deal with Utah is it's actually only 40% Mormon. And when you have a bunch a kids growing up in the Mormon church, a decently large number of them will crash out. And when they crash out, they tend to crash out pretty hard.

So Utah has large communities for various countercultures and alternative lifestyles. You can visit a random business, and often find both types working together side by side. And it is usually quite obvious which is which from external signs.

crunchy@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 16 pts · 351d

Salt Lake City, despite being home to The Mormon Temple, has a huge number of non-Mormons, and non-religious people in general. Pride there was a lot of fun!

Confused_Emus@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 14 pts · 351d (5 replies)

I used to travel for work and had a couple of rather nice hook-ups with some Utah Mormon guys. Magic underwear and everything.

ETA: Also a guy here. May be relevant context.

Jerb322@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 351d (2 replies)

Not usually, but yeah, in this context.

Now I want to read up on "magic underwear",but I'm a little scared to Google it..

Confused_Emus@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 10 pts · 351d (1 reply)

Temple Garment is the technical name for it.

AmbiguousProps@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 350d

I've always referred to them as Jesus Jumpers

ryedaft@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 351d (1 reply)

I don't really understand the magic underwear thing. Because there's a lot of very gay underwear that doesn't really cover anything while still being clothes, technically. But they wear underwear like Disney's Goofy during sex?

Confused_Emus@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 3 pts · 351d

Oh, no, not worn during sex. It’s a “spiritual armor” kinda thing that’s worn under your regular clothes. I mentioned it because I’m not sure how strict most Mormons are about wearing them.

Hazmatastic@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 351d

Sounds like a mormon i (briefly) dated in high school. Couldn't take a sip of my Arizona bc caffeine, had no problem showing up for a band competition rolling off her ass after a rave the night before. Got super into coke after high school as well, and who knows what else. The logic leaps sound exhausting to keep going.

Last I heard, she was clean and doing good though, happy for her.

WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 351d (2 replies)

My good friend is exmormon and he blows coke constantly

betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 351d (1 reply)

Coke is an unusual name but that's his parents' fault. Did they meet on a mission?

WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 351d

Actually they were originally known as the Cockluvers but when they came to America they shortened it to avoid persecution.

captainlezbian@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 351d

Oh so it's like how Baptists drink all your beer

Trash ass roto

I'd only pass it to Luigi

No, the new guy doesnt get a hit because he killed a Nazi, hes a Nazi himself.

Ceedoestrees@lemmy.world · 13 pts · 351d (9 replies)

You mean Tyler Robinson? Everything I've read says he's an anti-facist. Am I missing something?

Sanctus@lemmy.world · 23 pts · 351d (7 replies)

Tyler is a Groyper. Look that shit up. An opposing right wing gang to TPUSA.

Ceedoestrees@lemmy.world · 31 pts · 351d (6 replies)

I can't find anything linking him to the movement except for a picture of him wearing a meme Halloween costume and a whole lot of wild speculation.

I'm not saying he isn't part of far right subculture, but there's way more available evidence at this time that points to him being anti-fascist.

Long Ass Edit: Post Deep Dive.

Alright.

Messages on gun casings: A lot of news sources are saying, by varying degrees, these are associated with Groypers.

Groypers use memes to obfuscate and soften their horrible, horrible views. I ran searches on symbols of the groyper movement, only looking for results posted more than a week ago. None of those phrases were noted as part of the movement or culture - except in one suspiciously post-edited article that mentioned only the messages on the bullet casings without providing references, despite having citations for everything else in the article. I'm not inferring anything nefarious from that, just pointing it out.

There are more iconic symbols of the movement: The groyper toad, pit vipers, swastikas, that weren't used. However, since Groypers have been largely deplatformed their culture is even more obscure and hard to pin down. I acknowledge it would be difficult to find what might be inside jokes.

Bella Ciao is more difficult to pin down because it's become popular again an both an ironic and an anti-facist message. It could go both ways.

All I can tell is that he was into memes.

