“More money than taste”
Some people have millions to spend on decoration, but they don’t really know how to make it look good. They may have seen a few pictures of a fantasy palace in a movie, but that’s about it.
I would have hired an interior designer and an artist to design the place according to some of my broad guidelines. I may have a general idea of what I like, but I would leave the details to professionals who know what they are doing.
At first I didn't think it was that bad, like ok its ritzy and pompous af. But one of the bedroom photos started giving me vertigo... every surface of these rooms is filled with repeating textures and clashing colors, and enough busts to make OnlyFans feel jealous.
They just have to find the one guy that is a massive Michigan football stan, absolutely tasteless, who recently came into much more money than they know what to do with
For a penthouse in downtown? It's steep, but not entirely out of the question. There's a nearby 2200sqft unit that sold for about $900/sqft, so $1400/sqft for a massive penthouse isn't unbelievable. I doubt they'll quite get that, but wouldn't be shocked if it sells for over $5mil.
I initially thought it looked like a conceited villain's lair, but there's so much stuff crammed in that people would have trouble simply moving around, let alone duking it out in the final showdown.
Although, I like the number of busts--there's always something available to hurl no matter which room you're in.
The idea of villains being high-modernist minimalists is largely a product of Ian Fleming‘s biases against modernist architecture (he even named a villain after the architect Ernő Goldfinger).
It’s let down by the conservative colour palette. Replace some of that wood with chrome and add some more saturated colours and it crosses over into hyperpop/vaporwave maximalism.
My eyes hurt after looking at that. Was thinking I liked the kitchen ok, much more restrained & actually good looking until I got to the picture showing the enormous statue standing on the kitchen island.

I had no idea what the opposite of my taste would look like until now. What do you call this style? Gaudy?

Gaudy or ostentatious maybe?
I like the blue and gold couch in the theoretical sense as a focal point for a less busy room. Busy maybe as well to describe the style?

Maybe just: too much.

Garrish and/or Demented, in the dementia sense of demented.
This really is just the modern equivalent of a Pharaoh's tomb, as if they can take all of stupid tchotchskes with them, into the afterlife.

I'd really like to see the enhanced version of the sink plaque.
Would you prefer the haunted wax statue maid or menacing animation robot maid?

Imagine having a hangover and looking at that ceiling. My head hurts just thinking about it.

Some of it might make sense if it was an older, historic home, but this was built in 2002!

It took me a while to get through the pictures (the bottle says to only take 8 Tylenol per day), but I particularly appreciated this shot:
I'd heard of drinking a nightcap, of course, but keeping a decanter of curacao in the bathroom?
captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works · 10 pts · 240d
it's entirely possible somebody decanted their Scope.
Shave_MyBeever@lemmy.world · 7 pts · 240d
Some mouthwashes do contain alcohol, although the Curaçao would be preferable.

That could just be Listerine, but the owner probably does just chug it every morning.

Is real estate that crazy in Ann Arbor that $7 million for 5,000 sq.ft. makes sense?

Is... is it a crime to rig an AI bot to spam these idiots inboxes with fake identities professing sincere interest?
So that these delusional morons end up waiting and waiting, untill its too late to drop the price, and now they just have to liquidate?
... Genuine question, can you legally do that?
