Federal immigration officers are asserting sweeping power to forcibly enter people’s homes without a judge’s warrant, according to an internal Immigration and Customs Enforcement memo obtained by The Associated Press, marking a sharp reversal of longstanding guidance meant to respect constitutional limits on government searches.
The memo authorizes ICE officers to use force to enter a residence based solely on a more narrow administrative warrant to arrest someone with a final order of removal, a move that advocates say collides with Fourth Amendment protections and upends years of advice given to immigrant communities.

I wonder how well this new policy will jibe with the castle doctrine?

Surely it will work, right? All those school shootings and accidental murders, they were for this. To stand up to tyranny. Surely Americans won't just roll over/cheer like they always do. Surely not. Lmao

Watching ICE target communities that have intentionally been disarmed as a result of mass shootings: lmao why don’t these dumbasses just shoot someone

I just hope they don't go too hard with the tweets and protests! They're getting results! And democratic senators writing letters! Oof!
/s
(I support the protesters, the ICE victims, and NOT ICE, but day after day it just gets worse, and that's all they're doing - tweeting and marching - as ICE commit atrocity after atrocity).

I agree. Other vital actions need to take place. However, they are doing vital work. Not everyone can pry secrets out of their digital assets. Not everyone can slip into the homes of their masters while they sleep. No, we very much need people documenting what’s happening. We need people to helping their neighbors when ditched in poor weather by thugs.

We already know how. It won't.
When ingroups do it, its castle doctrine. When outgroups do it its terrorism. There is no law in the US. Just an uncivilized savage land now.

well - considering the “assassination attempt” on Trump, and how anyone speaking against the regime is a “domestic terrorist,” my money is on the idea that very soon there will be some ICE agents that have an encounter with “ANTIFA thugs,” and this is where martial law will be declared.
Trump is insane right now, and he is big mad that he’s not getting his way in Switzerland; he’s getting bullied right back, and he’s starting to see that people are laughing at him.
SinAdjetivos@lemmy.world · 6 pts · 206d
If that was the goal it would've been false flagged already. The goal really is just a simple as they don't think their actions will have consequences, and so far they've been largely correct.
itistime@infosec.pub · 3 pts · 206d
There already have been false flags. Just ones that sought to incite conflicts between protesters and the boots.
They want blood soaked antifa bodies. It will help to normalize the coming violence to their base. They will frame how it was just. They demonize the slain. It will ratchet it to a new level.
SinAdjetivos@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 206d
Can you cite any specifics? Because either things are actively spicier than I was aware of or you misunderstood what was being said.
itistime@infosec.pub · 2 pts · 205d
I expressed that in frustration and anger. I have only seen one video of protests where there was something getting lobbed at officers from behind the protesters. There were claims that it was done by boot lickers, but I have no proof, and I can’t find the video now in the sea of content.
My frustration is that it is illogical to think they (MAGA in general) are not accustomed to doing false flags. I know that isn’t what you said. I protested in WA during BLM. There is a mountain of evidence of MAGA driving in and causing trouble in those events. I watched them peel down the streets in their trucks as we marched. I lived around them. I know what they spoke of. There are Boogaloos in jail for false flags shooting at cops during BLM: https://scholarlycommons.law.hofstra.edu/faculty_scholarship/1540/
I haven’t observed that same extent this time. I think many of those thugs are now ICE thugs. Also, the stakes are higher for false flaggers against ICE. They don’t want hurt either.
zib@lemmy.world · 11 pts · 206d
The legal side of it would probably be unfairly weighted in ICE's favor, but I suspect if they tried this in a place like Texas, by the time it got to court, those frozen water nazis would already be shot the hell up.

Which is why they're very carefully avoiding Texas, I suspect.

