The shooter was an imbecile regardless.
Based on other reporting, sounds like it's as much likely he thought it would be 'funny' to set the world on fire a bit rather than standing for any particular ideology. Which seems to be a very difficult problem as the usual strategies fall apart since the individuals just jump to an extremist action without any particularly certain indicators beforehand.

Sounds like he was shooting up the general area, and the van included. Maybe not even thinking about it and could have been shooting the back of a van, for all I know.
Given the background of the shooter, I don't think he was thinking too much about the nuanced strategy and results, he was a 4-chan troll turned shooter, with maybe a bit of a libetarian bent, but mostly a generally nihilistic guy losing his mind in the cesspits of discussions.

Could be a mix of the two. Could be an ICE officer who was off duty. We don't even know who they are hiring or who they are redirecting from what agency. Or it could just be someone who wanted to be ICE or were rejected by them.

I find it really fucking weird that ever since Luigi all the killers write something on the bullets and it's supposed to tell us what side they were on. So I'm not saying he wrote this and that he was "anti-ICE", I'm just saying that both sides will no claim he was from the other side. One because of what he supposedly wrote on the bullet, the other because of who he hit.

The world pretty much fell over themselves thinking how awesome the 'deny', 'defend', 'depose' was, so I'm not particularly surprised everyone that follows through with sniping tries to imitate that in some way. Yeah, they took it one step too far there with the fake sniper, but this story has very obviously been falsified.
What seems to have happened here is some far right nutjob killed a bunch of detainees because it's not enough that immigrants get deported, no, they have to fucking die (and if you don't think that's plausible you've not been paying attention). Then the people at ICE decided that the last thing they wanted was for this to increase sympathy for immigrants so they hastily scrawled "ANTI-ICE" (about the least plausible "Fuck you" anyone has ever put on a munition... That'd be like some Tommy in WW2 writing "ANTI-GERMAN" on his grenade... No, you write something funny like "Catch!") on single cartridge out of a stack of five, using a sharpie from the front desk, because they saw it in the news recently with the Charlie Kirk stuff and figured it would seem plausible.