The Halloween Costume: It's (potentially) a pepe and it's from 2018. I'm not even going to analyse this.

He was into guns: Not a good point for either side. He hunted. And guns are fun for everyone (as long as they're regulated and operated safely.)

No one seems to know what the hell Tyler Robinson believed: He's described as "political" by his family and "MAGA" by his grandma (who said their whole family is MAGA) without any specific examples. His online presence is null.

He was a registered non voter with no affiliation. Important to note here that Nick Fuentes called on his followers not to vote in recent election. But there are plenty of reasons someone might not vote.

A mysteriously anonymous letter from a "friend" was posted and later redacted by The Guardian, claiming he was left wing. Other second hand anecdotes say he was progressive. He supposedly donated money to Trump, but that was (I think?) discredited as someone else with the same name. He apparently hated Charlie Kirk, but that could go both ways.

Conclusion: I don't fucking know. With partisan politics controlling media, half want him to be a socialist and the other half want him be a right wing extremist. There's a lot of weak evidence pointing to a right wing extremist which could solidify in the coming days, and I'm open to that. I can see this swinging the other way, too.

I could see debating forever and never really understanding why he did it.

Personally, I'm going to keep a eye out for clear citations linking the messages to any movement if nothing else comes out about his motives. Until then I'm not convinced either way.

EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world · 9 pts · 350d (1 reply)

Bella ciao is played in a scene of sniper elite, and could well just be a game the shooter enjoyed honestly.

ChairmanMeow@programming.dev · 3 pts · 350d

It's also a dlc song for Hearts of Iron 4, which in and of itself isn't a game that promotes fascism but there is a weird far-right subculture that does use it to praise stuff like Nazi Germany.

alt_xa_23@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 350d

We should definitely avoid jumping to conclusions at this point

Ceedoestrees@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 349d

Didn't say he was an enemy or a friend. He's a guy I don't know who shot someone I don't like.

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · -2 pts · 350d

He was a registered non voter with no affiliation

in utah that means right wing to far right wing

Formfiller@lemmy.world · 5 pts · 351d

Yea I think he was anti facist raised in a MAGA family. He probably realized how brainwashed they were and it pissed him off.

The guy who killed George Floyd I think. Terrible rotation. Someone there would definitely slobber on the blunt.

I could be wrong but I don't think so, this is the mugshots CNN had in this article https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/03/us/george-floyd-officers-charges/index.html

onslaught545@lemmy.zip · 4 pts · 350d

He's the one that killed the state representatives.

zenitsu@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 349d (2 replies)

Of course people don't know about the MAGA guy who killed a Dem lawmaker and her husband, shot others and was on his way to kill more on his list of 70 people. Really shows the right's grip on the media.

volvoxvsmarla@sopuli.xyz · 1 pts · 349d (1 reply)

It's interesting you point that out. It seems it shows the grip of Reddit and Lemmy as well. Since I am not in the US I am not in touch with their regular news outlets and media. I've never seen the Dem shooter before. Somehow he wasn't that talked about.

zenitsu@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 348d

The right does a much better job of repeating a topic ad nauseum (doesn't help that they also lie profusely). Which successfully creates the illusion that "both sides are equally bad"/"the left is worse", e.g. see how many people know about every file on Hunter Bidens laptop vs what people know about Trump's attempt to steal the 2020 election (fake electors scheme etc), or are even aware of project 2025...

Is it that one of them achieved the goal?

Jayjader@jlai.lu · 5 pts · 350d (1 reply)

Chatting about video games seems to be the best chance at having a fun convo that doesn't turn into dehumanizing groups of people. If we can pull that off, given Luigi's supposed internship at Firaxis, the rotation could scrape by a passable 7/10.

More realistically, a 2 or 3/10 if the weed is really good. Otherwise I don't know if I would even bother.

daannii@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 350d

Nah, the right wing crazies constantly bitch and moan about how all the games are woke now.

It's insufferable.

Kolanaki@pawb.social · 4 pts · 350d

This rotation sucks. I'd just choose to stay sober.