I expect that within a few months you'll find NICS checks returning "DENY" for anyone who has ties to terrorism. The evidence of terrorism will be membership in things ike the ACLU, being a registered Democrat, having a reading level of 8th-grade or higher, etc.

a Wendy'sMinnesota. There's no castle doctrine, but rather a duty to retreat.natecox@programming.dev · 28 pts · 206d
I could absolutely be wrong about this because I’ve never really looked it up, but I thought “duty to retreat” still allowed use of lethal force once there is nowhere left to retreat (for example, once in your own home).
Part of those pesky “inalienable rights”.
Sprocketfree@sh.itjust.works · 19 pts · 206d

Pavidus@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 206d
I understand, however in the article it states "The shift comes as the Trump administration dramatically expands immigration arrests nationwide..."
There's a reason this started in areas such as Minnesota. I fully believe this is just trial runs and laying the (il)legal framework to handle more difficult areas.
grue@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 206d
"Nationwide" is sanewashing. It's really expanding specifically to blue states (because its real purpose is punishing the regime's political enemies).
peopleproblems@lemmy.world · 10 pts · 206d
Incorrect. Minnesota has a castle doctrine for defending your home, a duty to retreat in public.
TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today · 10 pts · 206d
Duty to retreat does not apply when you are already in your own home. It's only when you are in public or outside of the protection of your own home.
ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de · 2 pts · 205d
Yeah, but there's usually like 6 ice goons in riot gear with a lot of firepower. You hopefully kill a couple before getting shot to death yourself, and Trump doesn't give a shit if a few of his goons die. Citizens need to take up arms and force ice out. Not hope a few get into shootouts at an occasional home here or there.
IchNichtenLichten@lemmy.wtf · 52 pts · 206d
If ICE agents were smart they would refuse to do this. Sooner or later someone is going to defend their home against these goons, using lethal force. The government is deliberately putting these morons in harm's way so they can use the death of an agent as political currency; people like Miller care so little about ICE agents that they wish to see them dead.
itistime@infosec.pub · 20 pts · 206d
MAGAmind have their hands clasped in excitement. They want the violence in the streets. We can’t win direct conflict with their goons. We must not give them what they want. We must circumvent their foot soldiers, and seek direct action against their masters. Make it clear to everyone: go after the money
mystik@lemmy.world · 12 pts · 206d

mr_sunburn@lemmy.ml · 14 pts · 206d
You could look at Renee Good and see that they need no pretext at all to shoot and kill without repercussions. "Don't feed the troll" isn't a great strategy when it's already gnawing on your leg.
mystik@lemmy.world · 3 pts · 205d
I realized a bit after posting that they'll do what they want anyway without repercussions, so yea, you're right.
Paranoidfactoid@lemmy.world · 2 pts · 206d
They're looking to instigate violence to justify martial law. Your 2nd Amendment solution only gives them more opportunity to oppress and kill civilians. If you fight the federal government you will lose. Discredit them, don't unalive them.
mr_sunburn@lemmy.ml · 3 pts · 205d
I'm not advocating for that, but as the prior poster said, "Sooner or later someone is going to defend their home against these goons, using lethal force" and they'll use that as pretext to increase the boldness and spread of their violence. At that point with a totalitarian state, what recourse to the law remains?

archonet@lemy.lol · 11 pts · 206d
Contrary to what many people may believe, while I'm sure the government has an idea of who has guns and who doesn't, I doubt that idea accurately reflects reality. There are lots of ways in the US to get or make a gun that don't involve anything beyond cash changing hands.
It's only a matter of time.
MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net · 13 pts · 205d
Just a reminder that "the government" now includes Palantir's dystopian surveillance suite. You can be sure that every target has a confidence rating assigned to it as to what kind of resistance can be expected. The small percentage of people that maintain a low enough profile to be able to be armed without having any sort of red flag attached are likely to be assigned a low confidence rating. Yes, there will always be a chance that there's a mismatch. But the goons on the ground are being sent after the lowest hanging fruit. They may be mouth breathing meatsacks, but the ones calling the shots are not.
dreadbeef@lemmy.dbzer0.com · -1 pts · 205d
I jate to break it to you, but do you think palantir has accurate data? It's ai. It hallucinates by design
They have your data in data warehouses. They can definitely know if you 100% have a gun based off of your posts with a picture of a gun and some registration data from a breach that leaked, but what if its like 80% confidence? Their confidence is based off massive human-involved assumptions.
They have the data and theyre trying to sell access to it. Their profit margins arent affected if they are wrong 70% of the time, they make bank when it works that 30% and thats what governments and corps spend millions on. They have no idea how accurate it really is, they are really just guessing off of probabilities. And your inconvenience for being probed and labelled incorrectly? Well that is a price the rich are willing to pay
