BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca · 16 pts · 239d (2 replies)

Totally but the levels have to be exactly the same with the same background noises and a lot of quacking on top.

flambonkscious@sh.itjust.works · 2 pts · 238d (1 reply)

There's probably already a mod?

BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca · 1 pts · 238d

Yeah there's a good chance, Quake has thousands of mods.

I really, really, really like this image

The original Quake has aged pretty well, I've played a lot of it on my Anbernic RG35XX, and the controls map to the gamepad perfectly.

problembasedperson@lemmy.dbzer0.com · 2 pts · 239d

I've been playing the KEX engine remaster and it's pretty good, the new episode has some cool levels.

I haven't played Quake in a long time. I really loved that game. Also Quake 2. After that it went online, and I didn't like it. I just want to play alone.

MacNCheezus@lemmy.today · 5 pts · 238d (2 replies)

Well, get yourself a modern sourceport like vkQuake or DarkPlaces, and then download this mod: https://www.moddb.com/mods/arcane-dimensions

You won't regret it. This is Quake as if it was made in 2016 instead of 1996. Massive levels. Stunning architecture. Quad shotgun.

BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 3 pts · 238d (1 reply)

This looks interesting, thanks!

MacNCheezus@lemmy.today · 3 pts · 238d

I hope you have as good a time with this as I did.

sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml · 2 pts · 238d

Real shit. FPS was great until I had to fight other people

chunes@lemmy.world · 1 pts · 238d

I bought Quake 3 not knowing it had no campaign and I was so disappointed

I would hate to see a Berserker Duck.

BagOfHeavyStones@piefed.social · 2 pts · 239d (3 replies)

Used to love going to the console in quake 1 and setting gravity to 1. Each jump and you could hit the roof.

BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 2 pts · 238d (2 replies)

There was that one hidden level with low gravity, it was one of my favorites. You had to keep leaping up and pounding the shambler on top of the structure.

BagOfHeavyStones@piefed.social · 2 pts · 238d (1 reply)

Never found that one.

Back then I was a dialup ISP I used to host network games of Quake 1 with my customers. At the peak though we found the Xylogics Remote Annex couldn't handle it, and it rebooted mid game.

BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today · 1 pts · 238d

I had no idea how to do any of that, so I was always just a solo player. In the very rare occasions that I somehow fell into a multi-player battle in some FPS game, I would end up cowering in a corner like a rabbit, trying to figure out what to do.

I'm a monster on my own though.
