I want to live in a country where “cats jumping out” is what they’re warning people about!

tetris11@feddit.uk · 16 pts · 268d (3 replies)

Dunno, you're walking down the street having a great day when suddenly two shorthairs spring up behind you, a third drops down from a tree above, brandishing a knife to your chin and hissing promises of death and retribution at you

RogueBanana@piefed.zip · 11 pts · 268d

Dont threaten me with a good time

brian@piefed.social · 8 pts · 268d

I’m still not seeing the downside here, because…well…cats.

BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 7 pts · 267d

Just go Pss, Pss, Pss, and they'll either run away, or flop down for some pets.

Cephalotrocity@biglemmowski.win · 25 pts · 268d (2 replies)

All I'm seeing is a warning about an army of super-cats flying ahead.

Everybody came here to say the same thing: I need that sign in my house.

tatterdemalion@programming.dev · 6 pts · 267d

Hell I want it tattooed on me

Wilco@lemmy.zip · 9 pts · 268d

Cat ambush predator packs.

FuglyDuck@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 268d

In Paris, there was a spat of feral colonies going after tourists a while back.

Well. Once.

But I still think it’s funny to imagine it being a bigger problem.

mathuin@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 267d

I would like to buy one of those signs, how hard would that be?

HowAbt2day@futurology.today · 7 pts · 268d (8 replies)

A bunch of crows is called a gang iirc, is there a term for multiple cats jumping out at you?

Update: damn I learned a lot from you guys with the google and whatnot.

maniclucky@lemmy.world · 17 pts · 268d (1 reply)

A group of crows is a murder, and ravens are an unkindness. Smart black birds were not named with politeness.

Jimbo@pawb.social · 3 pts · 268d

The unpoliteness was likely mutual

Secret_Music@piefed.blahaj.zone · 13 pts · 268d (1 reply)

According to this random website (just one of the first results on Ecosia): "While clowder is the most common collective noun for cats, a group of cats is also called a cluster, litter (kittens of the same mother), destruction (wild cats), or nuisance."

First time I've heard any of those apart from litter, personally. There's also a pride of lions.

FuglyDuck@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 268d

feral cats are a colony, too.

psx_crab@lemmy.zip · 8 pts · 268d

An ambush of cats?

MyNameIsRichard@lemmy.ml · 8 pts · 268d

A chaos of cats

pruwybn@discuss.tchncs.de · 5 pts · 267d

A cataclysm

HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world · 4 pts · 267d

want sign

jeffkingdom@programming.dev · 4 pts · 267d

I'm confused. Are these warning signs or advertisements?

bassad@jlai.lu · 4 pts · 267d

A cat spawning from a bush made me fall from my bike once, I guess I would have paid more attention with a sign like that

url@feddit.fr · 3 pts · 268d

Not one , 3 of them! Scarry

I've been in Japan a decade and don't recall ever seeing one of these. It says ネコ飛出し注意 cat jumping out caution.

Pazintach@discuss.tchncs.de · 2 pts · 262d

Saw another one of these in a Japanese Program. It does seem like they have these sings everywhere!

God [...] flying out [...]

Warning

Hey I can read Kanji xD

samus12345@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 267d (4 replies)

"God"? I think something was lost in translation!

DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works · 1 pts · 267d (3 replies)

The radical 礻means god, when you see that radical being used, its usually a character that related to spirituality like 福 is fortune, which is related to the concept of the supernatural.

Ashtear@piefed.social · 5 pts · 267d (2 replies)

Here it's a katakana character purely used for the sound, in this case "ne," the first half of neko, for cat.

DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works · 3 pts · 267d (1 reply)

But I wanna worship our lord and savior, the Holy Cats

Ashtear@piefed.social · 2 pts · 267d

I mean, this is the Internet, nothing stopping you from that lol
