It has been suggested that this article be split out into articles titled False or misleading statements by Donald Trump (first term), False or misleading statements by Donald Trump (between terms) and False or misleading statements by Donald Trump (second term). (Discuss) (October 2025)
Even though it's plainly obvious that the Carney has nothing to do with that commercial, and the commercial was just a regan quote (and ok maybe the one thing dougie did that i think is good). Would apologizing for that costs us anything. Like if it lowers the taxes, that seems good for canada.
Yes i missed the part where it wasn't confirmed when i skimmed the article. That said when Ford canceled the ad there was a lot of speculation that the canceling was in part to help the feds negotiate a deal.
IMO the most elbows up move would be getting Ford to continue to play the ad. A fucking TV commercial is peanuts compared to repeated threats of annexation we have been getting.
If that was the intention of the ad then Ford should have saved the taxpayers money and only ran it for a week, not for months as it was supposed to do.
I'd also argue that the bigger focus of the ad would be to get americans thinking about the tariff strategy their leader is using and promote change from within America, the headlines and angering the old man is are secondary effects of the ad.
They don't pay for an advertisement once it's cancelled. Do you think they paid 100% upfront before the first ad went out? By canceling, he is saving them money.
I'd be very surprised if there was not a cancelation fee. If it was supposed to be a little stunt why even plan it for months in the first place? I also still stand by that less time on air is less time americans get to hear Reagan say this isn't the right way to do business as a country.
There is a difference between "planning it to run for months" and "placing the order for months of advertising in advance".
Having worked in broadcasting, I can confidently say it is common for an ad buy to be modified multiple times during its run.
And the advertiser often doesn't order the entire run up-front. They will schedule it a week or 2 at a time and adjust based on what results they are seeing.
There's sorry (regret) and sorry (it's too bad) and sorry (this discussion is over) and sorry (I am about to do something that one of us will regret)...

Trump also said the Reagan speech used was fake.

I don’t want trade with the US, it’s just American corporations taking advantage of us and raping my land.

Most Canadians agree
But, because of how entwined our economies have become since WW1 (or earlier), it's not something that can be undone instantly.

Doesn’t matter if we hit the switch today or tomorrow, people aren’t going to switch until they have to but every day we wait makes things worse.

Carney says he did, I am sure it was a “sorry you feel like that” or something along those lines.

Very elbows up attitude right there. Granted it is canadian nature to say sorry even if we aren't actually sorry

The ad did what it wanted to do, no need to keep it running.
